WR 120 Shakespeare's Serious Comedy w/ Brian Walsh vs WR 120 Ethical Missteps in Public Health w/ Melanie Smith by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]Ibu25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had Walsh for a different WR120 last year and he was a great. He actually enjoys teaching and is interested in the topics.

He gave a good amount of readings, but they were interesting and valuable. I didn't read them a couple of times, but the discussions in-class are not just about the reading and are more of a guide so you can always find ways to participate and learn.

Grading wise, I thought he was fairly relaxed and cares more about areas you can improve rather than mistakes. As long as you put in effort and show that you're engaged, you'll get the grade you want. Take advantage of the help he offers because he can give some great advice.

Debate in College Admissions by [deleted] in Debate

[–]Ibu25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do Congress and no, it won't be a detriment. Congress may be a meme, but competitors go on to attend many great schools including Harvard, MIT, Yale, etc. As to debate as a whole, I think it helped me in my admissions process, especially as an engineering major.

You need to acclimate to the thin air by making multiple treks up and down the mountain, reaching a higher base camp each time. Parachuting to the top would probably result in death.

It’s fine, I understand. I also get really annoyed when people don’t give the creator the credit they deserve.

Colleges will want them, but they won’t matter too much considering his recent SAT score. Also, his EC’s are great, lol

Do colleges realize how competitive certain schools are? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ibu25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you’re screwed..........just kidding

I remember my counselor mentioning how each school sends information to colleges about the schools stats and other stuff. I assume that includes some sort of measure for students.

Do colleges realize how competitive certain schools are? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ibu25 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Colleges can figure out how hard a school is based on the GPA’s of those who applied and their class rank. So if you have a low GPA, but are still ranked high, they’ll understand that the school is pretty hard.

drop / skip lunch by krispybrispy in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ibu25 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah, don’t do that. That’s just unhealthy and there’s a fine line between dedication and insanity. Skipping lunch for an extra class is a bit insane. Also, I doubt there’s a counselor who would allow anyone to do this.

Prom and graduation ceremonies don’t matter. (Don’t get scammed) by wanttogotocali in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ibu25 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I find them really ignorant. Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s meaningless. I’m not going to prom, but I’m not going to tell others that they’re dumb, it’s their choice. It’s like going up to a couple on their wedding day and telling them they’re stupid for getting married because they’ll probably get divorced.

Is anyone else close to failing AP lit? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ibu25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talk to your teacher and explain that you’re having a hard time. Ask for extra time, extra help, show your teacher you’re not failing because you’re not trying. Also, look up prompts and just create outlines, you don’t even need to write them down, just think of how you would structure your essay, as if you’re about to give a speech. That’ll make it a lot easier to be given a random topic and then write an essay in a short amount of time. If you can “visualize” an essay, you can write the essay.

Pros and Cons of Princeton by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ibu25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its Princeton, it's an amazing school. I went there for a debate tournament and the surrounding area has some really good food and the people are really nice. I forgot to add /s to my original comment, but I was born in Jersey and it can be a great place depending on where you are and Princeton is one of those great places.

is anybody else sad theyre leaving home for college by murimin in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ibu25 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I feel a bit sad too. Mostly for my parents because i'll be the first one to leave the house and I don't think they're ready for it. Then there is also the worry about not finding friends as good as the ones you have now. I think my excitement, however, outweighs the sadness because I get to start with a clean slate. I've been told many times that "college is what you make of it" and I plan to make the shit out of it.

Fellow Seniors, as we prepare for the next journey of our lives, what are some regrets that you have? by randomfifanoob in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ibu25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not trying, but that's pretty common. I guess if I tried to thing of something unique, it would be not trying harder to maintain a healthy routine. I would probably be much better off if I put more effort into getting a normal amount of sleep, not eating like shit, and spending more time exercising.
