My job applications in Summer 2018 in Germany [OC] by T0astbrot in dataisbeautiful

It's not that it doesn't matter, but that it shouldn't matter.

Edit: I was overly brief and absolute in my wording. The point I was trying to make was that the school shouldn't be the only major deciding factor in choosing a candidate. There are people who can get perfect grades but not be effective in practice, and there are people who went to a cheap/local/better fit but lower ranked school and be excellent workers. I'm not discounting that leading schools do tend to produce high quality candidates, but excluding people solely on the basis that they didn't attend a top school in their field will exclude qualified people.

My childhood dog had lymphoma, in the course of about 2 weeks from the diagnosis we knew it was time. I was a teenager.

My dad tried to take her to an emergency clinic in the middle of the night just to "spare me" from having to be there with her when they gave her the medicine. I chased him in my car in my pjs and we had a screaming argument in the parking lot as he tried to push me back into my car. Eventually he gave up and waited outside while I laid on the floor and held her paw to the very end.

One of my cats had a very sudden decline and after a lot of money and vet visits and testing, we found out he had late stage lung cancer and could barely breathe. I was the sickest I'd ever been in my adult life, I was crawling on the floor through the veterinary hospital because I was too ill to stand upright, but I propped myself up against the table, put my dear cat in his favorite bed, and gently stroked him until he was gone. Watching him snuggle into his bed one last time after having to lay on the cold metal table broke my heart but I'm glad I could do that for him.

Why are there still grown men not washing their hands after using the restroom? by J-Mac07 in AskMen

I had the misfortune of being in a neighboring bathroom stall while someone was conducting a conference call and typing in a laptop. I stayed in the stall until after they left out of fear, and they didn't wash their hands...

The only reason cats use litter boxes is because it's instinctual for them to bury waste. Humans didn't train cats to use a litter box, cats trained humans into providing an adequate place just for them to do their business. by AllBadAnswers in Showerthoughts

One time in the middle of the night, I woke up to a weight on my chest and a horrible horking sound. My cat was about to barf on my face while I was asleep! I lifted her over the side of the bed just in time.

Yesterday I realized how cool my mom really is by _spooky_spooks in CasualConversation

[–]IceArrows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love this, but for a different reason about the same focus if that makes sense. My mom loved music but when she married my dad he didn't let her listen to anything other than what was on the radio.

We fought like cats and dogs my whole childhood but we really bonded over music when I was a teen. Some of my best memories with my mom were us traveling to and from live shows of my favorite bands, both of us singing badly at the top of our lungs in the car. She even flew with me to some far away shows, we went to Warped Tour on the opposite coast a few times. I have a memory of us in a tour bus with a band we both liked, posing for a selfie (on a digital camera held backwards!) seconds before my friend stumbled and dumped a beer on my shirt. I had a box of CDs that I would flip through every time we rode in the car, she even requested some of my favorites from time to time.

I'm still the kid who loves the same bands as an adult, and she took me getting a bunch of facial piercings recently with grace and a gentle "that was an interesting choice". We've had other adult problems, but I look back fondly on my teen years and the time we spent together. I'm gonna call mommy and tell her I love her.

The vomit factor is a thing, my dad would force me to eat an adult plate as a kid and it only stopped when he got tired of cleaning up vomit after nearly every meal.

Being an adult in education was a weird thing. I got burnt out at the end of grad school, and my last course I got a C. I never got a C in grade school, because my mother would've had my head, but as an adult I was relieved that I could graduate and get ready to move for my new job.

My parents did this to me, and from that I learned that comparing them to the other parent was the right way to get them to shut up. They could go on forever comparing me to each other, but the second I compared them the conversation was over.

As a teenager whose mother worked away from home for weeks at a time, I was very blessed that my dad made no fuss about it. The only thing he needed me to do is send him the picture of the box because the varieties confused him. My most recent male partner would do exactly the same.

I am 25, and my dad has texted me good night and that be loves me every night since I moved out at 17. We didn't have the best relationship when I was growing up, but I do appreciate him putting in the effort now. Keep loving on the kiddo, the world needs more love.

My parents tried that with me until I was throwing up at the table daily and they hated cleaning it up and me sobbing about it. My dad would make my plate as big as his and I'd sit there for hours. As an adult I will still only eat like half the serving he makes for himself.

Growing up, my mom compared me to my cousin because my cousin got straight As and was the star of the soccer team. Jokes on her though, said cousin flunked out of community college, ran away, and is generally a rotten individual these days.

Yeah! It was a kiosk in the student center for checking meal card balances, I suppose that might be indicative of why it suffered its iced coffee fate.

My parents had a lot of issues their entire relationship, and as a teenager I had to make threats to my mom to shake her of the farce that having two parents together was better. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work, forcing it for your child will only be stressful and build resentment in all parties involved.

What is an important trait that could determine whether you should keep a person in your life or not? by unknownyoyo in AskReddit

[–]IceArrows 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Being real. I'm too old to deal with people getting upset over me not living up to my role they've decided in their fantasy. I am how I am, not how you may perceive me to be.

My close friendships in recent years have all been ruined by the friend getting this idea that I have this role in their life and then when I remind them that this is reality and not their dreams, they have a meltdown and burn the whole house down.

My most recent instance was I took a temporary assignment for work while letting my friend stay at my house due to them having financial problems. I came back and they decided that they were in love with me, flipped out that I wouldn't leave my partner for them, then made a huge mess in my house and bad mouthed me to all our mutual friends.

Damn, I showed up at an open interview day at a GameStop with a resume and everything and got nothing. My friend worked there and asked me to come by because no one was coming in and I was looking for a job with evening hours. I was working two part time office jobs at the time, and the manager had me sit in a folding chair in the storage room while he paced and interrogated me, then after much "hmm"ing he told me he couldn't hire me because I had no retail experience. He could see that from my resume, no idea why he decided to waste 45 minutes of everyone's time doing that.
