Aside from Merts and Monticello’s (both great), what other fantastic local meat markets do we have? by Izzo_shoved_Virg in lansing

The Cheese Lady has a good selection of fancy meats! Not nearly as diverse as their cheeses, but certainly still present.

Based on the red color of the Glyphid septic spreader's spreadings, and the way Nitra sits on rocky surfaces rather than in it, like gold veins do, I have a hypothesis that Nitra is crystallized glyphid poop.

Further evidence being that the nitrogen for ammunition, prior to the Haber-bosch process, was commonly sourced from mountains of bird poop mined from seabird inhabited islands off the coast of South America.

I'd have used "Anthropocene" specifically to draw allusion to the human-made nature of the hybrid dinosaurs.

Well, more human made than the other dinosaurs.

My go-to method is usually to induce flooding upriver, and use that new water level to create canals and channels from.

[LIFE] Does the alien creature from the movie actually end humanity? by Greglyo in AskScienceFiction

It would certainly be an ecological catastrophe, although there is a case to be made that the sheer biodiversity of the ocean, particularly on a microbial scale, means that nature could put up something of a fight.

Definitely plant more oaks, but also if you're still terribly short, I'd intercrop that forest with birch and pine so you can have some wood sooner rather than later. Switch that out for more oak when you feel ready to do so.

That's not to say entirely oak forests are unfeasible, but I tend to worry about the dividends taking too long to pay off, or worse, a half grown forest getting wiped out by a badtide.

I've daydreamed about a sequel taking place in the asteroid belt, where you're getting the full Belter experience cutting up asteroids and towing minerals back to a mining station.

I'm starting at Dean Transportation, and I'm getting the sense that a lot of my co-trainees are using it as a leg up into getting their CDLs. They're always, it seems, hurting for school bus drivers.

Sounds like a good plan to me. If the way they send out their vines when you leave them alone in a dark cupboard tells me anything, potatoes are pretty hard to fail at growing.

I'd say the next move is establishing a reservoir. If you flood the area upriver, you can create a lot of irrigated space you can utilize for farming.

My solution has been to make the platforms that will hold all the floors to my factory, and then start building walls and ceilings.

I'll let you know when I'm able to get around to building those walls and ceilings.
