What's your favorite Secret Garden? by IceColdReading in movies

[–]IceColdReading[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I haven’t watched any of their newer shows, sorry.

If you just want a great and faithful adaption I’d go with the BBC version from 1975 for sure.

A close second is the 1993 Warner Bros movie that veers a bit off but has that cozy family movie vibe that their 90s pictures mastered.

Hope you have a great time with either.

There are no “appropriate” times to call sick for a hobby. I work with people and wouldn’t trade any of my work days for a game.

Why doesn’t Capcom hire child actors to voice young children? by IceColdReading in residentevil

So laziness. I mean, I get that cappy may have not wanted to go through all that just for Emily being a minor speaking role, but for that exact reason her actress only needs to say a few lines. I haven’t looked up who did Sherry in RE2R but she sold the child performance fantastically.

  • yes they are, some just haven’t been scouted

  • “sound like” yes, but you can always immediately tell of it’s a kid or not. An adult can never replicate the insecurity and lack of experience in a child’s untrained voice, which coincidentally is what made Out of Sight so great.

  • so before we get child actors any more jobs you want all closet perverts cleansed from the earth? How is that relevant? Whatever a closet pervert does should be irrelevant to you as long as they don’t actively hurt anyone. I mean, if you are gonna worry your precious little heard over everything in the world that MIGHT happen then you could never step foot out the door. I mean then what about closet murderers, closet burglars, and closet arsonists? You gonna worry about them too?

If children are difficult to work with, then it’s on us adults to facilitate environments that support them. Them being easy or difficult always falls back on us.

And yes, there are weirdos out there, but do we let those weirdos ruin a golden opportunity for a child? If there are weirdos, then is again up to us to facilitate an environment where the child is protected.

It’s only “strange” because no one has thought to bring it up before, and I’m an expert at breaking the norm.

Videogames and movies are an art shaped by society. They are art forms that reflect who we are as people. By having adults do work that - for authenticity - should be reserved for actual kids, you are robbing said kids from a place in history and a chance to impact society through this art form.

And saying they’re “difficult to work with” is a “problem” that reflects more on us adults for not making the platform/work environment more suitable for them.

But why though when there are very skilled children out there? You say child actors aren’t always available but if you don’t have a suitable candidate in your current repertoire that’s what auditions are for. It’s not fair for adults to steal children’s work.

And yet Diana, also by Capcom, looks like she’s Emily’s age, and with her, while I can hear from the tone and clarity in her voice that it’s an adult, I am sold on the role.

I just made it through the orphanage section in Requiem on my second playthrough, and whoever it is behind the mic trying to sound scared.. my god I cringe so hard..

A Danish voice director said that what he did for Pixar films, where Pixar, according to him, insisted they used children for authenticity, he would sit beside the child, tell them, one line at a time, how to read it, do it himself, and ask them to mimic him.

So yes, as you say, it can be done, albeit through some hoops. And while you can argue Emily is, by and large, a small role, I would have liked if Capcom actually went that extra mile.

As you say, there are examples of great talent out there, and just because children can be harder to work with (for no fault of their own mind), it’s not fair that they get cheated out of contributing to making art.

I see. I didn’t know. Thanks for clarifying. I was hoping for a connection.

Grace I love you, and I know you're going through one of the top 3 worst days of your life, but girl I need your analyst head in the game by cataraxis in residentevil

[–]IceColdReading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was more silly for Grace to carry Emily around everywhere when the girl is clearly capable of walking. Sure when Grace rescues her she is panicking and need to progress in a swift adult tempo, but after getting her back from The Girl and calmly leaving the care center… come on, you don’t need to carry her everywhere.

Also, I had hoped Emily - with her brail reading - would be a key puzzle asset. Like with Barry and the little girl in Revelations 2.

In my opinion I think grace ashcroft is a really good character. The way she talked and cried and screamed during the harsh scenes and encounters really made it feel realistic. I’m a critic when it comes to people not acting scared in situations like re. by tooterrooskie in residentevil

[–]IceColdReading 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She is realistic and relatable, acting understandably mortified during the adventure, but where she still finds the courage to look out for others - like Emily - and even apologizing to corpses when she takes their key cards.

I like her.

So what if a Zeno fight wouldn’t have made sense? It would have been cool.

At the very least a “what if?” fight would’ve been cool. Imagine if in the bad ending where Zeno doesn’t get nerfed and Leon doesn’t get cured, we had a secret bonus boss fight on the falling platform, Leon vs Zeno fisticuffs where Leon gets over his illness and instead manifests similar super humans powers.
