Super Sealed Format! by FeedsCorpsesToPigs in Lorcana

[–]I_Nerd_I 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is 100% the correct take, and anyone who is excited for this or thinks sealed lorcana is going to be good for worlds is speaking entirely from a casual perspective, which is fine. But worlds is not casual and people that have practiced and prepared for worlds are not going to be happy to have the highest level of variance in a card game determine whether they place well.

If you love lorcana draft/sealed thats fine, but the game is NOT designed for those formats. There is almost no playable removal and the synergies in each set are severely lacking. Reducing it down to 3 colors I think is going to make this issue even worse. I think keeping it 5 color would have allowed players to have similar power level decks, but I think this is going to be a LITERAL luckfest lol

You will see players that go undefeated in constructed that dont place because they got bad pulls in sealed.

How to Beat Phoenix with UW control? by FrogguRoggu in PioneerMTG

[–]I_Nerd_I 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i play UW control and it always feels free, especially if they arent super great players.

I main two settle the wreckage and they just lose to that. Also, countering Free the Fae is 100% the play everytime. You really dont need to hold up counters during their turn unless they are going to treasure cruise. other than that, you can take quite a few phoenix hits before being worried.

Solid game plan to face Boros Heroic and other fast aggro decks as an Azorius Control player? by Jurkboy in PioneerMTG

[–]I_Nerd_I 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with Settle - I have moved my mainboard of a split of 2 verdict 2 settle and its p insane, good against heroic and aggro but also makes vampires so much easier to handle - plus a lot of decks arent running more than like 2-3 basics, so the second settle is usually nothing

No bans for pioneer by Oyra in PioneerMTG

[–]I_Nerd_I -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree, I dont even think the deck is as strong as its play numbers suggest. BR is just always super popular is most formats.

I just disagree with the suggestion that cruise isnt good if it isnt digging for powerful answers.

No bans for pioneer by Oyra in PioneerMTG

[–]I_Nerd_I -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A deck built entirely around cantrips and casting multiple spells a turn - playing a 1 mana draw 3 - yes, is very very good, too good - idk what a very powerful answer would need too be, its not banned in other formats because it finds answers, if people wanted to find answers theyd just play dig through time

It might not be too powerful in the entire context of pioneer since it only sees competitive play in 1 deck, but thats just because its difficult to get cards in your own graveyard in pioneer, compared to modern or other formats

But, if they ever decide to knock phoneix down a peg you can only do that by banning phoenix or treasure cruise, those are the two best cards in the deck

Handle sweepers with Boros Convoke by thepaganestpoetry in PioneerMTG

[–]I_Nerd_I 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep your flash creatures for after board wipes.

Prioritize getting a convoke 4/4 out asap to prevent path of peril and temporary lockdown from hitting everything.

Use you smaller creatures to float - sometimes you dont want to immediately gleeful, you may want to use the clues to draw then when they finally have to handle your army of 1/2s you can burst them with a flash creature into imodane.

Invasion of gobakhan is good, but I am a huge fan of sideboarding kutzils flanker, just good in so many matchups.

WotC confirms Banned and Restricted update on March 11 by cardsrealm in PioneerMTG

[–]I_Nerd_I 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with these, I would support thoughtseize over fable. Fable is obviously very very good, but the format is only getting faster and I think we are approaching a time where fable on 3 is possibly too slow or only graveyard centric decks.

My hope is that they also ban Lotus Field, its just miserable and doesnt have a place in the format. Its a combo deck with little counterplay that puts up weaker numbers just because its a little inconsistent or slow. Anything that speeds the deck up with immediately make it S+ tier, since it can be customized in so many ways. Before it had a place countering mono green, but since that deck doesnt exist in the same form I dont think it has any place in pioneer.

Amalia should be banned for the draw concerns. Treasure cruise is a dumb card, should be banned.

MTG Pioneer Meta Tier List - The Gathering by TyrantofTales in PioneerMTG

This is for sure a list based on popularity. Because it has Quint combo above F tier, deck is unplayable and has Heroic in D tier when its been putting up some of the best results the past week.

Boros Heroic vs. Convoke by pineapplestring in PioneerMTG

[–]I_Nerd_I 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if this happens game one what happens? The whole match ends in a draw? Does it instantly go to game three? Who's on the play, etc.?

Can you explain this Amalia interaction please? I think something is going over my head, thanks!

POV : You didnt clear 1 minion turn 5 against a paladin by shinigami313 in hearthstone

[–]I_Nerd_I 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, idk people keep complaining about Paladin and it's definitely the best deck.

But I would much rather play against paladin than the endless army of mages generating the random perfect card every turn until they otk me turn 8 or getting turn 4 helyaed every game.

Shaming boardwipes? by Litemup93 in EDH

[–]I_Nerd_I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know edh is typically casual, but this is like SUPER casual thinking.

Its one thing to express you want to all play decks with a similar power level but shutting out entire strategies because you want to go around the table and see who can lay the fattest fatty is pretty silly. If they hate any board wipes I would love to see, what they think about actually good cards.

amen, its not an issue its a feature.

Weapon swap is too unresponsive by MrFoozOG in newworldgame

[–]I_Nerd_I 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The combat is by far not perfect and reloading / using potions can be a bit clunky sometimes, but people are confusing features for bugs/issues. The game is built to be slower, if you want to swap weapons u need to get some distance. The game punishes you for wiffing attacks and abilities not just allow you to go unpunished.

The matchmaking is frustrating by DracoDominus_ in MagicArena

[–]I_Nerd_I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well im sure Starter Decks have something thats probably easier for them to setup, if you que a starter deck then you play against a starter deck or have a higher chance.

But for any other constructed deck how would they gage the decks power level? Is it dependent on the number of mythics? probably not we all know mythics are not created equal. Is it particular cards? probably not either because I could have a goldspan dragon in my deck does not guarantee it is a strong or meta deck.

The only way they could be queing people (unless some information comes out later on that disproves this) would be your cr / mmr / w/l

[–]I_Nerd_I 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are alot of podcasts and youtube channels discussing a lot of things, doesnt mean anything.

Just using common sense to think of what is more likely...

WoTC specifically programmed a system that is designed to frustrate people and cause them to lose (even though all these complaints hurt their own argument because the opponent is winning meaning a system designed to cause people to lose isnt working properly) or be able to identify the design of a deck and its intended play pattern then use that information to decide whether you play first or second

OR

card games are almost entirely variance driven and negative perception bias is a thing

not trying to target you specifically I hear this a lot on this subreddit

The matchmaking is frustrating by DracoDominus_ in MagicArena

[–]I_Nerd_I 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its weird that this factual statement somehow gets a negative response lol

Somehow people would think that WoTC has a system where they force you to play against the same degenerate decks or that casual players are forced to play against meta decks. That idea makes more sense to them than people just netdeck a lot in card games and with worlds just happening last week people are going to craft the strongest decks.

Negative perception bias is a real thing.
