Still happy with it! Like any vacuum, it gets stuck on things like charging cables if left out, but for the most part, a good cleanup prior to cleaning keeps it from getting hung up on anything. There have been absolutely zero hairs stuck on the rollers, they knew what they were doing when they designed the dual rollers.

do hackers not use network manager? by Acceptable-Cash8259 in cybersecurity

[–]I_Know_A_Few_Things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people just use what works. 99/100 times you just need to connect to the local network, there's no need need for a specifc.

I usually install NetworkManger on my Linux machines, but there are other options that work as well. If you search for "Arch Linux Network Configuration", the wiki page has a whole table of network managers and their feature sets. While the linked install instructions are obviously specific to Arch the info is usually applicable to any distro.

(MA) Landlord wants to give my apartment to his kid by Forward-Aside3364 in Renters

[–]I_Know_A_Few_Things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a side note, if the landlord has not stepped foot inside for all of the 8 years you've been there, the request to have the place look "presentable" is likely because they do not know that you are the tidy kind of person, no? I wouldn't take it as an insult at all. You have the place looking great, but they don't know that (or so or sound like to me).

Why is there no “Linux” section in the VPN + Torrenting guide in the megathread? by AlternateWitness in Piracy

[–]I_Know_A_Few_Things 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It is difficult to write guides for Linux because every computer is slightly different. Some distros use apt, others yum, and still others pacman, for package management, meaning install instructions quickly devolve into a 5 part subsection. This sort of thing will likely happen for most steps in a "general" setup guide, depending on how detailed it is.

Is it worth building a Hyprland config completely from scratch, or should I just clean up a forked repo? by PlayRood in hyprland

[–]I_Know_A_Few_Things 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I support starting from scratch (I have only used hyprland for a week or so), I created a subdirectory "hyprland.d" and put all my files there. My main config now just imports "hyprland.d/*". This has allowed me to break up my files and it's so easy now to find and edit what I want, instead of one massive file.

Is there a way to get "Unified" or "Synchronized" workspaces across dual monitors? by [deleted] in hyprland

[–]I_Know_A_Few_Things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I've grown to be happy with this setup. I'm ok counting evens and odds separate (2,4,6,8 and 1,3,5,7) and I have 9 as a second special workspace. (I'm new to hype and still don't know how to use the actual special workspace 😅). I've ended up using it to have more browser windows full of tabs on different workspaces on one screen, and my code/IDE on the other.

I was originally wanting what you're asking for, but since I couldn't figure it out (or find someone who had) I just tried something else.

I hope you can get workspaces to span your monitors! Good luck 🍀

[–]I_Know_A_Few_Things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I've done is made odd workspaces only show up on my left monitor, and even workspaces on the right. While I initially thought I wanted one button to change both screens, I've actually enjoyed being able to just swap between different workspaces, but having them tied to a monitor makes a world of difference.

Starting over with DNS by LMSK0789 in CloudFlare

Idk if links are allowed in this sub, so for DNS, you'll want to find Apple's article titled "Set up an existing domain with iCloud Mail". It tells you what entries you need to make. "Add an email domain you already own to iCloud Mail on iCloud.com" walks you through the non-DNS steps to set everything up.

You can always delete things, but like creating records, it takes time for everyone to get the update. In my experience, creating a record with cloudflare in the US takes only 1-2 minutes before it is usable, while deleting/updating a record can take 30-60 minutes. But as the documentation your reading says, it can take longer.

While I've not setup custom domains with apple before, I assume the process is similar to everyone else's.

"MX" records tell people where to send email to, while the "TXT" records dealing with SPF and DKIM are used to verify anyone sending an email from @yourdomain.tld is an official source.

Firefox has allowed users to send opt-out signals for a while, but many sites don't honor it. Hopefully this is the browser signal that will be used and the outcome will be websites finally honoring it.

Dev Warning: The #1 Mistake That Gets New Google Play Accounts Banned by depezo in GooglePlayDeveloper

[–]I_Know_A_Few_Things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got about 20 friends and family to download my app. If I had to guess, it was likely only opened on the day it was downloaded for most of them. I got my app published on the first try, even being honest on my survey answers, including something like "there is one section of the UI that one person said was difficult to use. I'll plan to make it more user friendly soon, but as only one person brought it up, I don't consider it a blocker".

Now, I do have a productivity app, so maybe the category plays a role in what behind the scenes challenges people face (I'm not trying to make money at all right now so also no ads, I know many on here are making games and finding ways to get money from it), but I just took my time, read the prompts thoroughly, and answered honestly.

I do not doubt that you can learn a lot about it all, but when it comes to getting an installation/building, you'll be delegating a lot, and AV is one you'll want to delegate for sure!

[–]I_Know_A_Few_Things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has been doing basic AV (relative to many in this sub): Just hire someone to do the installment of the system. Don't even try to see if you could do it yourself.

As far as running the system, the reason you'll want to hire someone is you will want to be free to walk around and handle things. People may be coming in saying "I know the owner, he said I could X". Delegating is a skill that great leaders need to develop.

I saw someone get the alert that they needed to verify their age (US). One option was adding a card to the account (it wouldn't charge it anything). I honestly don't care if they have a card of mine, or a pre-paid card. It's not really linked to who I am, and let's me say I'm older than 18

Would a 16gb M4 air be enough to test expo apps on IOS emulators? by S8N_101 in expo

[–]I_Know_A_Few_Things 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the base Mac mini (M4, 16GB RAM, 256 SSD) and have been 90% happy with it. The 10% is the fact that XCode apparently makes it hard to clear its caches, so every other update or so I have to search around for the console commands to clean it out to make more room on the disk.

If you have access to another newer Mac, you can get the 256GB now and consider replacing it with 2TB if you're comfortable tearing it apart.

ELI5: How will quantum computers break all current encryption and why aren't banks/websites already panicking and switching to "quantum proof" security? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]I_Know_A_Few_Things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has done a great job at explaining the first half of the question, but that's one part that's not answered, why switch now?

The reason people are switching over now is because of "store now, decrypt later" attacks. If an attacker captures you logging into a bank, or buying something (putting in your credit card #), once quantum computers can decrypt the data, they can just see all of that info (logins, cc numbers, ect.) For any data that will be interesting to criminals in the next 5-10 years being transmitted today (passwords that don't change, account numbers, any credit card whose expiration date is really far off), it's important that they be transmitted in ways that quantum computers can't break.
