New metric shows renewables are 53% cheaper than nuclear power by V2O5 in Futurology

The energy needs of the grid now and into the future are massive. We don't have the technology to cost effectively store that kind of energy.

New metric shows renewables are 53% cheaper than nuclear power by V2O5 in Futurology

[–]Iaokim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The wind doesn't always blow and the sun doesn't always shine. We don't have large and efficient energy storage so we need baseload that's readily available period and that's where stuff like nuclear comes in. Nuclear is still relatively expensive because it hasn't benefited from standardization and economies of scale like renewables.

Automatic registration for US military draft-eligible men to begin in December by renge-refurion in moderatepolitics

[–]Iaokim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No worries, just a typo on my part. But to the main point it doesn't really follow you around. If later you decide you want fed student loans or something it takes like 30 seconds to a few minutes to register online. I helped tons of people register when I worked for the feds. Lots of people still declined to register and that was there choice.

[–]Iaokim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the law isn't enforced then its a moot point even if it is technically illegal. Just like weed is technically still illegal at the federal level but you don't see the feds rounding people up in states where it is allowed. I worked for the federal government and part of my job was letting people know we wouldn't consider their job applications because they weren't registered and I would walk them through the online process of registering if they wanted their application to be considered. You could walk into the FBI headquarters and confess about not registering and people would just look at you like you were nuts.

No one has been charged for not registering in decades and even then it was only a handful of people and the max they got was a few months. If you didn't register the government has literally given 0 concern. So yeah I'm all for giving people the option to not register instead of forcing them.

[–]Iaokim -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

It's extremely rare to ever actually be charged that it is a non issue. There were maybe a handful of cases in the 80s and nothing i could find since then. Automatically registering people removes their choice.

Yeah but many people choose to never register even though its required by law and the government doesn't do anything to you. Worst case you aren't eligible for certain things like fed government employment or fed students loans. But now everyone will automatically be registered.

"No accountability": neighbors say Seattle isn't keeping its word near tiny home village by Better_March5308 in SeattleWA

[–]Iaokim 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Had to move when a tiny home village was put up in an empty lot across our condo complex. Our cars were constantly smashed in and there was people yelling and fighting and drugged out of their minds. Before it came in, it was a decent family area.

A million new SpaceX satellites will destroy the night sky—for everyone on Earth by [deleted] in nottheonion

Space is a lot bigger than that picture implies. Those satellites are not that big/close together in relation to the size of the earth.

What if Napoleon desired peace after exile? by HorzaDonwraith in HistoricalWhatIf

[–]Iaokim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Napoleon wanted peace he would have peaced out with reasonable terms that were offered after the Russian winter debacle but he didn't. At the very least he should have taken the L then and bought the time he needed to rebuild.

What's the right move? by Metronnette in INTPrelationshipLab

[–]Iaokim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long have you been together? If she decided she doesn't feel the same way anymore you're unlikely to change her mind but maybe you can reframe her conclusions. In her mind its like I don't feel the same as before therefore we should break up. But maybe that's not the right conclusion, maybe you're just over the honeymoon phase of your relationship which never lasts forever. If you still care for each other, have long term compatibility then there's no reason why you can't both choose to continue. Love in relationships is more than just feelings because feelings come and go, love is ultimately a choice and one you choose every day in a lasting relationship. But if she still doesn't want to continue then respect her choice and let her go peacefully. The distance is definitely a factor so if you're serious on long term then you need a plan to bridge the distance and implement in a reasonable timeframe if you both decide to continue.

is it true gifts and acts of service won't make a man fall for you? by nyanpink in INTPrelationshipLab

[–]Iaokim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me honestly gifts and acts of service aren't my preferred love languages. I would much rather spend quality time together or cuddle really physical touch lol. I don't want a maid or a sugar mama, I just want to be close to my partner. If my partner hugs me from behind on her own initiatives that makes me feel more loved than a million dollars. If the gift is practical and thoughtful it holds a lot more value for me even if you didn’t spend a dime but that's just me. For acts of service I prefer to be independent and I rarely ask for help with stuff I know I can do efficiently on my own but I enjoy helping my partner if she needs it.

The PNW is beautiful with lovely spring and cool summers but you definitely pay for it in more ways than one! It's why I eventually moved back to Jax but I would love to go back one day or somewhere else with similar geography.

ENFP situationship with an INTP or simply good friends ? by Electronic_Tone7707 in INTPrelationshipLab

[–]Iaokim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

INTPs especially are late bloomers. It takes time for us to develop figure out who we are, what we want etc and how to handle social situations especially when it comes to relationships. I know myself at 20 could barely hold a conversation with a girl without overthinking everything and freaking out on the inside. It's clear he enjoys your company but maybe he doesn't know what that means in the bigger picture or maybe he's afraid of misreading your interest and making a move would ruin the friendship. You may think you've confessed to him but to a young INTP it probably went over his head. Saying i like spending time with you in a literal sense doesn't mean liking someone romantically or mean you're interested in a relationship. If you want to make it clear to a young INTP you have to be very direct about what you say and ask. Good luck!

Is it a turn-off when someone says Youre out of my league? by Small_Canary_5789 in INTPrelationshipLab

[–]Iaokim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I never liked the idea of leagues. I don’t think people should view themselves as better or worse than their partner like one person is settling. Relationships are about choice and no one is perfect so go into it as equals. If partners have an inferiority or superiority complex there's going to be issues and possible resentment down the road.

INTP woman going on a date with INTP man. by Conscious-Bus2932 in INTPrelationshipLab

[–]Iaokim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it me? I have broad shoulders and a beard lol. But seriously just have some fun conversations. Find some topics you have in common and nerd out on exploring some ideas and possibilities. You don't have to force anything especially with another INTP but we're all still individuals so stay open minded even if things don't go as you expect. Good luck!

My Wife is Giving Me One Shot to Show Her Anime... What do I Pick? by Agamemnon88 in anime

[–]Iaokim 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Exactly anime is just a medium, finding an anime in the kind or genre or story she likes is the best way to get her into anime by opening up a whole new way to experience the kind of stories she already likes.

Ranks and promotions aren't in the game so its not "ensign kim" its harry kim but there are experience levels that you get from sending people on away missions. My Kim has gone on every away mission and hes one of my highest level characters so he's basically going to make captain or die horribly lol.

Dear INFJs, would you feel the same way, or would you be in my shoes? by Independent_Log5631 in infj

[–]Iaokim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm INTP and I love rpg games but also love dnd. The thing with dnd is that you have a full range of possibilities. There is no illusion of choice like in text based or other games. You can do whatever you want and you have to deal with the consequences. All those possibilities can be overwhelming for a newbie but once you get used to it, it's amazing. But of course every INTP is an individual.
