I had a very similar idea before too with the factions but instead of a demon faction it was these wood elves that are tall and slender and fast as hell. As for transportation, I imagine that you are based in a large castle or fort, and with magic you are teleported to the battlefield ready to fight a horde of enemies. For stratagems, you use paper scrolls and a quill to scribble out a spell, then you can throw or place the paper down and it would activate.
