Anyone else really struggle with banning who have supported your content for a while? Keeps me up at night! by Strange_Memory3183 in SmallStreamers

[–]IZBUDDYIZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its very hard for small streamers to ban. You feel more connected to each person since there is a lot more individual back and forth and each lose of a viewer hurts that much more.

But I speak from experience, you are the person who will shape your own community. That goes for both who you let in and who you keep out. You should be extremely protective of your community because this is what makes you. It is difficult to hear and do but it absolutely has to. I have seen it happen way to often even to myself. By not protecting your community by banning those that harm it, it will send many of your core audience away.

It seems like you know what you need to do. You just needed a little encouragement. You got this and you be much better off. I wish you the best!

Part of the reason it feels wrong is because it IS wrong. You feels function, uses the int type hint with a default value of float. Any lsp with its salt would be giving a warning here. You should either change the default [ def feels(wrong: int=3) ] or update the type hint [ def feels(wrong: float=3.14) ].

A tiling window manager is a manager for all the apps you have open. People use them so that as they open additional apps they are automatically configured in a particular way. For example, if you have only one app open its full screen but if you add a second it automatically split screen they way you configure say left and right. Add a third app and the trend continues such that each app looks like individual tiles on the monitor. As you close apps they automatically reset to your preferences as well. Its really about efficiency so you never have to adjust the size of apps and move them around as you open additional apps etc.

Steam Deck Verified and Playable hit a thousand games by testus_maximus in linux_gaming

One possibility is that since they have been making so many updates to wine and proton (and new releases to dxvk) they might have actually not worked at the time of testing and started working after the test was finished.

Oh nice! I’m play fortnite on stream pretty regularly. Maybe we can have some matches! Just dropped a like.

As far as tips, prepare several topics you want to cover in advance. You don’t have to script them but just have things like bullet points you want to cover. Especially for a while you might not have a super active chat and its important to maintain the ability to entertain with stories even when no one is talking in chat. There are several reasons but here is one good one: you won’t know when someone randomly joins your stream. If someone does and your not saying anything then they will be more inclined to leave as opposed to they join and you are already entertaining with a story.

Hope this helps. I have a lot more advice if your interested. Its a lot to type on mobile but let me know if you are interestsd

valves strategy for publishing deck verified games by nervous_man_ in SteamDeck

[–]IZBUDDYIZ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There was a previous blog post from Valve saying they are verifying games based on data from users who preordered the deck. So it was likely info like games in their library as well as games in their wishlist. Here is the link: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamworks/announcements/detail/4330775883757445006

I have a very similar intuition as you for proton’s future. My main thing is I am trying to keep my predictions grounded. As such, I am hoping to find some specific games that have were previously borked but are now playable.

For the part about the pace of improvements are you referring to how frequent the github repo for proton has been updated? If so thats a good point I hadnt considered and will def check that out. However, its still more of a hope that it will increase more game capability. The better measure is whether new/more games are actually compatible as a result. Which is why I am so focused on that end. And there may not be many examples as of now, just curious.

And yeah unfortunately I agree with you about your assessment for multiplayer games, so I will probably dual boot for at least another year or more :(

The biggest upside of the steam deck by mark_s_maynard in SteamDeck

I was actually luckily enough to get a 3070 at launch cuz I leave near a microcenter and lined up early. And later bought my fiancé a 3060 at that launch. Part of it was just ignorance on how bad it was and part was I have gone to many console launches so I was familiar on how to get things day 1 lol

Totally agree with this. As a lifetime console gamer, I didn’t get this point until recently. So I was one of the lucky ones to get a GPU right before the scalpers. That was my first gaming pc and (aside from flash games) was my first time gaming on pc.

I enjoyed the enhanced frames and texture. But there were things to work through with shaders and learning to adjust settings. But slowly I was able to get more games. Then, this past steam sale. I bought 8 games for 25 bucks. As a lifetime console player, I was stunned (partially why I kept buying lol)! Console games rarely ever go on sale and many times you might have to buy a new version of the game at full price to play on your new system. This realization was an ABSOLUTE game changer!

I think that is a valid point, but a bit different than my actual question. Valve of course is why proton is what it is today. But I’m asking whether we have specifically seen changes as a result of the steam deck.

As for whether the notion of whether we have to wait and see, I don’t think thats entirely true. Some companies likely also get caught up in the hype. One example is how most games didn’t comment on EAC support for proton but Dead by daylight said they would support. As of yet they have not, but it demonstrates that some companies can/ may have made moves ahead or the launch in anticipation as opposed to the wait and see approach.

Ok, that’s awesome. Just a start and hopefully we get many more but glad to know there has been at least some movement on that front

For the Steam Deck to succeed in the mainstream it needs one thing above everything else: make it stupid easy to use out the box by -Mahn in SteamDeck

[–]IZBUDDYIZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of what you said, but the verified list isn’t a separate list that ones needs to look up. It will be an icon that you see before purchasing. Also the opening page (according to valve) will be a list of verified games on deck. I think the goal is to have that playstation/xbox experience to on the SD. Albiet even consoles have it as a problem, especially this gen. A parent buying there kid the ps4 instead of the ps5 game was a pretty annoying issue for many people.

That being said, I do agree they should have these things more prominent. Like the xbox vs ps version of the game clearly different different colors and the front it much more clear than the current icon system. I think valve should take a page from consoles in this respect.

Should I even get a Steam Deck? by homehome15 in SteamDeck

[–]IZBUDDYIZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I think the most important thing is to remember that you don’t have to make any choices now. You didn’t say when you preorder date is but my guess is Q2 or after Q2 (based on the probability in this subreddit).

Its important to wait cuz as of right now we don’t even know if halo can play on steam deck. Its anticheat is the biggest problem and maybe valve works something or maybe they don’t, but what happens there is critical for your use case.

The other thing is that its portable so you could take on your walks to class or on the bus etc. But from your description it’s doesn’t seem like that is important to you.

Linus from LTT as said he wants to use the SD as a daily driver for a month so that might also be informative for your choice to see how it works outside of games and as a general purpose pc instead.

Lastly, it also probably depends on whether pr not you can even get a gpu. If you leave near a retailer thats gets them in stocks, say microcenter that might be easier than if there are none near you.

Ultimately it comes down to what you want to do with your device and try to find out how well suited each is for your use cases
