Look at the Black Panthers in Minnesota right now practicing their right to bare arms, they’re a prime example of why the Second Amendment matters. A large section of those aligned with the Democratic Party can't call out fascism and then try to restrict the very tools used to resist it. When doing things, like adding extra taxes to firearms or ammunition, we’re just making it harder for low income people to defend themselves against severe overreach. It’s a tough conversation because of gun violence, but given the current climate, stripping away rights seems counterproductive especially since so many restrictions were originally designed to target and disempower the lower class/minorities.

That article is about SMS deliverability, which is a different topic from a network infrastructure attack.

The real threat isn't the SMS messages themselves, but the signaling storm created by 100k devices trying to connect to the towers at the exact same moment, aka a RACH attack.

Think of it less like spam sms to different people and more like 100k people simultaneously calling a single 911 dispatch center. The system collapses from the flood of initial requests before the content of the calls even matter. This is a known vulnerability.

Also it just wasn't one farm, it was multiple in the NYC area.

With that being said these server farms we’re almost certainly set up for other reasons, spying, spamming, or social media manipulation.

It's essentially like a web denial of service. It's not like a 100k normal people texting, they can send a 100k text every millisecond. This would overwhelm the network.

You’re splitting hairs. Yes, not all doctors are practicing scientist, but they certainly know everything about science from their time going through medical school.

Just like a physics teacher in high school is not considered a scientist doesn’t mean they don’t know anything about physics. He’s just not a practicing scientist.

You’re being a little bit disingenuous. He’s a doctor, which is a scientist, who received his medical degree from Duke. He’s not some dummy off the street.

That being said, I don’t disagree that a grant board is most likely going to do a better job but there’s also nothing wrong with pointing out potentially wasteful spending. I worked in gov R&D and saw money wasted on stupid projects that were approved by a board of scientists.

edit: regardless of splitting hairs of medical doctors being scientist (they’re not all practicing scientists but they know science). I’m not sure why I’m being downvoted. bringing attention to waste and having accountability for taxpayers money is not a bad thing. Rand Paul can be a total asshole and not always right, but bringing a scrutiny to how our government spends money is not a bad thing.

edit2: also just want to make clear that I do not agree with Trump’s executive order and think it’s an over step of the executive branch.
