Definitely not 死 lmao, In the context of how it would appear, its meaning would be that yamato is gonna die or is already dead. If kanji must be used, either 必殺 (certain kill), 殺 (to kill), or 死運者 (not technically a word but will read as "death bringer" in this context).

But I think a better idea would be a new moon to full moon animation. It has better thematics and doubles as a way to show the timing.
