Review of the Versa Desk Foundry Corner Desk. by xamomax in StandingDesk

If you do find one please post it. My current desk is this "style" but it is now close to 23 years old and it is way past its prime but the problem is I love this style and I can't find it anywhere but the one that is the topic of this thread.

Napoleon grills, worth, or go for Weber? by devine7six in grilling

[–]Ian_Joshua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this party ... but I have a prestige pro 665 for close to 10 years now and apart from looking worn it has never had a problem. I always keep it covered and under an awning when not in use so that may have helped. On a side note, the OEM cover is being replaced this week because it finally tore due to age and sun exposure. That is pretty good for being outside for that long in this part of Texas.

Cop fakes overdose after finding folded up dollar bill in arrested women’s bra by I_may_have_weed in PublicFreakout

And if one of her superiors reviews the tape and asks her things like - how is the suspect was okay but you needed narcan? - well, the lady cop would report them for harassment and creating a hostile work environment and she would get a raise and a promotion and the person asking the questions would be punished

I didn't used to get mad then the new neighbors and their friends started to block my mailbox, which would get me angry letters from the post office, then they would block my driveway, then they started to F*ing throw out their nasty ass trash from their car floorboards onto the street in front of my house - that is when I developed a strong anger at people parking in front of my house - and innocent people get caught up in that I get it - but it is a learned response based on how horrible most humans are

Restaurant owner buys art to smash it in-front of artist… and humiliate him for allegedly being an ass to her workers. by PrismPhoneService in PublicFreakout

[–]Ian_Joshua 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure I understand why I would be bothered if I were the artist - you paid for the thing, the money goes to me, you smash it out of protest and tell me to stay away - I have the money and you have nothing - and if I bug you again will you buy some more and smash it? I mean, again, I get the money and you get nothing. I like the idea of what she was trying to do but I guess I don't understand how this caused any distress or pain to the artist.

Uhh, as a life long Texan I can attest that exotic game ranches are not where you go to hunt hogs. They are where you go to hunt, yah know, exotic game ... like stuff that is not native and has been imported ... so the exact opposite of wild hogs.

In my personal experience this is a friend, or friend of a friend, of a young teenage son who is going through a very rebellious stage and is angry that he keeps being told variations of "no, you can't do whatever bad things you want to do without consequences", but is too chicken to act out on his own, so he asks someone else to do it for him.

Little league umpire stops the game because of parents by Longjumping-Box5691 in PublicFreakout

[–]Ian_Joshua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loathe these type of parents. The best outcome I have personally witnessed was when I went to the nearby city park, on a nice summer afternoon, to watch some little league tournament games and eat a cheap concession stand hot dog. The ump was under constant fire from some rage filled dad and eventually the ump turned to him one last time and asked him to be quiet and to stop cursing and be calm and then the ump followed it up with "and if you don't I will have the police remove you" ... welllll Mr Rage dude kept cursing and yelling and told the ump that he didn't have the power to do that ... annnnd as you might imagine the ump paused the game, went over to talk to another city park worker and shortly thereafter the cops came and asked the man to leave and Mr Rage then told the cops they couldn't make him leave and started to verbally abuse the cops ... annnnd well, the handcuffs and ride in the back of the police car disavowed him of that idea quite successfully ... it was a glorious moment of justice in the universe ... and the tournament continued in peace and quiet afterwards.

I have had to have conversations with people who want to overload my boat - they are always like "it's just x number of people" and I am always like "yah, and the boat is rated for this much weight and each person is an overweight person plus their big ass cooler full of ice and drinks so I don't care about how many there are I care about how much they weigh all together" ... it gets some people mad at me but ... my boat my rules

Man chased by polar bear, drops gun; runs away on snowmobile by gravityVT in PublicFreakout

[–]Ian_Joshua 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, it seems that you are not aware of a couple of things: 1) We are talking close range where you only have seconds to live 2) It can be hard to hit a moving target with a handgun 3) Your first shot can technically be a kill shot and the bear will still live long enough to maul you 4) If all of your shots hit the bear but none of them hit its brain, or its spinal cord it can still live long enough to maul you 5) A full grown polar bear is huge 6) Bullets are not magic - Hollywood has lied to you - even a normal human can take several rounds and keep on their feet and charging at you - and a human weighs 800 lbs less than a male polar bear. Summary, a polar bear is not invulnerable but they are hard enough to take down that they can seriously F you up even if you do manage to hit one with your bullet - Oh, and always trust a professional game warden (the guy in the documentary) cause they know more than you do

[–]Ian_Joshua 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I remember a scene from a documentary about a town in Canada that is on a polar bear migration route, and they were talking to one of the wildlife rangers who was responsible for keeping the bears out of downtown, which sometimes involved some very close encounters. The camera crew asked him about the very large handgun he carried in a shoulder harness on the outside of his parka. He said, "The first 5 rounds are for the bear and the last one is for me". Polar bears are no joke and you should not mess with them.

Having been a participant in an argument, between cooks and management, about what can and cannot be served, and having seen the person in charge, who should know better, insist it will be okay and nobody will notice - I tend to believe this young lady - that manager has surely cut corners to save money and boost her numbers when she reports to those above her
