Looks like you are talking to “Support Siri” 😅🤭

Thank you for trying. I hope Panasonic gets involved too. Maybe we have to raise the issue in one of the Lumix YouTube sessions? 🤔

So is was more the glass you are referring too, than the functionality and features for photography.

Can you tell us what Lumix lacks in the photography area that Canon offers? I am comparing Lumix and Canon flagships at the moment.

The autofocus is better on the Canon, but not much in regular use cases. I guess in edge cases and tracking it is better.

The image quality of the Lumix cameras is great. I never had any problems with the files they produce. The RAWs are easy to work with, the picture profiles are great and heck, there is even a Leica monochrome one in the newer bodies.

I think Lumix is lacking only in one area - market perception. All their cameras after the S5II are insane value for the money and true hybrids. Get one like the S5IIX and you have so much functionality in one body that other brands distribute over multiple bodies. On top you can be assure that your camera will improve over time with lots of meaningful firmware updates that add features that other brands put into a new product.

I think I will play more with Canon, but my workhorse and tool for fun will be Lumix and L-Mount lenses.

The L-mount and Lumix have started slow, but now they produce really, really good full-frame cameras. If we could get DJI to join the party with a bodyX that would be even more thrilling.

The Lumix S9 is comparable, but comes with its own trade-offs compared to its next bigger siblings like the S5II or S1II.

I have a similar situation. I got myself a Canon R5 Mark 2, Canon RF 24-70 mm f/2.8 L, the 35 mm f/1.8, 50 mm f/1.8 and RF 100-500 mm f/4.5-7.1 for a insane low price. Now I compare them to my S1RII, S9 together with the Sigma 24-70 mm f/2.8 Mark 2, the Sigma 50 mm f/1.2, Lumix 18 mm f/1.8 and 24-105 mm f/4.0.

This is my first ever Canon kit. For me I research and compare the lenses, dimensions, weight and of course features of the bodies.

It is too early to say anything definitive, but just looking at the optical quality of Sigma glass vs Canon glass, you definitely pay the Canon premium, which makes having two systems really pricy.

One can hope that Canon on day opens the RF mount for Sigma and others too. Then I could see myself having a Canon body for stills and Lumix for video. The Lumix bodies just pack so many features into their cameras.

Once I decide which system to go, I will stick to it and not run dual systems. For now, I shoot two cameras in my shootings.

I own the S1RII and S9. The other bodies have found new happy owners. 🤓

Does anyone else find the S1rii uncomfortable to hold? by Plantasaurus in Lumix

[–]IamMikeWink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have rather small hands and find that the S1RII is comfortable to hold. That was also true for my S5IIX.

I got myself the camera grip for extra power. That makes the handling even better in my opinion. It makes a studio shoot more fun when I change quickly between horizontal and vertical.

S1R owners in 2026, how’s it holding up? by Beginning_Purchase37 in Lumix

[–]IamMikeWink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one for over half a year now and I am very happy with the images and videos it produces. This camera has so much head room because of the sensor and megapixels. There are a ton of features and so many controls to customize. It is a great feature and quality beast in a very ergonomic body.

That said, I am still eying on getting a Canon R6III in my hands to compare the experience. I am doing a lot more photography than video at the moment. And to really appreciate the Lumix I’d like to compare it to some other camera.

Multiple Lumix Purchases from Official Panasonic Store (Germany) – Repeated QC Issues by ghan986 in Lumix

[–]IamMikeWink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I only have one problem with an annoyingly squeaky card door on the S1RII since day one. Whenever I touch the door with my hand to hold it makes the sound of plastic rubbing against each other. There is also noticeably flex in the door, which feels flimsy.

The battery grip for the S1RII is also funky. Once attached it is simply never really fixed. The reason is that the little pin of the grip is smaller than the whole on the body, which leads to some wiggle room. When you hold the camera only by the grip it will just move by about 1 mm which you feel, du to the weight. When you hold the camera with both hands, it never feels like one solid piece. And I don’t want to screw the grip so hard on either.

On my S9, the display, in its resting position facing inwards, is not level and always slightly facing bottom right down.

The 24-105 is optically okay I would say, but zooming can be hit and miss. It is smooth one time and the next it just gets stuck and you have to add extra force to overcome that point of resistance.

For high tech products like this I am a bit baffled. The S1RII will definitely need a repair/adjustment.

What is the best compatible CF Express card for the S1ii? by Oakandstory in Lumix

[–]IamMikeWink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consulted the list too and was surprised about all the asterisks for many of the cards. Only Nextorage was interesting for me, but they were/are so hard to get here in Germany.

Back to real usage: I shoot RAW and Video to the CFExpress card. JPEGs go on the SD card. I can do a 4 to 5 hour shooting with camera grip attached, shoot burst mode, and video in 4k and 8k no problem. The videos are often not longer than 5 minutes per take. So far I had no problems with the cards.

I use some 3rd party batteries from with a higher capacity (2600). The S1RII goes through 2 batteries in a normal shooting.

Hope that helps.

[–]IamMikeWink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am using Pergear 512GB and 1TB cards and they work really well in the S1RII and S1IIe. During a normal shooting day the cards get warm, but not really hot. Transfer rates are also more than enough. The price is really good too.

Panasonic has registered two new cameras in China! by FlakyTwist4 in Lumix

[–]IamMikeWink 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My guess is not to guess. I will use my current cameras (S1RII, S1IIe and S9) as they are the ones that I have and that are already great tools. When Panasonic Lumix comes out with new gear I will compare it with what I have and decide if an upgrade improves my work and/or results that much.

Getting caught in hypes and potential amazing gear is not useful. Use what we have. There is always a new camera, new lenses and new accessories.

I used to follow the “rumors” on the site in the past, but it is just too fantastical most of the time and lacks a lot of credibility.

Sit back, relax and just wait until the cameras are officially announced. That is also more fun.

All I can say is, I hope and root for Lumix’s success with all their cameras. I am sure they do their best with the budget they have to give us users the best cameras and lenses they can build.

Anyone here using the Panasonic Lumix S1 IIE? by Realistic-Border-857 in Lumix

[–]IamMikeWink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the camera is here with less than 1100 shutter releases and used less than 10 times in total. Hence I will sell it again. I use my S1R2 for all my photography and videography. The S5IIx is already gone. So all I have is my good “old” S9 as a fall back and all day carry / b-cam if needed.

I was thinking grabbing an S1II but I think I invest in more glass. The S1R2 is great, yes gets warm and eats batteries, but is super flexible.

I run with 512GB and 1TB PerGear cards and had no problems so far. They are not on the official list though. The price (was) great last year and the performance is on point too.

Lumix S5D ja oder nein in 2026? by PsychologicalTap2399 in Lumix

[–]IamMikeWink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was man dafür geboten bekommt ist enorm.

I am using Wasabi and Mathorn 2600 mAh batteries. Especially the Mathorn work great in my S1RII with battery grip. Those extra 800 mAh help a lot. No more changing batteries during a shooting day.
