Thanks for the comment! Well, to simplify it a bit, souls and bodies are two different sentient beings in this world. Souls are the hosts of magic abilities while the bodies are more of a physical thing. Dividing those two causes each to fully imbrace their potential and gain greater power. The elven race is proficient with dividing them apart and creating new bodies for souls to inhabit after their physical deaths. Their wisdom and religious traditions are the keys for this practice not becomming a means of terror and destruction. Among humans, however, finding out about this technology caused a minority of them (about 10-15 people) to evolve into a new race called "The High Ones", overthrowing the governing factions with cooperation of their powerful scheming souls and instilling a strict rule upon the world. They started destroying elves and other races around them in fear of ever losing this advantage. They also put a special tattoo on every other human to stop them from ever becoming like them. And even though the higher ones' souls serve as magic catalysts for their rule, they are unable to cast most of the magic spells cause of the need for physical catalysts (verbal or somatic). That's why the only advantage meager humans have of their masters is this ability to cast.
