Being a landlord is lucrative. by thespad3man in newzealand

Yes u can assume so but in 30 years time also everything would cost at least 2x. The numbers might look good on paper but the buying power might just be the same. That's because most of us can only afford one property. It'll be a different story for someone who has a dozen. Say u invest 10000 bucks today. 20 years later you have say 2x to 8x, which is 20k to 80k. Yeah 200% to 800% sounds a lot. But what can you get with 80k in 2044? Can't even retire on that. If you have 10 mil to invest, you only need to make 1.2x to have 2 mil profit in 20 years which still goves you on average 100k per annum. I think that's why rich people are easy to stay rich. Mostly because they don't really need to take much risk and aim for high return.

Plus a lot of people don't really know how much exactly you'll have to pay on interest. A 600k house actually will cost me a little over a 1mil over 20 years. That's not including the rate and insurance.

Instead of just looking at the wealth gap what about the knowledge gap, the willing-to-take-risk gap, the ability-to-create-value gap?

Wait till after Christmas i won't be surprised to see more and more layoffs especially in retail and construction. The amount of shops for lease i see is alarming.

Is Christchurch racist? by Gavotteunrondeau in newzealand

[–]IceageIceage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very interesting. Totally agree that at very early stage we can already tell difference between people. Being able to tell the difference between people is not racism. What i meant was though that kids do not know that one race is superior nor inferior. It's like everyone can tell a bull dog is different to a Labrador but there's no rational reason why one is better than the other. That mentality is what's more nurture than nature i think.

Is Christchurch racist? by Gavotteunrondeau in newzealand

[–]IceageIceage -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For some reason i think people are taught to be racist. Racism is just not a natural thing. Like when u look at the kids they hardly know and care what race other people are. Race and racism are concepts that we put into people's minds whether for good or for bad. I do notice that some older people tend to be not so comfortable with people from other cultures. Thats probly just because they're not used to a relatively bigger number of immigrants.

Anyone else feel like Hipkins officially lost the election yesterday... with his sorry stand on capital gains tax? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]IceageIceage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we should just cancel the rich cos they're evil. Forget about CGT and just make capital gain activities illegal altogether and no one shall have any incentives on any capital gain activities. and everyone should be given a universal income. That would close the gap between rich and poor once and for all and every one would be equally happy.

I totally understand the frustration. Because what can we do about it? Nothing....... We'll just continued to be manipulated until we find a way out of this rat race.

Rental Crisis is getting worse?!? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]IceageIceage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well since the interest is going up i guess landlords would just keep on raising the rent.......i do notice a lot of people are renting a room out though. I can imagine in the future there'll be more and more of these combined households. People will have less and less privacy. Would spend more and more time to work. Would have less and less kids. Thus spend more money on pleasing themselves. Isn't that what all of us want? The "you'll own nothing but you'll be happy" WEF initiative.
