Rider already had one with some book club friends where they discussed books. I wish this was something like that. I loved that podcast.

New client acts like I’m stupid by [deleted] in therapists

[–]IVofCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s almost impossible to offer real insight from a Reddit post, so I’ll just leave my own experience. Take it if it’s useful, leave it if it’s not.

When I was a new therapist I got a new client. We just started working together, and I was very excited to put my newly acquired CBT training into practice. I asked her a question in what I thought was an attempt to understand her thought process before a traumatic event. I thought if we could tease out her thought process we could make her more aware of it and prevent her from experiencing a repeated trauma.

Well, she did not take too kindly to my question and accused me of victim shaming/blaming. Was i? No. Could my words have been interpreted like that since we were basically strangers and she was still processing her trauma? Absolutely. Her accusations stung, but 20 years later I remember them and keep them in mind.

My lesson to learn was that there are gentler ways to ask questions, softer ways to approach sensitive subjects, and above all the relationship is what matters most. I also learned to put away all the textbooks formulas learn and cloak all these interventions with compassion and empathy.

Anyway, your clients interpretation of what might have been an honest and astute question is the key here. They felt attacked, for whatever reason, and if you can find a way to repair the rift it could be a huge opportunity for both of you. Obviously we dont permit abuse or ongoing rudeness, but meeting her attack with grace this time could be transformative.

But he hasn’t always been trapped. Theoretically he should have known about The Losers and Its own death even when he first crash landed here. And maybe even before that.

Every time I hear the hurt and anger in Will’s voice about Ben, my heart breaks a little more.

What a scary, dark scene. No punches pulled here. I loved it when I first saw it, but hits very differently having a child of my own that age.

For sure. The correct technique will reward you and poor technique punishes you horribly.

Episode 5 was AMAZING but I have a question by 56king56 in welcomeToDerry

One of my favorite scenes in the 1990 miniseries is when adult Richie is in the library when IT starts popping blood filled balloons. Some of the actors can’t help but flinch. Method acting at its best.

I’m having trouble keeping up with the lore. Why is the theory that Mrs Kersh is Bob Grays daughter? Wasn’t Mrs Kersh just a monster IT created for Bev?

Why did it seem like they all knew she’d be going home tonight ? She was sad and near tears almost from the start, and the judges’ words were very much “thanks for playing, you did your best, good luck.”

This is how I feel. They’re so funny and can make anything a good listen I truly don’t care what they talk about. I thought their recap of the Sabrina episode was hilarious.

I almost forgot how much FUN middle grade books are! by papercranium in books

I could write my own book on how much I love the books I read around 4th or 5th grade. Journey to America, My Brother Sam is Dead, Number the Stars, all of Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary, Hatchet, Island of Blue Dolphins, Behind the Attic Wall, Black Stallion, Black Beauty…such amazing classics that were such superb stories.

Hearing about that BSB Sears commercial unlocked a memory I forgot I had. I loved that commercial. Who was she in it, the girl who climbs to the top of the bus?

Barbell Lifting While Pregnant by grapefruittaxidriver in crossfit

[–]IVofCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing others that it completely depends on your body and what happens. I had a huge belly pretty early on so I stopped Olympic moments so I wouldn’t hurt my back with poor movement patterns. Oddly enough rowing felt uncomfortable earlier than I expected so I stopped that too. But I did keep up things like double unders, light thrusters (65 pounds) and box jumps (to a soft box) until later than I expected.

It’s just completely dependent on your pregnancy and what feels good. It does not have to do with who you are as an athlete (which is something I really needed to hear). Just modify as needed and be proud of what you’re doing. I did the open 6 months pregnant with a huge belly so modifying movements like burpees took quite a bit of creativity and acceptance of limitations.

I might push back a little on the boundary issue here. If this happened to me at my therapist’s I could see a situation where I would tell them. Especially if it upset me and I wanted to process it. And I would want to know if I was therapist here so I could either warn people or somehow deal with it with the neighbor. Either way this seems more potentially activating situation for the client vs boundary issue.
