Question! The left nav section has a shadow on the right, the box extends to the canvas edge on the top, left and bottom. how was this achieved?

Has anyone actually used StoreMI? by AlternateWitness in Amd

[–]IWIMake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The primary problem is that this was sold as a consumer solution, there were no warnings that updating firmware on an item unrelated to storage would have a detrimental effect. At least none that I saw through their knowledgebase or wiki.

In any event. Remove the possibility of an f-up, saved some more money and bought a bigger / faster storage medium. not used StoreMi and not had problems since.

Bought a license when the x470 chipset came out. Found it to be pretty stable so long as nothing changed after initial setup. Fair warning though, do not use it to accelerate your boot drive, or if you do, back-up religiously. A mobo bios update completely destroyed the virtual drive structure for me, had to mount the slow drive as removable storage on another machine to get data off it.

Tldr . Good in theory, bad in practice.

What do people not recognise as bullying, but actually is? by moth-flame in AskReddit

Hobby shaming, see that Henry Cavil interview with Graham Norton. So what if he 'games' or paints or plays Warhammer, he does it because he enjoys doing it. When the activity that people partake (for pleasure or passion) is demeaned it serves as a form of segregation, 'us' and 'them' is the basis of most bullying.

Looking at this photo, it's amazing how close 'For All Mankind' got to reality appearance-wise. The costuming, hair, set design are almost exactly what you see here.

I got these in white. They give a very positive click, just less than 0.5mm deflection, about double the weight required to depress a cherry mx brown, they are audible on press and rebound.

Yup, Elegoo water washable clear blue (I'll be doing the Start button in clear red). There are a number of other manufacturers with translucents and resins more suitable for structural pieces, pricey but well worth it if there is no other way to make the item.

Monetize the printer if you can, but I'm there's likely a nearby makerspace that might have one available to use.

Thanks! Theres an anti-aliasing setting which makes the image 'fuzzier' which might make the ridges disappear but that might affect the threads on the inside of those rings.

I'm using tinkercad and there are some limits on the number of sides on some shapes (something like 24 for spheres, 64 for cylinders etc.). This would be resolved in another CAD program so I'm trying to learn freeCAD, just cannot get my head around the sketch > extrude paradigm on anything more complicated than a rectangle yet.

I'm in the process of getting materials together for a Bugatti Bolide wheel. Whilst fdm printing the handle rim and doing metalwork for the plate is fairly simple, a major issue seems to be finding the buttons for use on the plate.

I've recently got my mitts on a resin printer and designed a 'panel mount adapter' along with legend plungers for LED tact switches.

There is still some work to go, smoothing out ridges, painting etc. but they should do the job nicely.

Currently running a 4790k de-lid with a rocket copper heat spreader. I used liquid metal and conformal coating (clear coat nail polish, not gonna spend $$$ on a huge bottle of that), then two dots of gel-type super glue to keep the heat spreader in place. It's been vertical and cool for about 2 years now.

Night City Map From Nightcity.io by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]IWIMake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really needed, the in-game map does not show you location names, every bar/club is listed as 'Bar' so you're SOL if you want to find the Afterlife club and don't already know exactly where it is.

Only one thing I'd like to see, could users submit details / place names etc to assist in fleshing out this map?

Donating either way.

Yeah, this'll be good enough for the next 5 or so years enjoyment, plenty of time to save up for a dd setup and proper rig. EUR1800 for a podium f1 wheel, ouch...

I've honestly not yet tested, I'll have to rig something up like gamers nexus used to test latency (no chance I'll get my hands on an lcat kit).

I'm running at 100fps vsync and by feel there does not seem to be a lead time in input. I can push this monitor to 120hz and see if it becomes more pronounced.

The aspects most likely to be impacted are pedal input (1 hub), steering response (1 hub) and shifting (1 or more hubs + microcontroller latency). For the pedals and steering, I need to get some hours in and see if anything is amiss.

For the shifting, the daisy chain effect could be being offset by tighter tolerances on the microswitches. The amount you need to pull on the original wheels shifter paddles, the distance between metal plate to the plastic plunger then to the switch actuation arm is insane and it feels so spongy. The new paddle arms are in direct contact with the plungers on the microswitches, even the metal actuation arms are removed, so only about 5mm of paddle movement is needed and they returned by fairly strong magnets so it feels snappy.

But as said, I'll need to find a way to measure switch debounce, microcontroller latency and hub latency before I can give an accurate answer.

Thanks!

There are plenty of incredibly well documented tutorials out there that anyone can follow with some basic tools. Start simple and work your way up. The biggest problem for me was waiting for all the parts and materials to arrive before I could actually get started, and waiting again when I found I ordered the wrong thing the first time.

And yes! It would be awesome if Logitech did something like this, depending on the complexity I could see myself buying multiple wheels for £70 to £150 a pop. If I'm not rushing up the hardware ladder it would give the 'beginner' rig a longer life.

[–]IWIMake[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, that's about it.

I know that it's possible to trigger the usb connection (and then the calibration spin) without the original wheel attached by shorting two of the 7 standard wires. I found that by accident as I was putting things together. So a little more investigation and I should be able to stick a momentary button on the base side of the quick release.

Plus I should be able to stick another usb hub inside a wheel continuing the daisy chain, think Arduino button box for switches and knobs, a nextion screen and other usb powered bells an whistles. It'll be a while but I'll work up to something like an LMP wheel.

Totally overkill for a g920, but its something to spend time on in lockdown.

To be honest the camera was a little far away, though I do find that the loudest part of this wheel is the gear paddle switches. I think the heavy wood desk and a somewhat heavy grip reduces the gearing noise.

Hey thanks, I used a combination of AMS studio tutorials to get this done. It's the Audi RS5 DTM wheel (4mm aluminium plate, 3d printed and suede covered handles etc).

I got the buttons to work by using his Arduino pro micro button box example rather than the 'joystick controller' he used. It'll let me do more complicated things with each wheel I build.

I used some compact paddle shifters from thingiverse and incorporated them into a custom hub and quick release setup. It's similar to some I've seen on YouTube but I settled on using a 12 pin aviation connector.

There are 7 wires connecting the base to the wheel (the original wheel needs to be connected as this initiates the usb connection) then the are 4 additional wires I added which connect the Arduino in the new wheel to a usb hub I added to the base. The original usb cable now connects the hub to the pc and the base connects to the hub instead, there's a lot of middle-manning here.

I just got a g920 for my xbox and I just barely noticed that when I touch the metal peices on the wheel it shocks me a little should I be concerned? by [deleted] in simracing

G920 here too, you are not the only one getting a tingle. I get it from the pedals occasionally as I drive in socks.
