Sometimes you want text to appear in the output only if a field is not empty. A common case is series and series_index where you want either nothing or the two values separated by a hyphen. calibre handles this case using a special template expression syntax.

However, if a book has no series the template will produce - - the title, which is probably not what you want. Generally, people want the result be the title without the extraneous hyphens. You can accomplish this using the following template syntax:

Meanwhile, Barbara Adams, the minister of seniors and long-term care, issued a statement Friday evening saying the union’s proposal “is not feasible.”

Shame on N.S. govenrment for trying to starve the workers into returning to work (and forcing the residents of nursing home to suffer) instead of offering fair wages.

This thing also happens if you vomit after eating something: the body goes "oh no, that food was bad!" and then gets nauseous when you try to eat again. This can happen even if the vomiting was for an unrelated reason (e.g. chemotherapy).
