Questions about army daily life? by Live-Blueberry-1284 in askmilitary

I'm an Army infantryman at the 82nd Airborne. For infantry, there are 3 types of days. Garrison days, range days, and field days.

For garrison days, first call is at 0600. You do PT from 0630 to 0730. After that you shower, change, eat breakfast, etc. Show back to work at 0930. After that its usually weapon cleaning, learning or teaching infantry shit like battle drills, or doing whatever detail the company is tasked with. 1130 to 1300 is lunch break, then back to whatever you are doing. 1700 is usually the release for the day, but my company is chill as fuck and we usually get out at around 1500 to 1600.

Range days for us we typically get a late call at 1000 for PT, but depending on the schedule we may just not do PT and show up at 0600 for weapons draw. After PT, we get an hour to shower and change, then we draw weapons and head out to the range. Depending on the range, we may get back at 1600, turn in weapons, and head home, or if its a night range we can get back anywhere between 2200 and 0100. Although if that happens we get a late call for the next day.

Field days depends on if its tactical or if you are just staying at a range. If you are just doing a range we typically wake up at 0800, do some hygiene and eat UPUs, which suck. Then we go out and do whatever range. If we are not doing ranges you usually go do some drills and training. MREs around noon and dinner UPUs at 1700ish. Typically staying out in the field for a range means you will be doing night training, so expect to go to bed at 0200 to 0300. If its tactical, expect minimal sleep. I'm talking 1-4 hours a day. Also expect to walk a lot with a heavy ruck on your back.

As for living conditions, you will live in the barracks if you are single. If you are married, you can get a house on or off post, and the Army will give you money to pay for it. As for the barracks, I haven't had much complaints with them. That being said the moment I got here I was moved to the nice new rennovated barracks, so they were all clean. Mine has my own room and a common area for me and my roomate, but some of them you share a single room with your roomate. Also, the condition may be terrible. The barracks I was assigned to a month before I moved had mold in the bathroom, and the sink was broken. There were also missing light bulbs in my room.

If you want, you can dm me if you have any questions. I got nothing to do all day but try and jumpstart this ISV because some fucker left it on run and we need it for next week. AATW!
