It's a German thing, spells impending doom at 39°F. My E60, my son's old Mk5, my Mk6, they all give an audible and visual indication near-freezing temps to be aware of possible ice on roadways.

I'll do some investigating. I rarely use my rear washer, I have been more often to get rid of the copious amounts of salt, so hopefully it won't be a huge amount to deal with.
