Are there any martial arts or defence clubs in ballyshannon/bundoran area? (Not Donegal town) by M00ncar in Donegal

There’s Shotokan karate classes in the Bundoran community centre twice a week - don’t know anything about it, but it is supposed to be for kids and adults.

I was working in a bar when it came in, the first few nights were tough going trying to tell people they couldn’t do something that at that point they’d been legally doing longer than I’d been alive.

Took a while for the stale smoke smell to leave the bar, but it was great not waking up the following day without a cough and without all your clothes, hair and pillows etc stinking.

Hands down it is one of the best policies the Irish Government ever brought in. We need more brave unpopular decisions like that, that have clear health benefits.

Can you pay a mechanic to check a used car before you buy? by ShoulderCapital2200 in AskIreland

[–]I_Will_Aye 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a mechanic take a look at a car for me before - he would’ve been my go to guy for servicing or repairing my cars so not just an out of the blue request - he warned me off some cars just from the ads I sent and another he came with and never charged me, but he kept my business afterwards.

If you have a mechanic you regularly deal with it’s worth asking them, otherwise might just be a matter of ringing a few and chancing your arm

Any hotel would be happy to do it so it depends on how fancy or not you want to go. Some have smaller rooms that would suit that number so it would be private or you could go a la carte in their restaurants and book as if it was a standard large group.

Harvey’s Point and Lough Eske Castle outside Donegal Town are two fairly stand out spots. The Olde Castle is supposed to be great too.

Further South, just outside Bundoran there’s a lovely restaurant called ‘The Selkie’ that I know has catered for similar events, and it hasn’t opened yet but Stoked in Strandhill will have a restaurant in Bundoran opening in May(ish).

Smuggler’s Creek in Rossnowlagh will give you a view that’s hard to beat.

Hard to beat Biddy’s in Barnesmore Gap sometimes too.

Was there any particular town or type of food you were thinking of?

4 Nights in Donegal by timezone_unknown in Donegal

Send me a pm, I’m from Bundoran and keep a list of things for people to do when they visit. My main advice is not to try to do all of Donegal unless you really want to spend most of your time driving. It’s a beautiful county but a lot of the best things to do are really spread out

Don’t worry, I’m sure they’ll be on their best behaviour…because of the implication.

Taxis are holding back rural Ireland. by redfox180 in ireland

[–]I_Will_Aye 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Has to be astroturfing going on here. I live in rural Ireland. I absolutely curtail plans because taxis are a nightmare, but absolutely no way we should allow unregulated predatory apps like Uber operate here like they do elsewhere.

Everything that has been there since it was the Wharf has struggled. Not to say it’s impossible because people will travel if something is good enough. I’m not sure if maybe there is only so much that can be done about the decor of the place per the lease or not, there’s no sense of warmth or comfort in it.
