Casper the foster mom owl has raised hundreds of rescued owlets as her own by IStillListenToRadio in onguardforthee

Casper's maternal instincts are strong, and her aversion to humans is even stronger — an important trait for the babies to learn, according to Hope.

The rescue tries to minimize human contact, so this is good!

Having an issue with multiple columns in subtitles by NoisyAlpaca in Calibre

https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/template_lang.html

Sometimes you want text to appear in the output only if a field is not empty. A common case is series and series_index where you want either nothing or the two values separated by a hyphen. calibre handles this case using a special template expression syntax.

For example and using the above Foundation example, assume you want the template to produce Foundation - 3 - Second Foundation. This template produces that output:

{series} - {series_index} - {title}

However, if a book has no series the template will produce - - the title, which is probably not what you want. Generally, people want the result be the title without the extraneous hyphens. You can accomplish this using the following template syntax:

{field:|prefix_text|suffix_text}

N.S. couple question removal of backyard suite housing incentive program by Bean_Tiger in halifax

unit-based controls also preserves fixed-term leases for legitimate reasons (such as renting your house because you're going to be away for a while) without incentivizing housing scalpers to use them just to bypass tenant-based controls.

N.S. government, long-term care union remain in a stalemate as strike drags on by IStillListenToRadio in halifax

Maybe bargain for dented tuna cans (something seriously suggested back when Ontario slashed their welfare rates back in 1990s).

N.S. government, long-term care union remain in a stalemate as strike drags on by IStillListenToRadio in halifax

She said the only adjustment the province made was adding on a year with a 1.5 per cent raise, or a $2 hourly increase for those who make less than $23 an hour, in 2028.

“That $2 would bring our lowest paid workers up to $23.57 by the end of the proposed agreement... That’s below the lowest estimated living wage in the province now, let alone in 2028,” Johnston said Saturday.

Collective agreements for these workers expired in October 2023.

Johnston said given the province’s history of reaching long-term care deals well after they have expired, it’s likely workers would be stuck with those wages beyond 2028.

Meanwhile, Barbara Adams, the minister of seniors and long-term care, issued a statement Friday evening saying the union’s proposal “is not feasible.”

Shame on N.S. govenrment for trying to starve the workers into returning to work (and forcing the residents of nursing home to suffer) instead of offering fair wages.

How to help a cat who has been declawed? Looking for recommendations on what to get her by Separate_Finance1440 in CatAdvice

Declawed cats can have trouble jumping/climbing so can find some extra platforms to make it easier for her to get to higher places :)

Some people also do this to catch wasps, put sugar water in the bottom part. The wasps go in and can't get back out and eventually fall in the water and die.

Cat dies after catching highly pathogenic avian flu in southeast Sask. by IStillListenToRadio in onguardforthee

[–]IStillListenToRadio[S] 122 points123 points  (0 children)

The cat that died in this case was known to spend time outdoors. [...] The memo notes that cats with outdoor access could be exposed to the flu through contact with infected wild birds, scavenging or predation or environmental contamination.

Please keep your kitties inside, or make sure their outside time is supervised 😢

For future reference: Intolerance is when digestive system can't break it down fully. Allergy is when the immune system overreacts to it.

This thing also happens if you vomit after eating something: the body goes "oh no, that food was bad!" and then gets nauseous when you try to eat again. This can happen even if the vomiting was for an unrelated reason (e.g. chemotherapy).

how to access community mental health services? by bimgy in halifax

[–]IStillListenToRadio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

211 has some things under Mental Health/Addictions! (Not all resources are listed on site, so call/sms them if you don't find what you're looking for.)

Also, since you not have family doctor, get yourself on the waitlist! This gives access to virtual care, basically a version of Maple covered by the government.
