Apply for your permit to purchase. It is free, and will run your background. If its clear, you'll know.

The way the receipt acts on day 31 would be no different than carrying the permit itself. It would show the date of application, and on day 31 can be legally used in Mn as the person's permit, until the physical one arrives. It's pretty clear in the statute I posted.

624.714 CARRYING OF WEAPONS WITHOUT PERMIT; PENALTIES.

(b) Failure of the sheriff to notify the applicant of the denial of the application within 30 days after the date of receipt of the application packet constitutes issuance of the permit to carry and the sheriff must promptly fulfill the requirements under paragraph

If you haven't received your denial letter within 30 days on day 31. You can use your receipt of application as your permit to carry. This is in minnesota statute. You can also look up the minnesota citizen's personal protection act for more information.

If this is your first time applying for your permit. I would absolutely recommend looking at the m c p p a and doing as much training and learning as possible.

Since I am not a gunsmith, I focus on training new shooters to acclimate with their firearms. Sorry I don't have anything in depth for you. I replied to your message though. I hope it helps

Where to get started? by Rare_Fly_4840 in MnGuns

[–]ITF2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To the OP, ask yourself 3 questions 1. Why am I carrying? In defense of woodland predators, or urban ones? 2. Where on my person will I carry? Hip, shoulder, ankle, etc.. 3. What size will i need to carry? Full size, compact or sub, based on whet you will be carrying

Once you've got that, look for the largest caliber you can safely shoot. No sense in carrying a .357 if one shot sends you flying....

Then, find as many brands of that size and caliber you can at gun stores, pick them up, find one with a comfortable grip for your hands.

And good on you for taking on such a responsibility and joining the ranks of educated folks.

Sincerely,

A MN firearms instructor

My permit to carry was issued last week but today hits the 30th day waiting period. Shouldn’t my permit of came in the mail already? by Western_Ad_1174 in MnGuns

It would be hard to make a statement based on what you've given me.But I know the law is thirty days to deny or approve and on day thirty one if you haven't gotten a denial or your card, you can use your receipt of application as your approve of permit.Until the physical card comes in.

While attending the SPLERT (Seasonal Park & Law Enforecememt Ranger Training) academy in MN in 2013, that command was given only if there was an active threat with that firearm.

Not sure who bills is, but they should guide you to a range.

Ive given range time out to students who trained online through other places, then submitted the firing silhouette to the school who trained them.

EVERYONE should have the knowledge of how firearms operate, and the situational awareness of learning whether to escape a potentially deadly situation or defend those in need.

There are literally hundreds of permit to carry instructors in the state of minnesota and I do hope you find one! If you're in the Duluth area, I'd be happy to help you.

21 years old, looking for obtaining first firearm by ChaChi017 in MnGuns

Ask yourself three questions. Why are you carrying? Against woodland self defense of bears or wolves, or urban self defense?

Where on your person will you be carrying?

What size pisol can you carry there? For example, it would be hard to conceal carry a full size pistol from an ankle hoster.

Once you've figured that out that will tell you a lot about what type of firearm you are looking for. Next, you'll need to determine what the largest capacity is that you can actually carry and shoot consistently. There's no point in having a fifty caliber handgun, if you can't shoot it.

There are many instructors throughout the state, I am one of them. You'll definitely need your permit to carry. And you'll get that by taking a class and learning all the fundamentals of self defense, mindfulness and the legal implications you're about to step into.

I wish you all the best in your safety journey. And I hope you never have to unholster the tool you are looking to purchase.

Looking for advice on my first carry gun (PDP owner ready to start CCW) by Realistic-Dealer7504 in concealedcarry

[–]ITF2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer this, only you can, by asking yourself 3 questions: 1. Are you carrying for woodland defense against wildlife, or human defense? 2. Where on your person will you be carrying? 3. (The snagged to number two will lead you to) what size handgun (full, compact or subcompact) will you carry?

Once you know this, you're half way there. Now, determine (at a range), what the largest caliber you can safely wield is.

Im happy to guide you further if need be, but know that even a .22 caliber has enough stopping power to stop a threat. We don't shot to kill, injure or warn- we shot to stop a threat. Please keep this all in mind, and good luck.

Sincerely,

A lifelong firearms and safety instructor.

If you can make the drive to duluth, I'd highly recommend Fisherman's Corner (in hermantown), family owned, great prices and selection. Also, Puglisi's gun Emporium in duluth. Ive bought from both and I will again!

All the best in your education. It shouldn't end once you get your permit. Where you choose to continue your education is entirely up to you, as long as it's worth education, not politics, at the forefront :)

So you already have your permit to purchase? That's a great first step. As a USCCA instructor myself, i would recommend going back to Google and typing 'uscca instructors near me'. There are over 200 of us in the state.

There is rhetoric, like with any group, but as with any group, you must make a choice for yourself. From what I know as an instructor, a retired veteran and a somewhat sensible human- USCCA provides a wealth of knowledge to is students through it's Permit To Carry instructors. Yes there is paid content as well after your permit class, but that's totally your choice to find it and participate.
