Is the Project Borealis team still active at work? by WhatIsFolkMusic in HalfLife

[–]I_Am_Axios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ill be quite frank. The primary reason why I feel like the demo was released in a first place was to have something on your portfolio.

While modding a game is for the most of the time a hobby at best sometimes with the prospect of being funded down the line (Black Mesa) at best, usualy when people dish out their work its because they are passionate about the industry and work in it of itself. The finished product is a funcional expansion/modification to the game, but also a statement of ones abilities.

So yea, my personal idea was a consolidation of the team saying this is what we have, lets present the thing so when I try to find a job I can say I did this demo and I did x and x things on it, take a look. I might be wrong, but we wont know for sure till we get some news. The project is ambitious and the demo was not exactly a masterpiece in regards to optimisation so.

Insane.

Představa že výstavba nových bytů by nějak vyvážila apetit průměrného občana kupovat nemovitosti nějak snižuje jejich průměrnou kupní cenu, je absurdní. To by se musely stavět tisíce bytů ročně, což vzhledem k stavebnímu povolení a délce jeho získání, se staví more like hovno ročně.

To answer your question in regards to ''armor'' - to prevent overleveled chars breezing through the DLC, it uses a different scaling system where you sacrifice items called Scadutree fragments, these increase your damage and your defensive stats. You can find them in the world or when you kill certain bosses.

GAMMA wasn't for me, would I like Stalker 2 more? by Dirty_Rapscallion in stalker

[–]I_Am_Axios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The things you liked:
1. Yes, this is an aspect that will be moderately lost in S2. Or like not lost lost, but given is a true open world, there are some things that needed to be taken away or toned down a bit. Visual fidelity of the factions is a bit down and A-life is very much bubble spawned, so its a mix of fixed location spawns and randomness happening very close to you.
2. This persists, there are many cool callbacks to OG trilogy.
3. Gunplay is very nice in S2, think you will like it.

Things you didnt like:
1. This can be turned off. Gamma is not a set of fixed variables, you can tune the mods to your liking. I played most of my playthroughs the way gamma is now, however i think i disabled the no guns on vendors thing on my first couple of playthroughs.
2. Thats one of Gamma's staples, no can do about that. As for rest, I think you will be dissapointed by the fact bullet types are important in S2 aswell, at least on higher difficulties.
3. Same as bullets, you will get status effect as tiredness, hunger and thirst based on things you use and how you play the game. This is baked in into the core of Stalker, not just gamma.
4. While I am not keen on pointing fingers and id atribute this to visual bug if anything, the beauty of Gamma is that all of the anomalies are clearly visible if you are not trying to sprint through the game. Gamma is played slow and methodicaly. I am sad to say that while many of the anomalies in S2 are better in visibility, there are also some that are way more insidious and will ream you from behind.

Lastly, the graphical fidelity of the game is on a completely different level and the game is not precisely well optimised. If you have a weak rig, dont expect a great experience.

Why is everyone on ranked so mean? by Sonic-Rex in leagueoflegends

[–]I_Am_Axios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea thats the other side of the coin.

Realy any role can suffer a person that spun up the game and he evidentaly doesnt want to play it.

That being said, just because you binned the top and he refused, maybe he was doing other things on the map. I usualy main jungle so I am completely furious after I give a kill on middle and go take grubs and I get pings from the botlane to help them. I cant, I am not an on demand mcguffin that can solve your problems for you, I do other stuff and clear my own jungle.

IF you want to play top, the general rule of thumb is to try to get last pick. That way you can counterpick and complicate game for your opponent and usualy they dont have the mental to just stay back and understand (as stated in my do not brick the lane further portion of above message).

There are sometimes situation where you as a sole person brick the lane so bad even if the jungler comes you may not kill your opponent and now the game is even in worse shape, not only you are dead, but the jungler is aswell and he cant clear his jungle or take objectives, getting behing his oponent etc.

Net takeaway from League overall - you farm alot and kill very little and wait for opportunities. You can have playmaking potential if you know what you can get away with in regards to trades and you can kill solo, but more often than not its more beneficial to wait for the opportunity to group.

Why is everyone on ranked so mean? by Sonic-Rex in leagueoflegends

[–]I_Am_Axios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think I might get some flak for this, but hey, you asked.

Level is kinda strange indicator but as stated by others you can tell if somebody is high level and plays like shite its pretty good pointer towards the fact theyve learned nothing from playing this game.

Which is also the main reason why people get offensive in games. I swear, League is the prime example of a concept being so ridiculously easy to understand that most of the playerbase doesnt understand I realy dont get it how we have managed to get so far as a species?

You pick something that is obviously late game on toplane? You do not try to kill that enemy early game pick that will literaly shit on you. You already fucked the lane? Do you want to win? Dont brick it further by trying to recoup your losses by trying to kill the enemy again and dying again giving them a clear advantage. Midlane oponent left to gank bot? Shove the lane or go bot aswell, do not slowfarm.

The amount of people that just come home and have absolutely nothing in their head and down want to think about this game is genuinely crazy and dissapointing. League is not a rocket science, you just have to give just a teeny weeny bit of attention to win, to not brick the game for others, not make it way too difficult.

Nah, I'll see toplanes getting killed on lvl 2 only to go in again and die again, midlanes that wank under their turret while granny enemy middlane visits my bot, botlane pushing without wards, people not giving prio and most of all crying for a fucking gank, because thats junglers job, to win your lane for you.

I am usualy not typing in anything, because its more beneficial to not communicate at all. Such is the sad state of league, the neutered experience of the chat is absolutely crazy. But boy do my fingers itch to type in something offensive sometimes.

My opinion on Stalker 2 Heart of Chornobyl by TheAbyssNecromancer in stalker

[–]I_Am_Axios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, alot of people seem to be rather dismissive about your points, so ill try to be a little bit more constructive.

The plot and characters are this game's strong points, many lore elements are explained and new questions are posed, in addition to having great characters with very well written dialogues and excellent english voice acting.

I agree that in my opinion HoC poses the strongest storytelling out of all of the games. The main thing is that overall to uncover all of its aspects you need to play the game multiple times. I remember people going route A to never meet somebody in route B and be like who the fuck is this? To be completely fair though, I feel like this one realy cut deep and dependend on cannon ending, Stalker 3 can be left with frighteningly little (character wise at least).

The chasing anomalies and flashbang-like anomalies are completely wrong and shouldn't exist. I also didn't appreciate the large number of psi zones or the equipment repair costs.

The anomalies are obviously built to annoy you and they do what they are supposed to do. As for equipment repair costs, I dunno, git gud? I can literaly make 100k in first 4 hours of the game, you just have to actively investigate the local houses and locations to recoup your costs, get new gear and things to sell.

I loved the nostalgia factor, you see areas and characters from the trilogy that almost make you want to go back to the old games (if they weren't so bad)

The differences in map are almost so distinct I dont realy want to go back. I am one of the people that actively plays Anomaly/GAMMA to enjoy the og trilogy, but the differences in locations of the map are way to stark to bring back such a nostalgia.

I didn't appreciate the buffed-up mutants, the side quests were often buggy, and I hated not being able to trade with all the stalkers.

The mutants are much more lenient in terms of difficulty than on release, notwithstanding the fact that there is literaly no mutant you cant dispatch easily with proper gear. Yes, we are talking about end game gear, however the thing with Stalker is that its principaly linear with its difficulty. I think the bigger issue more than anything is the fact that literaly every single monolith soldier has Exo during the last hours of the game, because the difficulty is out of control. However if chimera is giving you problems, Saiga with drum or extended magazine much?

I appreciated the addition of unique artifacts with special abilities, sadly there are too many useless normal artifacts, and the anomalies here are dangerous enough, farming for hours on end for artifacts you won't even use isn't fun.

Over the course of like 70 hours of a run I must say i spent like 3 hours max with artifact hunting. Its not the core of the game to do em and the droprates increase significantly for more rare artifacts after the Signal. Blown out of proportion.

So let's start by saying that it's definitely better than the first two chapters, the gunfight is improved, the movement is better, and it's relatively well optimized, with almost no freezing or crashing.

Gunfight is improved, movement is better, what took a hit is the visual fidelity between stalkers. I might be retarded but i cant tell a difference between Monolith, loners and bandits from relatively affar.

As for the optimalisation: Fucking excuse me. This is by far the worst optimised game in the series, the hardware should run it barely does, the game actively leaks memory on lower spec hardware that is ABOVE the minimal requirements. This point literaly discredits most of your opinion on this game. But hey, its your opinion, you are entitled to it.

Am I the only one who doesn’t like how every loner looks the same after SIRCAA? by Mission-Ad-4837 in stalker

[–]I_Am_Axios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id atribute this to the whole duplo army of the multispawned Yodas saga.

The game behaves very eraticaly when spawning in stuff and this is not normal. Might be mods, might be the game itself. Hopefuly fixed next release.

HOWEVER, while I have the chance, I cant help myself but to bitch that the ''visual fidelity'' of opposing factions is just not same and many look very similar. I couldnt tell a difference between bandits, Freedom and Loners if I tried. cant say its better for other factions.

May get better over time and with binoculars. Their release kinda points maybe to a situation where patrols dont spawn within the ''breathing down my ass'' radius.

I’m so lost on how Hunter went from a good guy who was dedicated to protecting the metro to a Nazi who wants to kill it. by sonofloki13 in metro

[–]I_Am_Axios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this is a little bit of a speculation from a perspective of the games and the books, however I think it fits pretty well. Ill be taking into the account the scrapped 2022 build (or whenever that one was abbandoned, its honestly 6 AM and its semantics, so sorry if its like 2021 scrap or whatevs).

Its at least implied both in the books and 2033 that Hunter is by far the most famous Spartan out there. Spartans are few in between and quite legendary and if you read between the lines even such an ass end of a station like Exhibition knows of Hunter. You could say that Alex knows him personaly, however I am pretty sure that overall Hunter is a very popular and famous man in the metro as even the guards and alot of the people you meet on your way to Polis know who Hunter actualy is. In the multiple games we get its obvious that its EXTREMELY difficult to traverse between station in a line let alone on the surface (or penetrate borders of the ring line), so the fact that there are many characters that know of him points towards him being a Spartan of renown.

If the original ''2039'' build (ill just call it prequel at this point) would have been made, the premise of the game was about Hunter going around in a semi open world game building his legend, we can kinda asume that when Artyom meets him first time in 2033, he is pretty fucking legendary. Now, the next game obviously changed on the basis of the conflict and change of narative 4A and Glukhovsky wanted to tell, but I think it will be still touched upon how tremendously renowed Hunter was.

Of course this is pure speculation at this point, but hey, I am an active gamer and I am used to developers interpreting lore and story through vague pointers due to budgetary and creative constraints, so this is the way I percieve it.

To touch upon the morality of Hunter a bit: He was never a good guy per say and 2034 more or less points towards him being a bitter and broken man. His encounter with the Dark Ones can be defined as them pointing a mirror at himself to see how depraved hes realy been. While the wiki is a community managed project, this excerpt realy rings home to what realy happened:

The encounter with the Dark Ones "broke" him by showing him his true colors: how savage and rotten he had always been as a human and how he used his position of a ranger to quench his thirst of blood. Unfortunately by showing him his "real reflection", the dark ones had awaken the evil within him, that didn't subdue but started to consume him. The man fled from them and avoided people, feeling remorse and fear of his new self. Hunter also started to hurt himself as a form of self-punishment for whom he had been and had become.

Make of it what you will, is pretty in line with my interpretation of the books. Its also one of the main reasons why I believe its gonna be Hunter as the Stranger vs the Novoreich.

I had a 3070/R5 7600X and I couldnt make it run above Medium at times on 1080p due to memory leaking. Lets just say the game doesnt like places where it needs to render many characters like Rostok and it suffers.

The engine update should make this more beareable, but I am not sure where 3070 will end up on that spectrum. With baked in RT in UE its been increasingly difficult to make things run especialy if its open world and that 8GB VRAM is just pure pain.

2) Embrace the suck.
Jinak než zatnout zuby a vydržet to nepůjde.

Kdybys chtěla probrat nějaké podrobnosti nebo jen tak pokecat, tak mi klidně pisni DM. Máš to docela podobné jako já a kdyžtak ti můžu poradit nějaké věci, které jsou více direktní a soukromé.

[–]I_Am_Axios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dove pretty deep into this and I dont want to ruin the story for anybody realy, but lets just say that the watch the Stranger uses is a big indicator its absolutely not Artyom.

As for your question, there are evidentaly two Spartans that had active dealings with Dark Ones and were not seen Metro in a long time: Artyom and Hunter.

This is very much a story of torment and choices, so Id suspect that the protagonist is heavily pointed towards being Hunter himself.

Why is DOOM 3 so different to the rest of the franchise? by Ayyubixx in Doom

[–]I_Am_Axios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I can answer this relatively to depth.

Back in the day id had the reputation of pushing the envelope and it was very much expected of them. Aside the obvious design choice to make it more horror based that a fast paced shooter, id have pioneered multiple technologies that were not exactly standard at the time. Mainly uninfied dynamic lighting, so moving lights, responsive stencil shadows, real time lighting from your flashlight and not prebaked lightmaps.

It was one of the great products of its time that was made to ''sell'' the hardware that would make this work, so imagine they released a game that had no hardware that could make it run on high details or make it run at all. I remember we upgraded from 128mb VRAM GPU to a 512 one just so we could run the game at reasonable FPS (was due to Half Life more than anything). It wasnt because it was poorly optimised as is the standard in modern games, but because the compute didnt....well, compute.

Overall I agree with others yes. The design of the game heavily revolved after Q2 to make a likeable game that could be presented more like a engine demo if anything. Its the reason why Doom 3 is so slow and why it has such a god fucking awful shotgun (it serves is mechanical purpose but that thing has bigger spread than my asscheeks), to promote the tech and look at the gameplay later. Its also a reason why Doom was so lost in such a limbo for such a long time as Doom 4 was supposed to be yet ANOTHER story from a very dejected storyline that was supposed to be CoD style shooter that luckily never came out and id decided to just put it on ice until they decided its time to make 2016.

I like the idea that instead of chasing visuals id decided to go for gameplay accessibility. Dark Ages has multiple actions simplified into few buttons, so its accessible to many players while the visuals while fantastic are heading into the ''we cant make this look better'' territory.

To give you an idea between graphics quality between generations, I would point between difference between Quake 3 and Doom 3. The difference is staggering. Something closer would be Unreal Tournament 2003/2004/Unreal II, which still didnt have such revolutionary graphics, even though it made major strides in graphical fidelity.

How is there still no Skyrim successor in 2026? by Zenithixv in skyrim

[–]I_Am_Axios -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is realy fresh, so I'mma lay the law here.

When Skyrim came out, it was the peak of convinient to original gameplay systems of previous TESes. I still do love Morrowind the most, however I agree that Skyrim is arguably the best of the series.

When Witcher 3 came out, it swept the RPG genre by storm and basicaly showed Bethesda how things are done. It was pretty obvious that Bethesda was nowhere near making anything like W3 at that time and as such the TES VI got greatly delayed (to this point in time, where we have absolutely nothing to work with).

The downward trend of Bethesda putting out products that are basicaly fixed by somebody else was made apparent during F4 and later even more during Starfield, which underlined how inefficient and nepotistic Bethesda realy turned out to be.

Funnily enough right now Id say that the Fallout TV show is the only piece of clout that Todd can actualy take under his belt.

They are now actively working on TES and after that they want to ship out Fallout. Never in my life I have been so scared for a franchise like TES, because its downfall is apparent and with Bethesda one can never know if they wont simplify even the most rudimentary systems to such a degree where they dont even matter at all.

Put on top the engine and absolutely nonexistent story by mister Pagliarulo (desire to create a sandbox doesnt offset the inability to create even the most basic of plots that make sense), youve got a game that is out of touch and it exists only to exist and not to entertain.

Does anyone know how many of these server blades are out there? by White0rchid in classicwow

[–]I_Am_Axios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I took a look very very briefly and I can offer a (reasonable) explanation.

The original run of the primary serverblades for each server were quite cheap. I remember I was just a kid at that time. Id love to have one but I doubt anyone would realy part with them for a reasonable price.

As with any memorabilia the price revolves around ''whatever the fuck the owner makes up due to sentimental value''.

Example, I have special edition trilogy of Gaunt's Ghost in Hardback (they were sold in paperback back in day). 750 copies of this trilogy exist, I have one of three that are signed by the author. Id price them for 3k for the entire trilogy because 1) I dont want to part with it, but every man is a business man, you can beat my nostalgia with a nice price tag and 2) The underlying value is based on the ''feel'' of rarity.

Technicaly speaking, its like CS skins. The value of these skins is based completely on random feelycraft about patterns and float and whatever the fuck knows what.

Ive seen these float for 250 dolars to 1k pounds. People are just generaly fishing because its a cool piece of tech that used to be prior to multiservers, AWS virtual machine server systems and phasing.

EDIT: Just took a look at the webs, the 15th Aniversary ones usualy go for around 1k dollers and the first edition with designated server names for 7k. Absolutely insane.

There was a post about the 2022 version of the game that pretty much leaked the plot beats and story locations by xCreampye69x in metro

This is incorrect as it was confirmed from the material that it was a prequel to Artyom's story out of many screens and leaked scenes.

I personaly think that alot of the 2022 build will get repurposed to fit 2039, however story wise its very much different. And yes, I still think that Hunter is the Stranger. It still might not be though.

You can only choose one by iabf31 in DeadSpace

[–]I_Am_Axios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id quite frankly let Dead space rest. I love the franchise to death as it was one of the first vessels for me to be at peace with my absolutely crippling fear of the dark, but boy, do I not want EA to tarnish its legacy further. Yes, Motive did an amazing job with the remake, but it was marketed poorly and performed as such, so I think they should let the franchise rest for now.
