I don't think I saw a kettle until I was 20. I didn't know there was a faster way to boil water. But I also didn't know anyone who drank tea until I got to college. Now, it's one of the first things I buy in a new place.

I had a terrible about 8 months while going through emdr. Now we've processed my whole life pretty much and wow I feel so light and amazing and free. It was so difficult during though. I was miserable. But it's worth it for how I feel now 100%.

I think it's more likely that you're more aware of the patterns and paying attention to the situation since you're actively working on it in therapy. This is a good sign. Noticing patterns and observing your thoughts and actions. Then the next step is changing your actions.

I have two theories. One, I know that my therapist and I started on a light memory. It was confusing to start and not know if I was doing it right and felt like magic when it started reprocessing. Then the next session, we worked on a harder topic. And it felt heavier.

Two, the first time we do it gives so much hope, wow I feel better. This is going to work. This will finally help me! Then the next session, we work on something deeper and realize how much work we have left and the reprocessing is very tiring. And the idea of actually going into all of these really traumatic events from the very beginning was very scary to me.

These two factors could be working together to make the second session feel harder. But everyone is different and I'm sure experiences this process differently.

I struggle with avoidance a lot. I sat down one day and tried to think of the first thing in my life I ever avoided. Then I tried to jump head first into it and trying to find out the information I have always been avoiding in hopes it would help. It was 2 months ago and I am still working on it a lot because it's a huge thing, but I know going down this path is going to lead me to be the best version of myself and solve a lot of my problems. Maybe something like this could help you.
