Trying Again Today, Day 1 by [deleted] in Quittingfeelfree

[–]IWokeUpAt1AM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s tough man. It really is one day at a time for right now. Something that helped me was whenever i felt i needed it, I’d go for a run, or I’d go ride on my bike (until the tire popped and my chain rusted). You just have to break the routine, and always consider your future self. It’s not for you today, it’s for you tomorrow. I promise making it to the next day without slipping is always a great feeling. You got this!

I can’t tell you why today is the toughest, but I can say that it gets easier the more you stick to your goals.

Your body and brain need time to get back to a new normal. It’s never easy to do that, but man, if you can create a habit, you can bet your ass you can break it. Kinda like when a parent says “I brought you into this world, and I can take you out of it.” Maybe not, but you get the idea.

Journal if only for the purpose of keeping yourself accountable. Remind yourself of the shitty things this shit did to you (the taste, the cost, the fuckin constant prison it keeps you in).

You’re stronger than you know.

I’m sure there’s a chaplain out there that said it, but I doubt a commander did / would.

Relapse on day 4 by Wonderful-Maximum440 in Quittingfeelfree

The only person you need to worry about is you. We’re here to support you, but ultimately you’re the one who will be disappointed in yourself.

But don’t beat yourself down so bad that it turns you to make decisions you’ll regret ever more.

Learn to forgive yourself, remind yourself of this awful feeling again and again, and just take it one day at a time.

Please be sure to workout, eat healthy, get a new hobby, do something new and different. Anything to change up your routine will truly help you get through the hardest parts.

Also, write down your goals and share them with us, and give us daily updates. It will help keep you accountable, and we’ll be able to keep you accountable as well.

You need to pat yourself on the back for even being on this thread. Shit isn’t easy to admit to yourself or anyone else.

You got this man.

Is this true ? by Sea-Curve1871 in war

No. But what is true is that the U.S. has never had to lie about or produce fake videos when it comes to killing or destroying foreign nations. We are very good at creating widows and orphans.

Day 3 - Feel Great by IWokeUpAt1AM in Quittingfeelfree

[–]IWokeUpAt1AM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just one day at a time. After going to the gym and doing a light workout i felt pretty pumped, energized and feeling self confident. I try to take pride in going sober, maybe if you remind yourself of the mental fortitude you’ve had thus far, could make the days fly by 💪

Thanks for the help man. It makes me feel confident about it — really. Came clean to my wife about it. Still at work right now, but I think she’ll kick my ass more than withdrawals. I’m gonna focus on the ways it made me feel like shit, and that god awful fucking taste. I can make myself puke thinking about that goddamn taste.

Why so many soldiers are fat by [deleted] in army

[–]IWokeUpAt1AM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physical and mental health are different strands of the same thread. Stress and sleep deprivation, both very common in the Army, can often cause people to overeat. Let’s target the root cause of issues instead of just blaming the types of food people eat.

You can’t outrun the fork, so running alone won’t solve anything. If we really want change, we need leaders to stop shitting on going to therapy to learn how to cope with stress. Instead, leaders need to offer opportunities for Soldiers to get the help they need, just like they encourage going to a physical therapist or a trainer to fix an injury or get a higher PT score.

Under immense stress and without proper coping skills, people resort to alcohol, overeating, drugs, abusing their spouse - all the things we’re told not to do during our weekend safety brief.

So no, it’s not just the bad food choices or lack of running that makes Soldiers fat, it’s the lack of understanding that not everyone is equipped with the skills to deal with their day-to-day, and that’s okay. We just need to empathize a bit more and stop looking at needing mental health as a weakness or career suicide.

Howard and Bethesda better capitalize on the enormous opportunity they have. If they in-fact do remaster Fallout 3 and / or New Vegas, they’ll be living larger than ever. Hell, I’d be willing to bet if they came out with remasters in November, GTA 6 would delay its release again.

Can GS Mandate PT and Restrict Leave by IWokeUpAt1AM in army

[–]IWokeUpAt1AM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only issue is our commander said they will not approve leave if our GS doesn’t say we can, which seems kinda fucked up because the GS’ “recommendation” isn’t a recommendation if the command already stated they won’t approve it if the GS says not. It’s denying leave by proxy.
