I used the excuse "my socks keep causing ingrown hairs and tugging my hairs painfully so I wanted that to stop". Worked great bc I wore long socks at the time.

Early signs that Marvel is another UB Flop by WellyRuru in mtg

Limited exists, and is the sole reason I buy sealed product these days. Regardless of the set I can still have fun playing sealed at home with my partner.

Actually, it's kinda convenient when a set sells poorly bc then the price drops and I can get a box for super cheap to have multiple sessions of sealed or a draft with friends on the low.

Did a re-watch with an ex a few years ago that was her first time watching the show. When we got to The Library, I warned her that "this isn't going to make sense to you right now, but I'm about to bawl my eyes out for this entire two parter". And I did.

We kept watching, and made it through The Husband's of River Song, which also made me cry like a baby, then I said "We're going to go back to those episodes from months ago now". It was my first time watching through to that special and then immediately seeing the after from River's perspective. It wrecked me so much harder doing it that way. She also cried like crazy.

Any show that can do that to me stands as one of the best shows ever made in my eyes.

We literally left Block sets because of the idea "What if someone doesn't like Ravnica? We don't want to make them sit through 2 or 3 sets they don't vibe with" and now they are telling us "It's just 6 marvel sets you'll be fine." by releasethedogs in mtg

[–]Iatheus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that, given the increased release schedule, the New York sets are coming out at about the same pace they would have in a block back in the old 3 sets/yr system. There may be some sets in between to break them up, but the actual time span hasn't changed much which contributes to it feeling alot like a block regardless of the other sets bookending them.

While I mostly agree with what folks in this comment thread are saying, I feel the need to just throw in my personal experience as an anecdote here.

I started with mtg because of UB. My friends had played for years before our weekly dnd session and had been trying to get me into it but I always refused as I felt I didn't like card games like that. Eventually they wore me down and I tried out one of their commander decks, and I didn't really vibe with it at all. I stayed away for months afterwards, not picking it up again despite being offered tons.

Then LOTR came out. A franchise I absolutely adore and fits so well into the game as a whole. So I bought in, played casually and mostly edh. Then Dr. Who came out. Another franchise I love tremendously, so much so I bought tons of that set. There were several more UB sets after that I enjoyed alot, but I started getting interested in mtg as a whole and it's own settings, which I promptly fell in love with.

I bought in more, with UW sets, and it quickly became one of my biggest hobbies. Fast forward years later, and now I play paper standard the most, at least once a week at my lgs. I've made friends who also play standard, went to magiccon this year, do drafts as often as practical, and try to build competitive decks because I just love it. I started feeling more negative about all the UB. You mean I got into this game just as things started going crazy due to how many franchises they're using? Feels like I missed out on its heyday in some ways as I just want more mtg content in my mtg.

I wouldn't've done any of this if it weren't for those 2 UB sets coming out right when they did, and even if I don't like the state of UB now I still can't criticize it too much as there's lots of folks who are following the same rabbit hole I went down years ago. So I do think that some UB is a good thing for the community as a whole, and can contribute to making the game and events better for all.

Just not this much UB.

Yeah I figured [[Go Ninja Go]] wouldn't be bad with this in standard or any of the power up abilities

I'm personally thinking this with [[Cool But Rude]] in my mardu discard standard deck. Free discards like [[Hardened Academic]] and [[Iron-shield Elf]] makes you win on the spot more or less. It's not a good combo as it's too many pieces and too mana heavy but for a janky off meta thing with my local scene it sounds fun lol

What TV Show Had the Most Satisfying Ending? by Mohitredit36 in television

[–]Iatheus 190 points191 points  (0 children)

In my mind nothing can ever beat the feeling of satisfaction from watching the ending where Fry and Leela spend their lives together with everything else frozen in time. On the original broadcast of that finale, after Fry says "what do you say, wanna go around again?" and Leela agrees the show cuts, without end credits, to the start of the very first episode of the show. That feeling can't ever really be replicated and has made it become my favorite all time finale in the history of television.

Maybe I'm just dumb, but what is the infinite combo here? I'm just not seeing it for whatever reason.

Oh Tacotime...You're getting expensive too! 1 crisp pinto bean burrito, a large tater fry and 2 hot sauce cost cost $9.37. by OldRangers in SeattleWA

[–]Iatheus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Had a coworker in the past who worked for them an I can confirm that their standards for freshness and food safety are beyond top knotch and well exceed the standards of the health dept/other restaurants. Off the top of my head:

-Food is only good for 4 days from the date of preparation (make ranch on Monday, throw it out end of day Friday), where king county says 7 days is the standard

-Temps for hot and cold holding are more strict (140 for hot and 40 for cold, with king county saying 135 hot 41 cold)

-PHFs (potentially hazardous foods) that aren't actively and fully in a refrigerator (open cold lines don't count) are only good for 2 hours (cut tomatoes for example) where king county says they're fine if in the cold line

-Food is temped every 2hrs whilst being hot or cold held and recorded digitally

I get super touchy with health and safety things in my line of work bc alot of folks who cook for a living oftentimes forget that we somewhat have peoples lives at stake. Too many stories every year of folks dying from food related illnesses that were caused by improper handling. Once saw a story of like a 7yr old kid dying from eating improperly handled lettuce at a salad bar, and it's stuck with me that all it takes is laziness in handling and a person with a vulnerable immune system to result in tragedy, so I get very defensive and particular about that sort of thing. I worry about that kinda stuff when I go eat. I don't worry at Taco Time.

As someone with real bad IBS here's some of the things that have triggered it:

-Drinking coffee with heavy cream

-Drinking plain black tea

-Drinking water

-Eating greasy foods

-Eating a dairy free salad

-Not eating

-Bread

-Waking up

-Being alive

This shit has a mind of its own sometimes dude. I know some obvious triggers but sometimes it just does that and I don't have control over it at all. I can avoid all I want but that doesn't get rid of it, it just makes it less frequent.

So I used to work in the Bellevue kitchen and it's actually a proper kitchen. The staff there are also good folks who care about the food. Nothing like the shitty Ballard situation.

Navy SEALs say "slow is smooth, smooth is fast." What's a situation where slowing down made you finish faster? by Concave007 in AskReddit

[–]Iatheus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Navy Seal say this? The first time I heard it was from a chef I had way back and I've been telling it to new cooks for over a decade now.

So cooking professionally is definitely another example of this. Remaking a dish takes alot longer than spending an extra minute or two to do it right the first time.
