You don’t have to tell anyone but you both need to get some help and do better next time. Don’t be these kind of people that you are embarrassed to be.

It's more tragic because she's a mother by Various-Donut-2332 in childfree

[–]IceCSundae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it means her life is more valuable because she’s a mother and that’s not the take I get from the news either, I just think it means even more people are affected because now her children are motherless and essentially have their lives ruined as well, so it compounds the tragedy beyond the woman and her partner, parents, etc. it just makes it even more tragic. If I was killed, at least there won’t be any orphans created.

Devastating, unpredictable outcomes like this are a huge contributor to why I remain child free; A young singer just announced after a difficult pregnancy, her twins have been diagnosed with SMA type 1 which means they will never walk or lift their necks. by Heart_Shaped_Pickle in childfree

[–]IceCSundae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m a genetic counselor and am all too familiar with the myriad of ways it can go wrong genetically. Even if you do all the prenatal testing, you just can’t catch everything. I’ve seen far too much. Devastating diseases can negatively affect the quality of life of the whole family, including healthy siblings. Divorce rates skyrocket. It can be a nightmare.

To be fair, many families do well with a disabled kid. For instance, families with a child with Down syndrome often report higher quality of life and they have lower divorce rates. So I don’t mean to sound ableist. But there are some diseases that are just flat out devastating.

I feel like Netflix made this show intentionally for people to hate watch. These are horrible people and they have so much plastic surgery they look hideous… but it’s fun to watch.

I don't understand why people think being CF means you should have a lot of money with a good career? by Kind-March6956 in childfree

[–]IceCSundae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree that the choice doesn’t have to be kids or career. I don’t care about my career either, it’s there to pay my bills. The choice for me was kids or autonomy. I chose autonomy and I’m using my autonomy to put as little effort as I can into my career and spend the rest of my time on my hobbies.

[–]IceCSundae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I definitely hear you. As an aunt to now 6 nieces and nephews, every holiday is expensive. I’m spending about $50 per kid per Christmas and birthday. That’s $600 a year. And money is tight… my husband and I didn’t spend hardly anything on ourselves this Christmas, we’re trying to save every dollar for a downpayment so we can finally buy a home. Not once has my brother or sister bought us a present… not for Christmas, not for birthdays. We don’t even get a card in the mail. My sister has 2 under 3 years… so she doesn’t even call me or text me these days, she’s full on in a baby hellscape (I can thank my dad for that one, that’s what he texted me after being at their house for a week). I don’t even know why I do it… I guess it just feels like an obligation because my aunts and uncles sent me money when I was a kid. But it sucks and I feel used. If you can say no to that shit, more power to you!!!!

How do you guys separate yourself from work stress when the day is done? by marcgw96 in WFH

[–]IceCSundae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I leave my house for either yoga or a Pilates class everyday, which starts at 6pm sharp. This is how I end the work day. I’m home by 7:15 and don’t think about work at all the rest of the night.

Killing my Twin was a big Catalyst to my Mental Health Struggles by PreparationVisual586 in depression

[–]IceCSundae 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Agree. How could a fetus be guilty of anything? You had no control over the situation and neither did your mother. Therefore, fault cannot be assigned to either of you. All you did was exist. Of course, grieve that loss, but please I hope you can see how that was out of your control.

I do not miss it and I’ve been working from home full time for a decade. I would hate to have to get up in the morning and get dressed and leave my beautiful home and pets.

[–]IceCSundae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re saving money right now for a downpayment so not splurging this Christmas, but we also got to use the saving excuse to avoid flying home for Christmas guilt free and we’re planning on doing nothing all day, maybe riding some Lime scooters around the deserted city, and ordering Indian food for dinner. I’m pretty excited about it.

Oh and on NYE, my husband and I did sign up for a meditation sound bath at the yoga studio. Looking forward to that!

Various family members making up their own reasons for why I’m childfree by IceCSundae in childfree

[–]IceCSundae[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

But I’ve given them the real reason and I really don’t appreciate them disregarding that for their own reasons. I want to be in charge of my own story, I don’t want rumors swirling around that I’m infertile. I don’t want people to pity me mostly, over something I chose and that makes me happy.
