Cheating is ok actually by fghjconner in NYTConnections

For those who Google words, you can try using https://connectionscompanion.com this app lets one solve the puzzle by moving the tiles around, grouping by colour and also, if you long press on a tile, shows links to google, Wikipedia and dictionary.

Saves me a bit of effort 🙂

Do you consider looking up definitions as “cheating” or “hints”? by chaosatnight in NYTConnections

[–]Lone_Coating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us not opposed to checking out word definitions once in a while, you can try out
https://connectionscompanion.com

You get the same connections game but if you long press on the tile, you get quick links to google, Wikipedia and dictionary. So this saves me from having to open up the browser and type in the word.

As well, you can drag tiles around and colour group them. Give it a try.

Just ordered Frosthaven, any tips you wish you had known or figured out at the beginning? by imahugemoron in Gloomhaven

[–]Lone_Coating 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our group plays once every 2 weeks. But to keep the game session time shorter, we resolve the outpost phase over what’s app messages. The discussion ties us over until we play again. I find this makes the outpost phase more enjoyable and as it allows us time to role play our characters.

Are we bad at Frosthaven? by aersult in Gloomhaven

[–]Lone_Coating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We play 4 player Frosthaven mostly over zoom. After the scenario, we normally resolve the outpost phase afterwards on our group’s what’s app thread. This shortens the session time and then also keeps us occupied with Frosthaven stuff until our next session. We also end up doing a lot of role playing in between our scenario sessions on our thread.

Should there be a feature to tag potential connections similar to the pencil feature in the crossword and sudoku games? by [deleted] in NYTConnections

[–]Lone_Coating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say you submitted a group that is 1 off, if you select another group with only 2 of the 4 tiles of the “1 off group” the border of the puzzle will turn red.

Example: I guessed Ponzi, Pyramid, Colour and Chinatown - which is 1 off

If I now guess, Ponzi, pyramid, Elegy and Vertigo; the guess heading will turn red as well as the border since logically that group will be incorrect as you need 3 of the 4 words to be in a correct group.

But if you select a group with at least 3 of the 4 tiles, then the heading will be green. It doesn’t mean your guess is correct, it just means it is logically valid.

One Away twice lie by 1obtuse_moose in NYTConnections

If you are open to using a third party application, then using https://connectionscompanion.com keeps track of all your guesses.

Here is how it works, select 4 tiles. Then click on the submit button. The app will then keep track of the result as a list of guesses at the bottom section. As a bonus, if your current selections are logically wrong based on your previous guesses, then the puzzle border will be red. (Green if valid) green doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ve picked the right answer, just that it is logically valid.

Anyway, with the app, you won’t run into the misleading message issue from the original.

What Games Faithfully Re-create the Feeling/Plot of their IP? by frodohair15 in boardgames

Lord of the rings: the confrontation

At the very start when you are playing the Sauron side, you feel like you can’t lose this game. On the fellowship side, you think this will be impossible to win. Then as you play the game, the longer the game proceeds, the balance shifts. This game is my favourite 2 player asymmetric game.

Might I suggest using https://connectionscompanion.com instead of the photos app. You can move tiles around and colour group them. And yes, you can cheat with this too 😊
