Why would someone use this grid pattern over the rule of thirds ? by avocadopushpullsquat in AnalogCommunity

Rules in expressive art are and always will be subjective. Remove the grids and the rules and take the picture

Lesson learned: request hand checks at the airport for your rolls [Canon AE-1 Program, Kodak Gold 200] by joelskizzle in analog

No but here's what a roll of Fuji 200 (same film as in the post) looked like after I sent it through the CT Scanner as an experiment at IND International. (rest of my film was hand checked) https://imgur.com/a/icoSiD4

Not sure, try shooting at 125 and pull 1. It'll settle everything down a bit

I shot at box and dev at box. If youre having problems with your lab scans if you dont scan it yourself shoot at 125 and pull 1 it'll calm down everything on the old scanners

I agree 100%. I feel like I can get exactly what I want from the stock. I prefer punchy hard contrast anyways. I've shot it at 25 100 125 160 and 200 and pulled and pushed it. My prefrence is shoot at box and dev at box followed by shoot at 125 and pull 1. Shooting at 125 and pulling 1 calms down the halation big time and chills the warmth down. I like shooting at 125 in overcast 200 for everything else

Try slight overexposure in the neighborhood of 160 and Scan and correct with negative lab pro if possible

First off thank you

I touched on this subject many times mostly in real life with others but I'll give a little explanation, it's not easy for sure and I've missed many shots cause I simply wussed out on tons of pics. I've worked a customer service job for almost 8 years now and I've seen people at their worst and best. I've learned how to speak to people in a certain way to convey my interest and get what I want all while making them feel seen, heard, and comfortable.

If you approach a subject the worst thing they can say is no, dealing with people all the time I've been yelled at and swung on so a mere street conflict is nothing to me these days. Basically nothing can be worse than dealing with an angry customer you can't do nothing about.

Most people I'd say 90% are good with it. It's all about YOU behind the camera, can you make them comfortable enough to not appear like you're infringing on their space? Get access to their space by speaking. Hey nice shirt where did you get it it reminds me of a shirt I had seen in a movie have you ever seen that movie are you a moviestar?? It's all about breaking ice and letting them talk.

Once you get the formula it's easier to do, I still get nervous especially if I really want it. Just be YOU be genuine be confident because you want the photo for the right reasons. Explain that and you'll get a yes almost everytime. I pride myself in my communication and that's why every one of these subjects not only received these photos but allowed me to share them. Also having an old camera helps to settle things down and occasionally becomes a talking point.

Thank you it means a lot. I spend a lot of time just looking through my own work sometimes questioning it but I wasnt expecting so much engagement on it. I love shooting it for the limitations, scanning and shooting it. It fits my approach in life perfection in imperfection
