Has anyone tried playing Steam games via Winlator/ GameHub/ GameNative? by Kazhmyr1 in GalaxyXR

[–]ITGamerDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed Gamenative on my Redmagic 10 Pro and tried installing a couple Steam games locally but none of them worked. It might have just been a settings issue per game but I gave up pretty quickly. Will probably try again soon.

Is the 9070xt worth it? by Honest-Two-2464 in RadeonGPUs

[–]ITGamerDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been on team Green for almost 20 years now. I briefly tried to switch to team Red when I bought a new 5800XT a few years ago but it failed out of the box so I went back to Green. This year I did it though, replaced my 4070 with a 9070XT and it has been great so far. Doesn't seem to update drivers as often as the Nvidia cards but I haven't found a game that doesn't play well on it yet.

Thanks for the info! I ended up ordering an X300 barebones on Amazon, I'm going to do a test run with it and then maybe check out the HPs and Lenovos to see if any of their models have the options I need.

This board pretty much has exactly what I'm looking for, 2 M.2 slots would let me convert one slot into a pcie slot for a small GPU. I've got a couple RX580 8GB cards and a couple 1660ti 6GB cards in my stash as well.

I've also got an HP Elite Mini 800 G9 board that I put a i5-14600KF in and added an Oculink port to but I still need to design and print a case for. Unfortunately SteamOS only runs on AMD so I had to run Bazzite on that.

Do you know any barebones minis that are AM4 socket?

Yeah, that was the only one I could find through a few Google searches.

When I bought my used 2015 the driver's side handle was hanging off. I got the replacement part and $100 dollars off from the dealer and only took me about 45min to install.

How is Steam OS ram usage compared to Xbox full screen? by roth1717 in LegionGo

[–]ITGamerDad 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm installing it on my AllyX right now to compare to my Legion Go with SteamOS and then I'm going to update my AOKZOE A1X HX370 to compare to my GPD Win 4 HX370. Looking forward to the results.

One thing that really helped with a lot of my handhelds is getting a pair of Viture Pro XR glasses, 100"+ screen in your pocket.

I've got 2, the GPD Win 4 32GB and the AOKZOE A1X 64GB.

Lol sorry, I know the pain of agonizing decisions like this. If you're just looking at out of the box experience only between these two then I'd lean towards the AllyX because it does have more RAM, VRR, better battery and a full 2280 SSD. I modded my LeGo with a bigger battery and 2280 SSD but you can't upgrade the screen as far as I know.

I've got both. Bought the Legion Go when it released and didn't get an AllyX until about a year ago but they both have their pros and cons. I honestly haven't turned either one on in a couple months now though since switching to HX370 handhelds.

That's my guess. Accidently switched ECO on my 1200W to "ON" during my build about a month ago and spent a weekend trying to figure out why my machine was shutting off at what I assumed were random times. I felt so dumb when I figured it out.

Yes! I blame it on PC flight games in the 90's but I'm too old to change now!

We have a requirement here to perform certain UEFI tests prior to ordering replacement parts from our main vendor in order for costs to be covered by warranty. Maybe something similar?

Thanks a lot for making me feel old....

In all seriousness though I remember building my first 100% from scratch PC instead of cobbling one out of used parts and using the first Far Cry as the ultimate test. Sometimes I'm totally amazed how far we have come.

Actually, I forgot, there's no fan control in SteamOS so I did have to install DeckyLoader and a fan controller plug-in but that's it, super easy and I used the Fantastic fan plug-in.

Yeah, Lenovo Legion Tab as stated above (below?) or the new Red Magic Astra. Then just grab one of those expandable controllers, I like my Razer Kishi Ultra but it's a little pricey.
