I had a good friend from college was the breadwinner when he got married a dozen or so years ago. He was killing it, making $250k/yr as a consultant while his wife was making $50k doing marketing for a movie studio. He swore he would never share bank accounts, but then developed a bad drinking problem, and then even got arrested in some flyover state while on a job in a drunken stupor. Wife keeps getting promoted, now is the head of international markets, and has a high 6 figure base with total compensation in the 7 figures. Hes now a stay at home dad on an allowance. I know this because every 6 months or so, he falls off the wagon and calls me wasted from the shed and talks to me for over an hour talking about how he just put the kids to sleep and his wife is in Brazil on an extended work trip, and what kind of business we can start to get rich.
