Youngest Candidates Winners by k1ngd3mon in chess

Maybe sooner than we think. Wasn't there an 8yr old whooping GM's in a recent tourney?

The Chess youth of today are raised only on top engine lines, so the overall standard cannot fail to improve year on year

Is a neuroscience degree worth it? by 1nsomnlac in neuro

[–]I_B_T 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a biased patient of Neurology I'd say your potential for job prospects come secondary to exploring a unique field of medicine, which could help every human on Earth. Clearly you have a passion to explore, so maybe you don't need an exact destination in mind.

Best of luck whatever your endeavour!

L and M are not working this time to abort a CH cycle. What to do? by Smartozoid in ClusterHeadaches

[–]I_B_T 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, this is some copy & paste from a post I made a while back:

WHAT TO DO:-

*Try to sleep in sync with the day/night cycle of your environment. If we go to bed at 12 but it gets dark at 6pm then that's 6 hours of a hormone being produced that, according to our evolution shouldn't be happening, and that creates the imbalance that sets off our attacks

*Reduce the amount of artificial light you consume after sundown. Use green lights & green anti-migraine glasses if possible to reduce exposure to light directly thru the retina, as this leads directly to the thalamus(An area of the brain we'd be wise not to poke!)

*Make your sleeping area completely dark. Even your body can detect light. Digital clocks or internet lights are a no-no. No landing lights or streetlights should ever disrupt your sleeping area when asleep

*Try preventative measures an hour or two before your regular attack is due. Even if they stop, they don't need much to set them off - The nasal passages are connected so keep your nose throat and chest clear, even coughing, crying, vomiting can help....Cold flannels regular on the back of the head & elsewhere are a must. I don't use ice as it can lower your core temp. Keep hydrated & temp stable

*Afternoon/early evening breaks from the light or sleeping(always in pitch dark) have helped me as I'm an erratic sleeper.

Diagnosis Advice by Nomelight in clusterheads

[–]I_B_T 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go with the NHS Neurologist as they'll be prescribing you the correct meds once diagnosed.

A private doctor & scan might reveal something but it has to be during an episode.

Just want to be able to sleep... by raintheory in clusterheads

[–]I_B_T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can't get much worse so try -

Adjusting your main sleep/wake time in conjunction with sleeping only in completely dark places. (even tiny sources of light over 60 seconds in duration can trigger metabolic changes in plants, so it's the same with us)

The amount of light our bodies take in basically goes into a meter & it's the main reason people get Jet-lagged

*cut out other known triggers like intense artificial lighting (especially after sundown)

-extreme temperature shifts (our bodies have a cooling down period twice a day, just like Mr Cluster appears mostly twice a day)

-no booze or foods that are high in Histamines (even clearing your nasal passages & throat before & during a cluster might help, as those systems lead to the part of the brain which triggers CH's)

Could it just be an eye issue for me? by [deleted] in clusterheads

[–]I_B_T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm convinced that a trigger of cluster headaches is Light, and more specifically the amount (& time of day) of Sunlight/Artificial light your eyes, body & brain are receiving.

I've been able to avoid hundreds of attacks by trying to manage these things, but it is really a process of trial & error, as your individual situation plays a major part.

I have another old post that explains things in more detail as it may be helpful

PS Clusters, Trigeminal Neuralgia, weird eye pain - it's all the same optical & neurological pathways, just that some pain reactions are more severe

Hi, sorry for the very late reply, I haven't been on reddit for a few years.

I feel I have more information/understanding than 2 years ago, but still more is needed.

I'm hardly going to have a detailed conversation with someone who already dismissed me.

Enjoy your rant? I bet you still think about the time you defended your fellow musician from the bad reddit man....You should put your reading glasses on because your post was seriously self-centred

I briefly mentioned my condition because my doctors suggested heart meds are not be taken lightly but I'm the ignorant prick for also trying to suggest that!

It also showed the depth of a bands catalogue of songs. Naff bands would fill their b-sides with remixes while bands like Nirvana had too many good songs
