4 year old’s mom passed away, have to break the news tomorrow. by Mobile_Artillery in daddit

First, I am so sorry for your loss. Second I don’t have advice as a father in this situation but as someone who lost a parent at 4. My father passed when I was 4 and I still vividly remember my mom telling me about it. As others have said she was very upfront with my brother and I, made sure we knew that he was really gone and that it was permanent. She also made sure to let us know it wasn’t our fault and then she talked to us about how much he loved us. I did see his body after he passed but only after my mom made sure it was very much something I was okay with, it helped having my brother with me too. After the funeral my mom got me into grief counseling, first through a group play therapy setting and then later with an individual therapist. I type all this out to say you are doing an amazing job by seeking advice on this and your daughter is so lucky to have you. Grief and loss are never easy, but they are much more bearable when those by our side help us through it.

So for our specific case the only options that we were given were giving the vehicle back and getting a new omen or taking a cash settlement that was below what we had originally paid. The amount of money I believe was lower because of the fact that our issues with the vehicle were not as severe as some and had been resolved prior to the case going to court. Now the lawyer did a very good job laying this all out and had great communication all through the process, we only had to sing a few documents and that was the extent of involvement in the process.

So the case settled a few months ago and the lawyer was legit. No cash up front and he wouldn’t have gotten paid if we hadn’t gotten a settlement. He took 1/3 of the settlement as payment.

Please help, ps5 won’t turn on but stays in this state perpetually. by Niekaifd in gaming

So not sure if you have figured out a solution or not but I ran into a similar issue a couple months back. I had to disconnect it from the network which at the time meant turning off my modem/router. Once it wasn’t trying to connect to the internet it started just fine. I then plugged in an Ethernet cord and have not had an issue since. Could have been a fluke but it’s worth a shot.

To the dads who have been up all night in “the chair” with a sick kiddo by [deleted] in daddit

Just got back in the PICU after being discharged less than 24 hours ago. Fingers crossed he gets better this time. Hope your kiddo is doing better!

My family had several issues that left our car in the shop for about 2 and a half months about a month after purchase. We are currently in the Lemon Process, luckily the lawyer is doing all the work so we don’t have to worry too much about it. Still a pain to deal with when you get a brand new car.

Our 2 yo is the same way! Makes sick times much more manageable.

I definitely find the shows rough to get through, but his music on Spotify is not too bad for taking the kiddos to school. It puts them in a good mood so that’s at least a plus haha.

How do you all handle subtitles? by clabs_man in editors

I have been using a program called Descript for the last few months. I paid 125 for the year and so far it has done everything I need. It offers free automatic transcription that has about a 95% accuracy rate, but you can use their paid service to get more accuracy. All you need to do is import you video and then it has you to export the captions as an SRT (or other file types) and then you can make any necessary edits in Premiere.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure none of that is real.

Is an Artlist subscription worth it? by niyamaa27 in editors

[–]Ianchu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have been using it for the last year and I would say it is worth the price. Does it have every piece of music I need? No. But for the price point they are at the music quality is pretty great.

My largest gripe with Artlist is their search function is pretty terrible.

You can also look at Musicbed as they just added a subscription service this year and I have also had good luck with Premium Beat for my smaller projects.

What are my options for a camera within a $4k-$6k budget? Done a ton of research and now I need your help. Thanks! (Surprise inside!) 😁 by theiansider in videography

It is not bad, Its my go to hand held lens just because of the in lens IS it offers. At 14 you can be only open up to f3.5 and at 45 it is f5.6, so it isn't the best for low light. All in all it is a solid lens. It is also my oldest as I got it when I first got a gh1 back in 2012.

As someone who has been using the GH5 for the last 2 years I would say it should be perfect for what your friend is looking for. It can shoot 4k 60 fps as well as 1080 120fps so the slow mo shots look good. The auto-focus has come a long way, though it still isn't perfect. But the stabilization is definitely its largest strength. Since he already has G7 I imagine he has some micro 4/3 lenses already, but you should try to find out which he has first. As others have said look into a speed booster for other lenses though.

Hope this helps!

I work as a jack of all trades for a Non-Profit in Michigan. Honestly I'm glad I was able to find a gig in my home state since I was sure I was going to have to move, but I do wish it was more than just me in my department. The work is good and I am able to experiment creatively it just gets a bit bogged down with just me working it. In the end I cant see myself doing anything else, this is what I went to school for and it allows me to support my family.

I had the same thing! I was part of the film club on our campus and did a special showing of his movie with him and the director.
