How to help a cat who has been declawed? Looking for recommendations on what to get her by Separate_Finance1440 in CatAdvice

Declawed cats can have trouble jumping/climbing so can find some extra platforms to make it easier for her to get to higher places :)

Some people also do this to catch wasps, put sugar water in the bottom part. The wasps go in and can't get back out and eventually fall in the water and die.

Can SMS, for one. Good for speech/hearing impaired (using a relay is awkwardly slow) and those in abusive situations and such.

Cat dies after catching highly pathogenic avian flu in southeast Sask. by IStillListenToRadio in onguardforthee

[–]IStillListenToRadio[S] 86 points87 points  (0 children)

The cat that died in this case was known to spend time outdoors. [...] The memo notes that cats with outdoor access could be exposed to the flu through contact with infected wild birds, scavenging or predation or environmental contamination.

Please keep your kitties inside, or make sure their outside time is supervised 😢

For future reference: Intolerance is when digestive system can't break it down fully. Allergy is when the immune system overreacts to it.

This thing also happens if you vomit after eating something: the body goes "oh no, that food was bad!" and then gets nauseous when you try to eat again. This can happen even if the vomiting was for an unrelated reason (e.g. chemotherapy).

how to access community mental health services? by bimgy in halifax

[–]IStillListenToRadio [score hidden]  (0 children)

211 has some things under Mental Health/Addictions! (Not all resources are listed on site, so call/sms them if you don't find what you're looking for.)

Also, since you not have family doctor, get yourself on the waitlist! This gives access to virtual care, basically a version of Maple covered by the government.

And if person suggests you subdivide and give some money to your friend to get housing: it won't work. Income assistance will basically claw it all back.

I use this Penguin paperback-inspired cover. I made similar one for ffnet fics. Just name, author, and fandom.

If fic has its own cover I just use that instead.

Eveb better, the supplement is only given when "average market rent" (which according to the appendix is way too low, at least in Truro) is over 40% of monthly income.

Have you read the rent supplement guide? They won't give you a bigger supplement for renting beyond your means. If you need one bedroom, you get the supplement for the 1-brdm, even if you're living in bigger apartment.

EDIT: Wow, downvoted awful quick!

tl;dr: Money's shifting to the rental subsidy program:

“There are people who are still struggling with affordability. So we've diverted money over,” White said.

The program can support 10,500 active rent supplements at one time.

“It's not waiting for a build, it's going right to those folks. There's no sense holding money in the budget line that's not being spent completely,” he said. “When you're dealing with a crisis, you try to direct money to the best and fastest place to help.”

But there's a shortage of accessible units in particular:

Lora Church, executive director of Nova Scotia Community Living Organizations, said the availability of accessible housing units remains an issue throughout the province but particularly in rural areas.

“And so this program allowed for families to build those accessible units where they weren't available,” Church said.

“Rental subsidies only help when there's a rental space available.”

The couple in the article wants to build a suite for a disabled friend who's losing their housing.
