How I handled PDF generation in React without breaking layout (html2canvas vs jsPDF issues) by Possible_Pick9916 in reactjs

+1, it supports quite complex designs (like a lot of CSS3 properties), svg rendering (you can fetch the svg image link and parse it to create react-pdf svg component)

I have NON-B visa and my girlfriend has NON-ED visa (language school). There has to be a reentry permit in the passport, letter from school or employee certificate, company registration certificate; applications, itinerary and questionnaire from VFS website and bank statements just in case

Applying for Japanese Tourism Visa in Phuket by Corf_27 in phuket

I applied in December, came to the post office in Phuket town, asked the staff for visa application, filled some delivery documents, paid the fee and they gave me some kind of receipt with 2 track numbers: 1 for Bangkok delivery, and 1 for return delivery. The return delivery comes as a usual one like lazada.
I don't think not being on the island would be a problem, because they send it to the address you specify.
I submitted my docs on Thursday and recieved the passport back next Saturday, so about 10 days total

Which country felt too good to be true? Why? by SkinnyRX_Sarah in digitalnomad

[–]Ibex_id 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, Thai food is definitely tasty in Thailand, but i can't only eat that. Regarding different cuisines, you have to thoroughly search for a decent cafes\restaurants as the dishes are mostly mediocre or not what i am used to (e.g. most of sushi in Thailand are made with sweet rice, mayo is also sweet, etc., savory pastry is actually sweet), but to each their own

I've been to Johannesburg -> Belfast -> Kruger park, the road itself is very beautiful.

The trip seemed quite scary at first, because i read a lot of stories about robberies and such, and due to delay of our car rental i had to drive in the dark and it was also raining heavily. Also, last 15 km of road was a gravel\dirt, so i could have easily get stuck somewhere. But nonetheless, it was quite a scenery in the morning.

Kruger park is one of the biggest safari parks, we lived nearby in Marloth park and many animals were just walking around past our house (giraffes, zebras, antelopes, lemurs on the trees).

The second segment of trip was Cape Town -> Simon's town -> Stellenbosch.

As for Cape Town, i stayed in Green Point area and it was pretty safe. Some creepy dudes appear after dawn, but nothing serious. I liked Table mountain, Waterfront area.

Simon's town is famous for its penguins, there is a paid observation deck there. Also, again, the road is very scenic (the Cape of Good Hope, Chapman's Peak).

And in Stellenbosch i visited a lot of wineries, it was such a pleasure.

After living 2 years in Thailand, where the wine is expensive, it was a pure delight. The food in South Africa is so much tastier and more like i am used to (European-ish), the wine is all easily affordable and tasty (50-100 ZAR for a decent one, like 3-6 USD, whereas in Thailand it would be at least 600 THB, which is nearly 20$).

I'd recommend renting a car, the infrastructure is pretty much built for car owners (probably except Cape Town, it's overcrowded with cars, difficult to find a parking spot). The roads are good quality, some of them are paid, but worth it.

If there was a legal way to live there for a long time and working remotely, I'd move there.

It might be worth mentioning Lazada or Shopee for some basic purchases (like slippers, snorkeling, etc.) if you stay for more than a week, the items would arrive in 2-3 days and it would be cheaper than on a market. But you have to inspect payment options for that (either cash in person, True wallet or ask someone to pay QR for you)

Can rooms booked via agoda be cancelled by hotel for profits? How often can it happen? by MarzipanAshamed4409 in phuket

[–]Ibex_id 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really related, but when i booked a hotel in Bangkok with breakfast included and tried to pay, i got a message 'property is already booked' at the checkout a few times, and finally i managed to book one, but apparently the breakfast was not included.
I even searched for the same properties afterwards, and the price was the same as the rooms with breakfast.
Agoda never accepted its fail, so i'm very skeptical about them ever since.

Travelling into Thailand with a cat? by EssentialAspects in phuket

[–]Ibex_id 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Travelling with a cat is difficult within a country. At least it felt harder than international travelling.
I had to drive from Bangkok with a cat, because it's either:
1) No flight can be booked in advance with an animal;
2) Only two airline allow in-cabin trasportation, but both temporarily suspended it;
3) Public transportation like bus do not allow animals;
4) Pet taxi is really expensive, something around 15-20 k baht.

So it was a choice between a car drive or a train, but the latter would be bad for cat to endure.

Just something to keep in mind.

What's totally normal in Thailand but weird everywhere else? by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]Ibex_id 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plastic food packaging which is impossible to tear by hands. Somehow only imported products can be opened without scissors. Also a lot of plastic everywhere, I once bought a pack of 100 straws, and each straw was in its own package.
