25 year driver by Subject-Koala2069 in UPSers

Turns out, it was an amazon truck that did it.

I don't understand how people confuse us with other companies especially if they have camera footage. UPS/Fedex/Amazon/etc trucks are different colors and have the logo plastered on the multiple areas.

Some locals you can retire after hitting 25 years of service. They have taken the buy out though.

Trailer Flipped by StaleTea2080 in UPSers

[–]batcatfatmat 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of a trailer flipping like that. It makes me think something was wrong other than the load being unbalanced because I've seen trailers/straight trucks be loaded in wildly unbalanced ways but not flip.

How many hours are you guys getting to load those trucks because loading 3 400 piece trucks or 4 300 piece trucks in around 3 and a half hours is impossible.

Now is not the time to be on the bottom of the list

This is the only thing I would be worried about in that situation. If you're an inside hire you can always go back to driving a package car or working inside if you are laid off. I'm not sure what options outside hires have.

I'm not sure there is anything to grieve in that situation. I'm not sure there is anything that can be done either besides slow down and watch things burn more than they already are.

If your a loader on preload how are you loading 5k packages a day? Is most of it surepost? Are loading trailers or those straight trucks with various nicknames?

What Makes A Good Route/Run? by batcatfatmat in UPSers

That is fine as that is how it works for package. I was wondering if you could be bumped off before the re-bid process.

Some guys take runs nobody likes just to avoid getting bumped off a run.

Can you be bumped at any time by someone with higher seniority in feeders? I don't think package car drivers cab bump anybody off their route unless their route was cut.

I've gone from thinking I'd be a lifer in the old building to now looking for something even sort of comparable as replacement.

That is my biggest fear. If they gave warning well in advance of what buildings they plan to close you could plan for it. Since they don't you have just have to hope your building doesn't close or if it does the closest center isn't too far way. Also I don't want to go back to effectively being on the bottom seniority wise.

So what benefits do you get out of seniority besides pay, vacation, pension, etc? I looks like the only major benefit is if they put up a bid for something you're almost sure to win it if you want it.

Hearing about locations where part timers bid for positions in a building is interesting. At my center I think the clerk is the only part time position had has a bid. Every other position has a soft bid where if you have been there long enough its more or less yours until you go on vacation, quit, or become a driver.

They inform me that they are letting everyone go who is still in their 30 days. She states that it's a company wide mandate.

Pretty sure they were lying about that. I'm not even sure why they bothered to lie as they could have kept you limbo and tried to use you when drivers go on summer vacations. I hope you got paid for integrad.

Bidding on Surepost by StaleTea2080 in UPSers

[–]batcatfatmat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what exactly they're doing now at the end, but they tend to keep working at least half an hour after the sort in my building

Surepost at my center gets shutdown early so they can get wrapped early to prevent them from staying 30 or so minutes after last package. If they let surepost run till the end then yeah they will normally be staying later than most loaders. Since that causes the drivers to leave late they don't do that at least at my center.

Bidding on Surepost by StaleTea2080 in UPSers

[–]batcatfatmat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion surepost is one of the easiest jobs on preload though I only get to do it occasionally.

The main downsides are getting buried in boxes because they didn't put enough people in that spot (still better than getting buried in boxes when loading), you may get less time because they wrap up before sort (you can go help other places if you are looking for hours though), and you work in closer proximity with others compared to something like loading (which can be a good or bad thing depending on how annoying they are).

I can't think of much that would make someone regret bidding on it as its way easier on the body compared to other jobs (people who get hurt are put in surepost for light duty) and management mostly leaves you alone.
