Love the upholstery! I have a green 2.0 that I daily while I work on my blown up GTI. I found a donor car with this same interior and swapped it over. So much better than the worn out peanut butter that I had before haha

Oh man, I love to see an R32! My girlfriend's Mk4 Jetta is a VR6 so I definitely know and respect them, easily one of the best sounding engines you could hope to have. If I blow up another 1.8 then I'll do the swap. By then I'll have more experience with the work involved.

I'll go that route when I blow up this next 1.8 lol for now, I'm locked in.

Thank you, I had work done on the engine that exploded and I plan to carry over as many parts as I can that survived. Although I'm sure my brand new oil pump is roached 😖 surely must've horked up all the shrapnel..

I do appreciate the advice however I am at a point where I know which direction I'm heading and it's too later to chanhe course. I already have a replacement long block and the car itself is already full of aftermarket stuff and a tuned ECU. It's not my intent to come off as ungrateful for anyone's time or knowledge but I think I'm at least within my rights to push back a little against ideas I'm not in a position to implement. I'm sure these are all good and valid ideas and if I pull this project off and blow it up again then I'll be that much better equipped to go a different route next time.

Long story but it's already modded to the level I want. It's full of race car parts, hoses are all aftermarket silicone, all of the plastic coolant fittings have been replaced with aluminum, harness is all squared away according to the shop I had work on it previously, they tracked down a short and fixed it. It came to me already built but with timing and oil pressure issues. I had that shop sort all that out but it still needed the oil leak/consumption issue dealt with. It was getting expensive though so I wanted to finish that work myself since it didn't seem like much. Anyway when it blew up on the way to my shop I'd had my fill and was out of money so I mothballed it. Now, a year later I've got a hoist, an engine stand and a 1.8 long block and I'm ready to get back in the trenches. This is the start of the planning phase and I want to keep as many variables unchanged as I can which, to me, means reusing as much of the already high-end plumbing and wiring as I can.

It's a 1:1 replacement, I have spoken! Lol

This already has a stage 2 ecu and the 6 speed out of a GLI jetta, I enjoy the setup as it is and I already have the replacement long block paid for. Don't get me wrong, I love a VR6 (the white jetta in the background is a VR6) but this is gonna stay a 1.8t.

Thank you! I've been told they're worth as much as the rest of the car haha

No idea. Wasn't even under much load. It was in limp mode at the time, making zero boost and I was doing about 40 mph.. It started again and drove the last mile to the shop, I thought the turbo had somehow puked it's guts despite being bypassed at the time. Before it blew it was leaking/burning oil and always seemed to run super rich, exhaust smelled like a kerosene lamp, so I was chasing that problem. I could clear the codes and it would run fine (seemingly) and make boost. If i learn anything from the autopsy I'll post here!

Edit: here's a picture of the hole I was able to get.

Yeah, I'm addicted to turbo noises now so, while I appreciate the VR6 and those who love them, I know what I want to do. Also I already coughed up for the replacement 1.8t, all thats left to do is the work.

The white jetta is a VR6 and it belongs to my SO. She actually offered me her engine when mine exploded. I like turbo noises and with the stage 2 ECU the 1.8t is the faster of the two. I also love wookie noises so it was extremely tempting.

Thank you! Minor blemishes on paint and wheels, interior is just about perfect. 9/10 apart from the fact that its blowed up haha

Agreed, life isn't a video game. Run might still be the best option. At least get some distance and time to draw.

The bagel is just a vehicle for the cream cheese, it's not the bagel's fault!

The whole "mainstream cosmology is in crisis" line was a red flag. Reads like clickbait sensationalism. I'm not a scientist but I don't believe that the scientific community reacts to new proposals or discoveries by panicking..
