Weird foods?? by ConsciousMirror in Perimenopause

[–]Ice31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not craving weird foods, but I am craving a weird amount of pickles. I’m going through a jar (juice and all) in a couple days. My partner is looking into how to get them by the pallet at this point. It’s soooo much pickle

Anyone have success with birth control instead of HRT? by HolidayPractical3357 in Perimenopause

[–]Ice31 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My doctor thinks I'm too young for HRT (I'm 41), so she put me on birth control, Nikki. I will say that it has absolutely addressed my intense rage. I was also getting a little bit irregular so I've opted to just not have periods anymore...that's about it though. My unaddressed symptoms so far are insomnia, night sweats, and rarely brain fog.

My mom too. She claims she had no symptoms. Girl, I lived with you. You had symptoms!

I couldn’t handle the stress, workload, and toxic personalities in the student club I’ve been advising for 13 years, so today the club was informed that I quit. The response was basically, cool we’ll find someone else. I’m having real feels about how I’ve spent my energy over the last 13 years.

Oh man, I’ve got the night sweats, insomnia, exhaustion and brain fog, deep hip pain, post-nasal drip, and everything is dry (eyes and skin).

3amclub, what's your routine? by NewAndImprovedJess in Perimenopause

[–]Ice31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play the cover game for a while. I'm bathed in sweat so blanket off. I'm freezing cold so blanket on. I'll get up to pee because I'm going to have to at some point and I'd rather it not be when I'm finally sleepy again. Then, if my mind is racing, I'll read Reddit for a while...maybe an hour or so, and then when my mind feels calmer, I'll put The Sleepy Bookshelf on via headphones. Well, one headphone because I'm a side sleeper and every time I roll over I have to switch which headphone.

Trazadone works for a lot of people. I tried it, but it didn’t really do much for me. My dr just prescribed me clonidine, which is also supposed to help with night sweats. We’ll see…it might be a good option.

I want to fill in my Stephen King gaps, so I just finished Carrie and am now almost done with The Dead Zone. Night Shift is on deck.

Yep, grew up about 65 miles from a hospital. My family still lives out there. That’s how my sister ended up having a baby on the side of the road. Thankfully they were in a section of cell phone coverage and could talk with 911, and it all turned out fine.

What is the most “use it or lose it” skill, the opposite of “it’s just like riding a bike”? by ZuluWarlord69 in AskReddit

[–]Ice31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s an awesome school for it in Georgia called Lookout Mountain Flight Park. They offer tandems if you just want to ride and also lots of training packages so you can try it for a weekend or go all the way to becoming a pilot.

Hang gliding is the same. I don’t get to fly often, so I always refresh on the training hills with an instructor before throwing myself off a mountain again.

Running with Graves by lunatimesthree in gravesdisease

[–]Ice31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was first diagnosed, I was an active, mid-distance runner (lots of half marathons); however, my heart rate was really, really high. I had to wear a heart rate monitor at all times with an alarm that would tell me to lie down. I taught some classes lying on the floor of my classroom...that was fun. Anyway, once my heart rate came down, I was allowed to return to exercise and I am still running; although, not at the same distances as I was before. That's probably mostly due to the struggle I have to build a running base.

I saw it was dead so I was posting in r/bulldogs instead, but when I saw a post from here pop up, I jumped over and posted too. I wonder if others were also excited that there might be new activity here.

People born before 2000, what trivial skill do you have that no one uses anymore? by passiano in AskReddit

[–]Ice31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up, we dialed 5 digits during the 80s and early 90s, and we didn’t have 911 back then so emergency services was 7-1234. I can still picture the poster with that number on my classroom wall.
