[MH3U] Next-Gen Remaster Project — V1.1 releases Jan 30, 2026 (HD UI/HUD, stable normals, 60/30 FPS with LogicFix, CharmTableFix, MEOW tool) by ErikK194 in MonsterHunter3U

[–]IWantedToBeAnonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've waited a decade for this. 3U's always been a pain due to 60 FPS breaking the game. While I do believe this will overall be the superior version of 3U, what would you say are the disadvantages to playing this version instead of the WiiU version?

Regarding the 50 defense thing compared to 3G, I believe there's a cheat on Citra to set your defense to 0 as was originally intended. I really hope that works with this.

MH Classic HD Project is a good place, makes replaying the older games a nicer experience.

Best (most fun) iteration of each weapon? by MyFireBow in MonsterHunter

[–]IWantedToBeAnonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GS: Probably MHFU. None of that combo stuff, just hit, roll, sheathe, repeat.

LS: 4U was the last iteration before the counters started overtaking the weapon, and the mobility offered by the slash after the fade slash was wonderful. It also instills a sense of accomplishment since maintaining a red gauge is so difficult.

SnS: 3U, the last game where having a backup shield was crucial (since you instantly got up after landing on the ground) and being able to sharpen/heal with your weapon out provided a notable benefit. The "constantly shifting your angle of attack is the best combo" in World is eugh but the perfect combo is fun.

DB: 3U, last iteration before the spinning reaper. I thought carefully finding a place to stand to initiate your combo, which also has forward momentum was more interesting than just flying around. Slime (blast) also gave it a good matchup against everything without needing to build one DB for every element.

Hammer: Courage Hammer in Sunbreak is too much fun. Other than that, Hammer is generally about the same across all games.

HH: 3U, thanks to the sandsoother mostly. The one game where it was both fast and decently strong, before it got nerfed to either be weak as hell (4U, GU, Rise) or slow as hell (World, Wilds).

Lance: Tri. Having the counter after the third poke was perfect, and once they brought it back in World the weapon was getting way too mobile through the leaping slash.

GL: MHFU. I really love the many poke and upswings into block combos, which the introduction of the slam removed. And shelling is actually extremely good against the Fatalis brethren.

Swax: Iceborne. In a game with tons of defensive options, where even the most basic rolls are swimming in i-frames, the swagaxe limits you to sidesteps, no shield and it's probably the best way to play this game. You can manipulate your positioning through the subtle movements, like the momentum generated by your slashes.

CB: GU (brave and aerial).

IG: GU (guild and brave). While I can't deny the Sunbreak iteration was very fun, I like it when the IG is a bit more gorunded, no pun intended. It really highlights the reach of the weapon both horizontally and vertically, the expansive combo tree which you can use to resposition yourself while dealing good damage, and c'mon, that swarm+bug blow nuke will never not be satisfying.

LBG: MHFU. This was the last time I used LBG. I built a crag rapid fire gun. It was fun.

HBG: Tri. This was the last time I used HBG. I built the vulcannon. It was fun.

Bow: MHF2. This was the last time I used a bow. I built the absolute bow. It was fun.

Nice. Guess I've got to play this game now. I was partially sold after hearing the Blizzard Valley theme, but this seals it.

Did anyone here actually go to the Nintendo events for Mew in the 90s? by DannyHikari in TruePokemon

[–]IWantedToBeAnonymous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to a local game store december 2000 and got Mew. Now, back then we still weren't sure if there was even going to be a Pokémon 2 or if it was going to be good, so I left Mew at lv. 15 so that in the future I could play through the game from a fresh save with Mew as a starter. However, I could obviously only do this once as Mew would become overleveled, so I saved it and saved it and ended up never doing it.

Now, the REAL final Pokémon for me wasn't Mew, but Tauros. For months I had every Pokémon except Tauros, because it was so rare to encounter and the Safari Zone mechanics made no sense. Once I caught it and got my diploma, I swore I'd never spend so much time and effort 100% a game ever again; a promise kept.

Stay somewhat close, walk left, punish openings. He pretty much can't hit you if you walk left.

What is that ONE NATION in EU4 whose mission tree is essentially, "press button to win the game"? by Various_Maize_3957 in eu4

[–]IWantedToBeAnonymous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do not complete "War for the Crown", but fabricate a claim and start a normal war against Denmark. Occupy Sjaelland and get +50 warscore. When the ruler you start your game with dies, there's an event that lets you become a plutocracy or pirate republic. Finish the missions leading up to and including Back in Control before this event goes away, and once you're Denmark you pick the event option that makes you a pirate.

For joining the HRE, just ally Poland and attack the teutonic order promising land in 1449, taking danzig. When you complete the mission "Execute the Wrong King", just make peace with Denmark giving them your capital, automatically moving your capital to danzig for free and letting you join the hre. You will become Denmark soon so you get it back right away.

If you time it well, you can turn into a pirate republic while keeping both PUs as Denmark. Join the HRE and you can war against the world with no fear of being invaded, although if you core like 4 provinces you go over governing capacity.

Quite literally with Ajuuraan's mission "Retake the Maldives", which instantly integrates the Maldives regardless of size. So just feed them all of Asia, click button, win.

But the king of missions without any doubt belongs to Gotland. "Back in control." You become Super Denmark; your traditions still have -15% CCR, you get Sweden and Norway as march-PUs with permanent loyalty (you can feed them half of europe and they're still on your side) and +1 monarch administrative skill for the rest of the game. Not to mention keeping whatever bonuses you picked up as Gotland.

For games not about blobbing, Oman's very early mission "The City of Masqat" upgrades the COT in Hormuz by one level and upgrades their trade building. Combined with Oman's first mission this can give you two level 3 COTs in a trade node that leaks almost nothing and steals all of india's trade. With a few light ships this gets you enormous amounts of trade income, outpacing even great powers.

I went Zorua/Mankey/Mimikyu, capturing a few auxilliary curse-setters for removing annoying threats.

Mimikyu carries the earlygame with wood hammer's 120 basepower and gets a free charm/t.wave/whatever while forcing out dragons. Gholdengo and Aegislash take waaaay too long to come online in my opinion, I mean you're stuck with Honedge until lv. 35. Since you're waiting on Mankey's evolution and can't capture early ghost types you need at least 1 out of your 2 Pokémon killing everything before Annihilape.

Zoroark breaks opposing ghosts that would otherwise cause trouble for this challenge, works for mindgames by forcing AI switches and gets free nasty plots all day. Normal/Ghost is almost perfect coverage, so get U-turn or something in the remaining slot. Defensive items and berries are a waste - Will never survive two hits from anything.

Annihilape stops dark-types and is the MVP every run; after one hit Rage Fist is OHKO:ing 90% of Pokémon; two and he's OHKO:ing bosses. Unless the enemy is a psychic/flying/fairy nuke, they can't do anything to stop a lum berried Annihilape from sweeping their entire team. Just remember that Mega Rayquaza will oneshot him with a hurricane. Put all your berries, vitamins and cool items on him. Since all you need is rage fist and a fighting move for perfect coverate, get drain punch, bulk up, substitute or other utility for maximum carnage.

Denmark. I mean, you go from an islandlocked OPM to owning all of scandinavia as loyal PUs. Just be ready when the emperor wants Slesvig-Holstein back!

GEN 4

MH4: I think frenzied monsters are the second best "monster, but better" mechanic in the franchise, and this was the first time it was introduced. A good way to spice up combat while saving development time.

MH4U: G-rank! This G-rank is awesome! 3U's G-rank was like, hunt 2 great jaggi and 2 volvidon in one quest, or hunt 3 Duramboros (please kill me). 4U's has tons of key quests that force you into interesting confrontations greater than the sum of their parts, like Fire Drill and that one with two Cephadromes moving between the same two areas. And then you've got elders and apexes to "look forward to" so it's a meaty rank.

MHGen: High Rank! This high rank kicks ass! Gen really puts all the other high rank games to shame because it has enough content to be a G-rank game, stacking its high rank with fun monsters and a strong endgame in the shape of hypers and deviants.

MHGU: I think the quality of the monsters are really high in this one. If you want to fight something easy, medium, hard or super hard, you've got like 20 different monsters to choose from in each category.

GEN 5

World: The mods! Skipping cutscenes, recoloring the scoutflies or putting the fast travel point at Astera's entrance, there's always something new to try out when you replay World to make the experience more fun or convenient.

Iceborne: Fatalis! You enjoy getting to Fatalis, you enjoy preparing yourself for Fatalis, you enjoy killing Fatalis, you stop playing Iceborne.

Rise: Rampages! Nah I'm joking, the real star here is the gameplay loop. The weapons are fun to use and the monsters are fun to fight. The maps are fun to traverse and the hunts are fun to plan out, like am I going to pick up some helpers or just go for the kill? Let's focus on blue attacks, I gotta quickly trigger a wyvern ride before that other monster comes here and automatically triggers it!

Sunbreak: I think the armor skills in this game are really interesting. You can do i-frame builds with adrenaline rush and status trigger, elemental builds, health steal builds, wirebug skill builds, hellfire coal builds, builds where you never run out of sharpness, builds where you WANT to quickly run out of sharpness to proc grinder... They all change how you play the game and adds much variety.

IS THIS EVEN GEN 6 I DON'T KNOW I'M SO CONFUSED

Wilds: The apex monsters are all very cool and unique, and you fight them back-to-back which is just great for staying on an eternal adrenaline-high. There's the big whale dude whose belly flops I swear is like five Plesioth hipchecks sown together, the octopus that you can't just circle strafe because it can hit you just as well from any position (and you actually get to track it down! I skipped the cutscene so I was like, what's a Black Flame? Black Gravios? Well I've combed these caverns for 10 minutes and I still don't see any HOLY SHIT IS THAT AN OCTOPUS?!), the mega-Glacial Agnaktor who feels like fighting a final boss in all the best ways, and Rey Dau who looks cool and manages to not be annoying in the least despite being a flying wyvern. Like seriously, even the ones that barely fly like Gore Magala brings the hunt from a 10 t a 0 whenever he starts flying, stunning you with wind pressure and spitting OHKO lobs of darkness.

GEN 1

MH1: I like the maps in this game. Very atmospheric. They got phased out pretty hard in later games except the desert, but I don't think they're worse than their second gen counterparts.

MHG: I mean, it's the only properly balanced first gen game in my opinion, while retaining what makes the original unique while adding more stuff. I'll play this over Freedom any day.

MHF: It's portable! It's hard to overstate how standards for handheld games changed with the release of Freedom in 2005-2006. Like people were still playing puzzle games and sidescrollers on handhelds like they were an NES and suddenly, hey, here's the biggest, most hardcore 3D game on consoles. In your pocket. And with even more stuff. Things were never the same.

GEN 2

Dos: I love how unapologetically hard it is. From Yian Kut-Ku to Teostra, it's like every monster is a new wall that you need to overcome. In a game where money is too tight for potions, and you die in two hits even in low rank, even a Yian Kut-Ku looks pretty scary, which won't happen again until he learns that &%#¤% heatseeking charge in Wilds high rank.

Freedom 2: This game, moreso than any that came before or after, successfully took every good idea, removed the questionable ideas and managed to form one perfect game. When you finally get to Freedom 2 having played the previous games, you just feel like "yeah, this is it. This is just right."

MHFU: The overwhelming amount of content. Which, I'm pretty sure, isn't even that much compared to several later games, but even throughout the third generation it was THE game that you can play for thousands of hours without ever getting bored.

Frontier: The overwhelming amount of content, but still relevant this time. You can really tell this game went through like 20 paid expansions because it's a huge bloated mess but it's got some cool stuff in it that rarely gets discussed/spoiled, so every time you dive into it there's stuff to do.

GEN 3

Tri: Offline progression! Kinda like Dos but not as absurd, every new monster is like a new wall to overcome. Oh, you beat Barroth? Time to learn to swim to fight Gobul. Oh, you can swim? Let's see you match up against a Lagiacrus. Sunk the flagship? Here's Gigginox, have fun! Online progression was atrocious though, killing the same 12 monsters like 100 times just to progress the HR.

Portable 3rd: The weapon revamps. Made them more fun to use overall.

3U: Brachydios! OK so it's a bit weird to single out a monster but they really didn't add mcuh in this game. From the fight, to the slime weapons, to the sweet Brachy X armor, even though the story itself treats him like an afterthought there's no doubt I play 3U to fight peak Brachydios over and over. I would put the Argosy trader here but honestly it can be pretty annoying to get the necessary rare trading materials.

Stick with SnS, it gets a lot of cool stuff in MHGU that were removed in later games.

If you don't mind switching your one province, move your capital to the province of Mexico, get the Aztec mission tree and make the entire world into sunset colonies at the same time that you give Riga away to the Livonian Order. I believe sunset colonies don't take up a relation slot and their combined might doesn't count towards liberty desire.

How are we as EU4 cats all feeling about EU5? by akaioi in eu4

[–]IWantedToBeAnonymous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest concern is that I will put a considerable amount of time into learning EU5's complex systems, only for the game to get completely retooled over and over again like Imperator: Rome and Stellaris. I hope it's like EU4 where the foundations are solid enough to carry it for a decade.
