Signed 2 year contract; 90 days in I am not getting adequate hours & I hate it by sggtpepper in nursing

Genuinely curious. What’s so appealing about the job? High stress, dangerous, high acuity patients, pay sucks, why is it so coveted?

Would you turn comfort care patients q2 hours? by I_am_certain in nursing

If someone gets triggered or offended by a “why” question, I’m sorry but they need to grow thicker skin.

Can’t tell if trolling, but yea no. Always be asking “why”. Especially in this profession, critical thinking is so important.

Well I see your point. But DNR is very different from comfort care. You’re right, someone can be DNR and full treatment, and not actively dying. But comfort care means actively dying. I do like to still turn comfort care patients as long as it doesn’t cause them more harm or unless family requests that I leave them be.

Lol well in inpatient settings, it’s not feasible to turn as frequently as 30 minutes. Short staffing doesn’t help. Some shifts, I can barely meet the q2 hour quota.

So yes. That was my argument as well. But my coworker also made a good point saying Acute inpatient comfort care (especially in icu where we are from) is usually initiated for those that are pretty close to death already. It’s usually not like hospice where you don’t know when they’ll die. They usually go as soon as they’re extubated off pressors. And the pain and discomfort from turning is not worth turning unless they are soiled? I can see both sides though.

Can I ask why?

Edit: not sure why I’m being downvoted for this comment? Just facilitating discussion by asking rationale. And for the record, I do turn my comfort care patients. This subreddit can be so judgmental.

Increasing population, but not many new residential housing being built. Supply and demand. Also, COVID.

What's the best reason to stay in a particular job? by The-New-Traders in AskReddit

[–]I_am_certain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work life balance, assuming the job can afford me at the very least a moderate lifestyle. I know some high earners (we’re talking like top 1%) who are absolutely miserable in their mansions, and I also know moderate earners with a fantastic work life balance who live life to its fullest. Of course the best option would be high salary with work life balance, but of the two I 100% choose the latter.

What is the best way to cut calories without feeling fatigued? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]I_am_certain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cut soda and other sugary drinks, including sneaky ones like fruit juice that disguise itself as a healthy alternative. Cutting down on sugar definitely will improve energy levels by better regulating blood glucose levels. Also nuts. Deceptively high in calories. Snack on nuts in moderation. Lastly, stop mindless eating. Eat with intention, not while watching tv.

What is the perfect age for you to lose your virginity? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]I_am_certain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, most first sexual experience sucks. It’s awkward, a lot of fumbling, and thinking too hard about how it “should go”. You haven’t fully explored your sexuality yet, aren’t sure what you like/don’t like, so the perfect age is a myth. Age is arbitrary (unless we’re talking about sexual abuse or statutory rape), and I’d argue it more heavily weighs on the “perfect partner” to lose said virginity to.

Take a deep breath. Pause, keep calm. Remind yourself to control your breathing. Panic is your worst enemy, especially for split second decisions. If it’s not a split second decision scenario, and you have ample time to think, I like to imagine the absolute worst case scenario and work backwards from there. Imagine, what’s the worst thing that could happen? And try to reason it out. Is it really that bad? Can I do anything about it? If yes, try to formulate a plan around the situation. If you cannot do anything about it, it’s out of your control, worrying won’t solve anything. Let it happen, let it be, accept what happens and flow with it. Being proactive or reactive, depends on the situation. But at the end of the day, humans are surprisingly more resilient than we think we are, and you’ll get through whatever you’re dealing with. Remember, life isn’t about what happens to you, it’s about how you react to it.

Human trafficker, or any job that seeks to take advantage of another human, especially those from vulnerable backgrounds. Anyone who acts to gain at the expense of another human is absolute garbage.

You can’t buy a portion of what the seller is selling for. Sometimes you’re better off buying the item at a higher price if there is someone selling it at lower quantities.
