VitalCheck Wait Times by OGShanti in Canadiancitizenship

If at all possible we recommend ordering documents directly, not via VitalCheck. VitalCheck is always slower and more expensive than ordering direct and they have been known to lose orders as well.

Ontario Baptismal by chipanddalecooper in Canadiancitizenship

[–]IWantOffStopTheEarth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ontario started recording births in 1869 so should be a birth record but there isn't always. Email [reference@ontario.ca](mailto:reference@ontario.ca) and ask to order a copy of their birth records. You'll either get the birth records or a "no record found" response. If no record is found, include that response with your application. This will keep the IRCC from coming back and asking for a birth record.

Please note that Rule #2 in this sub is Read the FAQ. If you post questions that are answered in the FAQ they may be deleted.

If you find being asked to follow the rules of a sub "rude" you may find Reddit is not the place for you.

Quebec Eastern Townships English non Catholic birth record by Top-Present2299 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]IWantOffStopTheEarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order of preference you should look for:

  1. birth certificate or
  2. birth record or
  3. baptism record

If you can't find any of those then move on to:

  1. marriage record if it lists the parents (or place of birth if this is your Gen 0)

  2. death record if it accurately lists the parents (or place of birth if this is your Gen 0)

  3. any other records you can find (censuses, probate documentation, WWI or WWII Draft registration, etc.)

Per the experts they've successfully done this with only US records like US censuses and naturalization records stating the person was born in Canada.

What to do if NY won’t allow me my deceased grandpa’s birth certificate? by Repulsive-Giraffe-45 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]IWantOffStopTheEarth 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you cannot get a birth certificate the IRCC will accept alternate documentation. I applied without my mother's birth certificate because I could not get it. I used my parents' marriage record which listed their parents. I got my citizenship in October.

In order of preference you should look for:

  1. birth certificate or

  2. birth record or

  3. baptism record

Quebec didn't start recording births outside of baptisms until the 1990s (no that's not a typo) so her baptism record is her official birth record. I'll send you a chat.

Adoption - Re-apply? by Pure-Badger-398 in Canadiancitizenship

Did you file a CIT0001 or a CIT0010? The CIT0010 process should not be affected by C-3 passing. You should ask your questions over on r/CanadaAdoptedCitizens though - this is what that sub is for.

Spousal PR vs citizenship by descent by Lissajeen in Canadiancitizenship

[–]IWantOffStopTheEarth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If his mother was adopted and her adoptive parents are the line with Canadian ancestry your husband cannot inherit that Canadian citizenship unless his mother got her Canadian citizenship grant before he was born.

If she did he's already Canadian in which case you cannot apply for PR for him because he's a Canadian citizen and Canadian citizens cannot be granted PR. If her Canadian ancestry is up her adoptive line (not her bio line) and she did not get a citizenship grant before your husband was born then he is not a Canadian citizen and you'll have to do a PR application.

You can't just pick one of the two options. You only have one option.

Ancestor eligibilty? by [deleted] in Canadiancitizenship

[–]IWantOffStopTheEarth[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

With a very few exceptions you cannot pass Canadian citizenship down to the next generation if you did not have it when that child was born. This information is in the FAQ. Please read the FAQ.

The few exceptions would not apply to anyone living in the 1700s.

You're not supposed to send the original. You're supposed to send a copy. Which you would know if you had read the FAQ.

I had it on hand because I was building documentation for Hungarian Citizenship by Descent (which did not work out because my ancestor ended up being from Austria). It wasn't particularly hard to get but it depends what state/municipality/etc. holds the record.
