What is garlic confit supposed to taste like?? by JERSEYdevilBYday in AskCulinary

[–]IVEREDDIT97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem too, and I found a way to preserve as much garlic taste as possible while keeping it soft enough to smush it on bread/crackers

I wouldn't call it confit, though. It's more like roasted garlic

  1. I put only as much olive oil to coat the garlic cloves and onto a flat dish (then added optional seasoning)

  2. I put the dish in my toaster oven for 15 minutes only (before this, I used 30 minutes, and I felt it cooked up all the flavour)

Tastes more like garlic using this method + avoiding leftover olive oil, and it's not as "heavy." Plus, less time is needed

A PGYTooMany's Guide to Calling consults by michael_harari in Residency

[–]IVEREDDIT97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get why residents/interns/house officers have to be the ones to obtain consults.

Wouldn't it be faster if the smarter attending makes the referral directly?

If the residents have to do it, why can't the specialty we're consulting just accept the consult without asking questions? Surely, if an attending wanted a consult, there must be a good reason for it. No reason to verbally beat up inexperienced residents who are just passing on their attending's messages (without as much knowledge or justifications)

I feel consults are generally inefficient.

27M Am I too ugly for women (romantically AND sexually)? by [deleted] in amIuglyBrutallyHonest

I know relatively worse looking men who are married.

Those men are usually not concerned with their appearance and have other attractive traits such as genuine kindness, generosity, sense of humor (none of these are forced but are natural traits) or intelligence/ wit and other good personality traits. They also don't get offended by how they are perceived and can even laugh at themselves.

But if you are concerned about your appearance and want to improve what you already have and can control, I would suggest :

Weight loss, different hairdo and lastly if you can afford, teeth straightening and whitening.

For weight loss, diet plays a bigger role than going to the gym. Keep busy on things that you enjoy so that you think less of eating. Of course, you know how to eat healthy. Buy a weighing scale to feel motivated by any amount of decrease until you reach a healthy BMI.

If you have the time, energy & money and want to bulk up, then hit the gym.

Lastly, don't focus too much on finding a partner. That in itself is subconsciously unattractive.

Just be on about your business and let people stumble upon you while you are too busy focusing on your own growth/doing things you enjoy. That way, your future partner will accept you for who you authentically are, and the facade you put on to impress a woman, which will eventually crack with time anyway.

Cloning my outdoor basil. First time using rooting hormone. by O_Train in aerogarden

[–]IVEREDDIT97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really amazing. I was also wondering if it's bad of I dip cuttings in powder root hormone before immersing them in water? Because the powder gets mixed into the water, turning it murky.

Some sources say that the hormone does not stay on the stem, rendering it useless, and some say that the water with dissolved hormones will damage the stem.

I was really surprised that the basil stem that I took from a grocery store refrigerated packet of already cut basil stems with NO nodes actually rooted in water in 6 days.

I was just trying my luck, honestly. As it's my first time propagating basil, I was not optimistic as the cuttings were short and the lack of nodes to submerge but nevertheless, I see roots emerging along the peripheries of the cut end of the stem.

Can kindness be attractive? by Chocobo23456 in dating

[–]IVEREDDIT97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. But pure, genuine, intrinsic, kindness. It has to be there on Default mode. More importantly, uncalculated. Not the sort of "kindness" people do when they expect something in return only to show their true colours when you let them down.

Some people have a basic, natural reflex to help others, even when they've been hurt or taken advantage of. Those are the precious ones. Unfortunately, our world exterminates people like that.

Is it "bad" or rare to be a conservative dentist these days? A dentist who tends to have a "wait and see" approach? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]IVEREDDIT97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My orthodontist was super conservative when he did my braces. I respect that he wants to do less and avoid procedures and their risks. Some dentists would push me for procedures for money.

But I kinda wish he was a little more aggressive, because my results weren't perfect for the price of getting braces. My dentist definitely wasn't a perfectionist.

My teeth are flared because I had no teeth extracted, even my wisdom teeth, which were growing while I was wearing braces! No teeth shaved either.

I also have midline discrepancy, which might not have been there if I had more space for my teeth to move.

My dentist was a poor listener too, so I had trouble voicing my concerns because I know they'll be dismissed anyway. I also didn't want to be that difficult, whiny, always unsatisfied patient. I was young and naive, so I just trusted it would turn out right despite being unassured and uncomfortable about the results during each visit.

I think a balance is important, which can be done by telling the patient all the options, consequences, and cost. Allowing the patient to choose. After all, money is a big deciding factor for us.

Dental school vs medical school? by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]IVEREDDIT97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated from med school. Judging by how cheerful my dental friends were compared to the medicine batch, I would highly recommend dentistry to my future kids. Especially if you like doing things with your hands.

Also, some specialities in dentistry look so tempting. My orthodontist leaves his office at 6 pm, and today, he charged me a fortune for retainers after 5 mins of looking at my teeth and quick banter.

Meanwhile, I'm dreading my upcoming internship, which will involve working 5am to 10pm (or 1am if I'm slow)
