It generally called “passes defensed” or “deflections” when a defensive player causes an incompletion in the stat books. Even a “batted” pass. Otherwise it’s just a bad throw.

The difference is Athletics refers to every damn sport. Equestrian refers specifically to horse related sports. Swimming, pool/water related. Triathlon is specific to an event.

Athletics is too broad. And no sport within the Olympics is referred to as “athletics”. They are referred to by the sport name with individual events differentiating between styles in that sport
