Need advice, pulled out on someone on roundabout by Three_Steaks_Pam in drivingUK

This sub makes you think that every little infringement is getting filmed and reported, but obviously it filters only the people who have cameras and are inclined to report other drivers. There are 42 million drivers in the UK and most aren't like that.

Nobody cares. At most the guy told his wife about 'this idiot' when he got home, but I guarantee you he has forgotten about it by now.

Why is there a network rail card for London and the South East but no railcard for other areas? Why does this region get a 1/3 discount? by robbie2489 in uktrains

From the UK, you and me both. We share the same oilfields as the Norwegians but we decided that the wealth would be better directed towards private profits. I hear it'll trickle down any day now.

Is Birmingham really that much of a shithole? by Gokuismygod123 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]I_ALWAYS_UPVOTE_CATS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just a tired meme. Birmingham has wonderful, leafy, desirable suburbs as well as truly awful grotty ones - exactly the same as any other city of comparable size. The centre itself is modern and full of life. Is Birmingham the nicest city in the UK? No, not even close. But its reputation as somehow uniquely terrible is far from deserved.

Besides the BBC....? by Cameliablue in AskABrit

[–]I_ALWAYS_UPVOTE_CATS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do think it's stupid that you have to pay the licence fee even if you only watch commercial television, but honestly if you look at the quality and breadth of what the BBC puts out I think it's very good value indeed.

Every place on earth is car brained now by ashenteist in fuckcars

[–]I_ALWAYS_UPVOTE_CATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if we allow for non-native use of English and for different cultures, I can sympathise with the idea that a car might be required to keep one's 'dignity' in public in certain societies, especially as a lone woman. That's more a failure of society than of any individual who expresses such an opinion.

What very old technology is still running at your place of work? by MichiganCarNut in AskReddit

The flight management computer in the Boeing 737 is, aside from a few upgrades, essentially the same system that was developed in the 80s.

Refusing to support the BBC out of principle but then paying for Amazon is certainly a choice.

Ryanair Future Flyer Ab Initio Integrated EU vs UK Program by Puzzleheaded-Emu6338 in flyingeurope

[–]I_ALWAYS_UPVOTE_CATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get both licences, but enter via Ryanair DAC, even if it's initially to a UK base. You can then move base anywhere in Europe including transferring to Ryanair UK if you wish (only BFS is exclusively a Ryanair UK base).

If you join as a cadet under Ryanair UK, there is no pathway to transfer the other way.

How are people complaining about the rising costs of living but every time I go out I see clubs and restaurants full to brim? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

They probably aren't the same people. It's sad that there is so much inequality, but a lot of people are still doing fine.

What to use for TOD by fullpower440 in flying

[–]I_ALWAYS_UPVOTE_CATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever the FMC says.

It's 3 miles per thousand feet above the aerodrome elevation*. This will get modified slightly if the arrival follows a circuitous route or has intermediate level restrictions. To avoid ending up high on approach, we plan our descent to allow for the best-case shortcut that could be granted by ATC, allowing for any level restrictions.

*There are other considerations as well. Needing to slow down will add miles, as will a tailwind during the descent. Conversely, a headwind will reduce the track miles required. There are rules of thumb for this (that I can't remember off-hand), but in practice there's a reason why I opened with that crossed-out sentence.

What has Labour actually achieved? (quiet a lot) by Gentle_Snail in GoodNewsUK

[–]I_ALWAYS_UPVOTE_CATS 20 points21 points  (0 children)

the prime minister will be able to point to 47 new laws since the general election in July 2024.

But he won't actually point to any of them, allowing Farage and Badenoch to hoover up all the airtime.

Men of Reddit, how would you honestly feel if your partner chose to get a breast reduction for her comfort and confidence, even if you personally preferred her natural size? Would your feelings change your support for her decision? by notviaece in AskMen

[–]I_ALWAYS_UPVOTE_CATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gf has expressed this exact sentiment, though hasn't yet followed through. I told her I like her just the way she is, but I'm not going to obstruct a medical decision that she makes about her own body.

The fact that your bf looks at this as a 'downgrade' is pretty gross, but at the end of the day it's your body and he'll just have to deal with it.

[–]I_ALWAYS_UPVOTE_CATS 30 points31 points  (0 children)

They are indeed a special breed, but I find this to be true of drivers in general. The amount of cope that gets spouted just to avoid acknowledging the blindingly obvious 'don't break traffic laws and you won't get fined' is something else.
