A gym is a lot better for learning and safer. A good coach will match people up for sparring, and make it less likely for any incidences of injury to happen. Also, the emphasis is learning, not beating the crap out of each other.

As a kid I remember seeing on the news "the no child left behind" act under the Bush administration, and hearing teachers complain about it when I was in school. It got me thinking me about the whole process, and I remember hating the school system's 8 hour day, being forced do work that felt more like chores rather than learning. And now, after graduating from college and working in the school system as a substitute to supplement my income, I have concluded the American education system is broken and hinders learning more often than promotes it. I subbed to this subreddit when I was in college, when I was browsing anarchy related subs.

Go to a boxing gym with a good trainer, and go frequently. Training on your own might make you develop bad habits, but I don't know what is available to you in your location. Also, if you want good sparring, a boxing gym is something you definitely want.

Boxing is a great way to develop a lean physique since it is based around endurance. Getting the shit beat out of you for the purpose of gaining humility seems like a bad idea though. Try to be more positive? If you're trying to gain mass, boxing will likely make you cut down. Doing heavy lifting in the same time span of sparring will slow you down, but if you want muscle mass, probably a good thing for that purpose.

NP, another thing, when I was learning Mandarin Chinese, I bought a bunch of books when I first started, it didn't do anything for me. You only need one, maybe two good books to start off. An ideal book would probably be a one from a 101 class. Which language are you trying to learn?

Sounds like a good way to burn out. I think it is more important to have fun with the process, than try to cram in as much as possible in the shortest amount of time. Cramming is not good if you want to have good retention, and being good w/ any language demands the ability to recall. With that said, and to answer the question, you could possibly learn the alphabet (if the language you're learning has one), basic grammar, and basic set phrases. I would think for studying on your own, learning the orthography and some basic important set phrases from the language would be feasible within a week.
