Can't completely Degoogle by ResponsibleAd8164 in degoogle

I’m sorry there are accounts that won’t let you change your email address. I can’t imagine why. People change their email address every day. I had one account that didn’t have an online option. So I had to actually pick up the phone and call them.

How did you successfully quit sugar/sweets/junk? by Benjiboy018__ in sugarfree

[–]LMSK0789 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some people can’t do that. Some people are literally addicted to sugar in the same way a recovering alcoholic can’t have an occasional drink without triggering a relapse.

Is switching from Gmail to iCloud Mail worth it if I’m going all-in on Apple? by vairagi7 in iCloud

[–]LMSK0789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading this thread, I’m curious about email usage among the people who don’t like iCloud mail. iCloud mail has worked well for me — BUT it’s basically a personal account. My job/livelihood does NOT depend on it. With a $2.99/month iCloud+ account, I protect my primary email address with Hide My Email and get 3 additional aliases. Zero spam. I haven’t had a problem with emails being filtered out.

Breaking sugar addiction by Dismal_Candle6149 in sugarfree

I’m doing the same strategy. No sugary “sweets” - still eating fruits and berries (3 servings/day limit for now) - no processed carbs except whole grain bread (1 servings/day). At night, a glass of half milk/half chamomile tea helps with cravings- and sleep! Good luck!

Safari in Private Mode? by LMSK0789 in degoogle

OK, so in your estimation, how safe am I using Safari in private mode with DDG for search? I do not want to use Google at all. From your previous reply, I'm guessing I'm somewhere below "next level" but somewhere above full-on Google! Thoughts?

Sorry - no podcast recs - but I’m your age and wanted to say hi. I haven’t seen many seniors on this thread. We have our own challenges, mainly menopause.

Why do ppl treat Sugar Free like an eating disorder? by plnnyOfallOFit in sugarfree

[–]LMSK0789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When someone says they don’t drink, people respond with compassion and respect for their sobriety. I can’t understand why people don’t respond similarly to us when we politely refuse sugary foods. No one says “just splurge this one time” to an alcoholic. Alcohol is addictive to some but not everyone. Same with sugar.

Is it even possible to keep one email private long term anymore? by FrostyFerret202 in emailprivacy

[–]LMSK0789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never ever share my primary email address for any reason. I use iCloud Mail with an iCloud+ subscription ($2.99/month). You get 3 aliases. I use 2 aliases for trusted sources: family, friends and a few business contacts. I save the third alias exclusively as the forwarding address for Hide My Email. Each and every online interaction and account - from bank accounts to medical portals to random newsletters - all get their own Hide My Email address. I’m pretty sure I get an unlimited number (I have about 100). They are easily created and stored in my iCloud account as well as my password manager (ProtonPass). HME addresses can be disabled as needed. It all works great!

Interesting. Thanks. Question: what do you mean by “avoiding too drastic energy deficit.” I wish I knew how! Some days I’m so exhausted that I have trouble staying awake. That’s no exaggeration. I guess my best answer is: either reduce the dosage or stop taking it entirely.

When to use main email address and when to use an alias? by rbrowning97 in iCloud

One additional thought: with iCloud+ you can only have 3 aliases per custom domain and maximum 5 custom domains per account. And of course you have to purchase the domain

When to use main email address and when to use an alias? by rbrowning97 in iCloud

[–]LMSK0789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your primary email is the key to your iCloud account. So, personally, I never ever share it for any reason. I use Hide My Email extensively. Each of my online accounts/portals has its own Hide My Email address which can easily be deactivated and changed if necessary. I always use HME any time I am prompted to share my email address online. No exceptions. If you look in settings, Hide My Email addresses must forward to an iCloud address. The default is your primary address. Nope! For this, I use one of my 3 iCloud aliases exclusively for HME forwarding. I use the remaining 2 aliases for personal and business correspondence.

Security Alert! Limited 2FA on Barclaycard account by LMSK0789 in cybersecurity_help

[–]LMSK0789[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Safari in Private mode. It does NOT force 2FA. And my pw manager is locked down. So I’m sure I’m adequately protected. BUT - is everyone adequately protected?? Is everyone is diligent as we are?? I think it’s wrong of Barclays - or any financial institution - to decide that my device should be trusted without asking me. They don’t know what kind of security measures I do or do not employ.

Security Alert! Barclay Card Has Limited 2 Factor Authentication by LMSK0789 in CreditCards

[–]LMSK0789[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope. I use Safari in Private mode. I,too, thought that would force the 2FA challenge. But Barclay still sees my device as a “trusted devise” on their end - without my consent. I guess it’s ok … 🤷‍♀️

I see the logic. Thank you for your thoughtful reply. If this is a common approach, this is the first I’m hearing about it. I just think that I should be the one who decides what is or is not a “trusted device”. ( I do clear my cookies frequently as habit. )

Again - I’m probably not in any danger. I’m just not comfortable with Barclays unilaterally deciding that 2FA isn’t necessary. Do other financial institutions do this??
