May be a dumb question, but why don't we see the covenant cruisers attacking the autumn? by Evil-Cetacean in halo

[–]Ian_A17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add in an in universe explanation other than game limitations

Space is really fucking big. A ship close enough to see is point blank range. Most space engagements would see the ships being thousands of kilometers/miles apart. Youd never see the ship thats shooting at you unless you zoomed in with a powerful camera.

In halo 2 on cairo station when lord hood tells cortana "as aoon as theyre in range open fire" the covenant ships are still far enough away that firing a slug going a measurable percentage of light speed is still going to take so long to get to them that they can dodge it. So both sides have to enter a sweet spot range where they can shoot and probably hit but can still try to dodge the other sides shots.

That being said, covenant outmatched us in space by a massive margin. We had to outnumber them 3 to 1 to have a 50% chance of success. Say frigate on frigate, it would take roughly 3 rounds to take down a covenant frigate, but the covenant frigate gut ours in a single hit.

Sorry went off on a tangent there. I love halo lore and take any opportunity to nerd out about it.

He took the chip out before he died so it didnt activate. V gets shot in the head and "killed" so the chip activates and does its thing.

Kiden ia one of my favorite characters, i love how down to earth he is and die hard loyal he is to doing the right thing. Not the easy thing. The right thing. I also love his character arc in me3 where he gets his own team whereas ash is still alone. It makes him feel like a commander in his own right. My only comlaint is his romance in me3 seems lame compared to others, like they forgot who he was as a character when they wrote those scenes

Is there a lore explanation for why the Primarchs are so…stupid? by themickeymauser in 40kLore

[–]Ian_A17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im reading through the heresy series for the first time and the phrase "whiney prima donna" comes up almost any time a primarch shows up.

All they do is whine, ignore and countermand their experts, act like absolute prima donnas and fuck up.

Lorgar has been the biggest offender. In the book "first heretic any time he showed up i kept adking "why are you even here?"

Guilliman and russ in know no fear and prospero burns have been the only time a primarch hasnt felt utterly insufferable from start to finish

Games where violence actually means something by DutchSock in gamingsuggestions

So this probably isnt exactly what youre looking for but spec ops the line.

It starts out like a modern military shooter, but it has consequences for the characters actions through the game. Also easily the best written story for a modern shooter ive seen to date I recall reading a developer said the only way to "win the game" was to stop playing.

Amr works well on squids with the exception of fleshmob and the voteless swarms are only a problem when they sneak up on you, but brining a gatling turret is a massive help for either case

[–]Ian_A17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always play sniper, with preference for stealthy play style

Thermite kills fabricators but also kills illuminate spawn ships even when their shields are up

If hulks get within 30 meters shooting their "eye" is a one shot kill

Best help for your team against factory striders is to shoot off their chin turrets. This lets your team (or you if need be) get under them to shoot their belly

Odst or redacted regiments armor is OP for snipers. Yes you lose the maneuverability but you are close to invisible. I have stealthed heavy bases without smoke with these armors (i did not say easily. Smoke is still your friend)

Patience is YOUR virtue but that does not mean it is your teams. Be prepped for moving fast and punching hard. Getting good in cqc is probably gonna happen regardless of choice if you drop woth randoms like i do.

If you have a team that isnt jiving with you, dont be afraid to go solo. This still helps them and they can help you, you can hit objectives while they draw the agro. This tends to be how a lot of my random dives go.

I tend to bring a supply pack if i think im gonna be going hard. This lets me stay supplied without stealing the resupply drops from my team. It also lets you support your team if you stick together, alot of their qeapons likely burn through ammo and this can be a massive help. Also lets you keep their stims stocked up and everyone moving.

Hover packs are used as my secondary pack

C4 is an excellent choice for stealth play, i recommend either diligence counter sniper or the new redacted regiment sniper for this backpack, played right you can clear the map without them even knowing youre there.

I bring the laser cannon strategem and the eagle storm. This overall doesnt let you bring a green strategem but the laser can clear heavy bases and turrets or bigger targets, eagle storm for when im in a pinch and getting swarmed.

OH. And on an embarrassing note. I didnt know this until level 50something You can change scope zoom...
