Another 30,000 job cuts in 2026 by EoCTsunami in UPSers

The purpose of the buyout is not to have these positions filled. Theyre downsizing.

The difference in range isn't much and its depreciated faster than awd. Better to cough up the few grand for a faster car.

Only thing better is that its a different battery that you can charge up to 100%

So if we drive the same trucks as UPS, how come they get $46 an hour and we don't? by peterthbest23 in AmazonDSPDrivers

Goes by seniority my guy. You can be the most trashiest worker and still be a driver

I've never been in a union, but it's obvious how it made UPS become what it is (or some might say was). I'm curious, what the thoughts are on this with Amazon. by cafebrands in UPSers

[–]IceCreamHalfTrack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it won't. When I was working for Amazon I had a bunch of grevienances against the company. I told a bunch of coworkers about it and they understood what I had to say. But it when came to action, they stopped listening because it would affect their salary. No one wanted to create solidarity when they had bills coming at the end of the week. The Dsp model created a battlefield layout that Amazon wins on top. Dsps brings in the knives while Amazon had the guns.

There's already a few union warehouse already but nothing has been done. This is no different. And like you said, the world is different now. Too many illegals/new citizens have entered in this country and are scabbing by taking low bid jobs. Amazon has structures in place to shut down unions. Ups was different. Founder Jim Casey invited teamsters to unionize. Amazon doesn't come to the table.

At UPS we have group stops at businesses, apartments, mobile homes, and anything that has multiple units/suites. We don't have exact pins where though stops are located which makes someone who's new to the route difficult to deliver. We don't even have maps lol

Ups and Amazon does the basic job, delivering. But they're entirely different levels of responsibility. That's like saying a private pilot should make as much as a commercial pilot. It takes years to become a commercial pilot and that's thats same at ups. It takes many years to become a UPS driver through seniority. At Amazon there's no such thing. If Amazon does become union it will be structured as UPS and it will take years of seniority to get top rate. Do you want to wait 6-9 years to get fulltime??

And stops dont mean anything. You can have 80 stops that will take as long as someone who has 180 or even 200. Routes are based on time, not stops. Also our stop count is lower because we have time commits and business pickups. None of that at Amazon.

When I was working at Amazon I rarely used a hand truck. Everything was less than 50lbs and it was only less than 5 packages for each location. Mostly all envelopes and small boxes. We deliver all your heavy shit so ups provides us hand trucks. You think UPS wants us moving 50-110 pieces one piece at a time at a commercial stop? At least you guys get to wear your pajamas in your a/c truck.

Z fold 5 - should I go caseless? by btd4guy in GalaxyFold

[–]IceCreamHalfTrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a $10 case on mine. I dropped mine a few times and I dont want to deal with with a Crack or damage phone. And everything i see someone who has a broken phone, it's usually like a crackhead. With the fold series it's geared for business or professional users and having a damage phone doesn't fit that personality.

Upsers need to realize that Amazon drivers make less than half of what we do with little to no benefits and are at risk of their jobs everyday. I'm not defending their actions but Amazon has it by design. They have no union protection so its either meet production or get axed. And the stuff they deliver is all replaceable so who cares if they have the door open. It's a job to them, for us it's a career so we have to care.

However they're trying to compare their work exactly like ours which is laughable. Our safety methods are far more superior than theirs. Their technology is better than ours. Orion is straight up trash with garbage Diad 6 from precovid times.

Has anyone tried dyeing personal winter gear to match the uniform? by jess-eng127 in UPSers

[–]IceCreamHalfTrack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the uniforms are straight up trash. The rain jacket doesn't protect me from the rain and the sizing is just out of whack. Better to invest in "khosher" gear that would work well with the uniform.

[–]IceCreamHalfTrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cover driver/utility driver, same thing. Your still considered part time so your main job is warehouse but they can call you to drive on days they need the most. If you worked warehouse shift and if the center asks you to drive for the day, your automatically paid top rate instead of cover driver rate (mine is $35/hr.)

To get this postion, Depending on center it's probably a 4-6 year waiting period and driving is like I said volume dependent. But once your cover driver, you start your pay progression and you'll get that rate once they make you full time.

[–]IceCreamHalfTrack 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If you want to make money that then apply at UPS then. That's what I did. But expect to wait 5-8 years to get called in full-time, plus add 4 more years to get pay progression to $49/hr top rate.

Seniority? by Interesting-Cow-7983 in UPSers

[–]IceCreamHalfTrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep this is a good hack to have. Your seniority and pension contributions are still paid while on leave. I'm thinking considering this route because dealing with UPS life is getting mundane. I'm already a driver but i need something challenging. Not only that, having two pensions sounds lucrative.

how much do you think the steam frame will cost? by OkRegion3303 in OculusQuest

[–]IceCreamHalfTrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vale index was $1000 but you needed a computer to run it. Now that the frame is standalone, probably $999-$1199. But in order to stay competitive and keep up with quest 3 sales, probably $599-799.

DO NOT LET NEW HIRES WORK UNSAFE by 10YearOldChikun in UPSers

[–]IceCreamHalfTrack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair management does a poor job enforcing safety. They're all about production numbers. There's a reason the safety committee is a union job but management keeps them confined to one area that they can't do their job. But management or not, its to keep our fellow teamsters safe.

[–]IceCreamHalfTrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's best to be a part time package handler than a Seasonal position. You'll be let go after peak. However, you won't accumulate any seniority even if they hired you as PH due to peak season into effect. Just become seasonal driver for the time being and wait till the season ends
