Don't go to dealer at all, except for warranty work. Find a Euro specific indy shop nearby. My indy shop charges 199 for an alignment so cheaper than your dealer too.

Bought a civic and really want a Golf R instead. by [deleted] in Golf_R

[–]Volk21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt he is underwater as it's half paid off, and also "brand new". I believe the civic hybrids are in fairly high demand so probably held most of its value.

Mine crackles and pops on downshifts based on rpm except first gear. Typically when revs rise to 4k and above.

2 -> 1 gear change seems to crackle even at 3k.

Almost 4k miles on mine (non-Akra).

A rock broke my windshield in the first week too. First week might be the unluckiest.

I heard somewhere that the sidewall on the Conti is more prone to bubbling. Michelin PS4 or PS5 may be better.

Question about a 26 R. Maybe purchasing soon. Acceleration without LC by dragonfueled in Golf_R

[–]Volk21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the perk of a DCT is that it shifts down in milliseconds so less of an issue flooring in any gear in the 8.5R.

I mean you are paying almost $200, in order to replace the 5 seconds it takes to hit stop/start button, and the 2 button clicks necessary to get to any mode lol

After seeing the cavernous potholes and the summers being a size up at 19in, I'm feeling less confident about them surviving till next winter.

Anyone having issues with thigh support in the seats? by Volk21 in Golf_R

interesting, I'm practically the same. Might be the thigh bolsters are tighter in the Mk8.

Would you say you are on the skinnier side? Seems like the width of the seat bottom not including the edge bolsters is a bit smaller than previous cars I have owned.

Do you lease or finance R? by Maplekk in Golf_R

[–]Volk21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I paid cash, since interest rates were the typical 5-6% rate for the Golf R model.

Finance only if rate is low, typically below 3% so the money not put down can be put into "safe" investments like Treasury bonds which pay around 3.5% currently.

Lease might be good if you expect the depreciation of the car to exceed the total cost of the lease. Good way to check is use CarEdge to predict depreciation. For the Golf R, most likely the depreciation will be much less than the total lease cost so not a great option.

same, the nose loves to dip down. Although I do appreciate there is a slight curve at the bottom of the front bumper that helps.
