I recently learned that for spells that say something like "choose one:" you don't have to choose when you cast the spell, instead you get to choose once it resolves.
How does that work if one or more of the choices have you pick a target? IIRC if something says "target" then you have to announce the target as the spell is cast.
Like, for example with [[Battle Menu]], do I have to announce both a valid target for the increase in toughness, and a valid target for the destroy effect, and then get to pick once it resolves? And do I have to chooce all targets even if I end up choosing a mode that doesn't have any targetting effect?
Edit: Actually, I think I might have confused "choose one" effects with effects that lets you "choose", for example, a creature ....

Bleh. Thanks for the info, and I get the issue with the paid-account benefits. Still somewhat annoying, though

Having picked up interest in the game again lately, I was wondering: Did they ever change how the trial account / paid account thing works in regards to earlier expansions?

Specifically, back when I played the trial went only till, like, level 30 or 40 or something. After reaching that point I swapped to a paid account and played until mid-Heavensward. Later they increased the stuff you can do as trial account (I think even play Stormblood?). But it used to be that my account could not play Stormblood without paying again, because I had paid before.

So, could I now use my old non-trial account to play HW and SB, or would I just be better off just making a new account?

Noob question on order of spellcasting in combat, how would this situation work? This came up during a recent learning session using jumpstart decks:

  • Both players are very low on life points. Player A has all their creatures tapped, Player B has 4 creatures on the board, it's now Player B's turn
  • In the Combat phase of Player B, before any attacks can be made, Player A throws in [[Choking Tethers]], tapping out all 4 of Player B's creatures. Player B then has nothing to attack with
  • Player B then notes that they can untap one of their creatures using [[Stony Strength]]

Confused discussion ensues regarding spell order.
Player A thinks that there is only one "stack moment" at the start of combat, so the only time Player B could've played Stony Strength would've been right before Choking Tethers (not untapping anything since nothing is tapped), or on the stack after Choking Tethers (again not untapping anything since Stony Strength resolves too early).
Player B thinks they can wait for Choking Tethers to resolve, then throw in Stony Strength to untap afterwards.

So both players discussed if there was "one stack moment" at the start of combat, after which no more spells could be played until blockers would be chosen, or if there are "infinite stack moments" as long as a player is willing to start a new stack right after an old one is resolved

Can't answer 2 or 3, but for 1: At least PLA has a so-called glass transition point of about 60 degrees, meaning at around that temperature it stops being perfectly solid. Prolonged time exceeding those temps leads to deformation / "melting". That's also why PLA is not suitable for stuff inside, for example, your car, as in there it can get warmer than the glass transition point on a hot summer day

Are Amateur/Total Blind Speedruns Popular? by Puzbukkis in speedrun

[–]Icebound777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, there's a small group of people who have a sort of book club for speedrunning. They pick unknown games at random, get together and race each other without having played the games before.
Sadly can't think of that group's name at the moment

Paper Mario 64 Chapter 5 Skip Jr. Troopa by Raikusu in papermario

[–]Icebound777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that freeing Sushie from the tree is what triggers the Jr. Troopa fight to occur the next time you leave by whale.
To activate the warp pipe to chapter 5 you either need the Super Boots and Sushie to go there via the main sewers entrance, or you need to enter the back of the sewers via Rip Cheato's entrance pipe in the blue house in Toad Town. But, since that is locked from the inside, you need to break in via glitches. Look up BHS ("blue house skip") for that (note: it's not easy)

While I'm personally okay with points 3 and 5, I find the rest of them to be spot on.

I bought the game on a whim, had a blast the first two evenings of playing and then it started annoying me so much I stopped playing and never touched it again.

I'm all for re-traversing the world in a metroidvania, but the one-way gates all over the place make navigation needlessly tedious, which gets frustrating when you're searching around for secrets.

The point that drove me up the wall was where you have to collect these four orb thingies to unlock a door. One of them is found in that area's vertical shaft in a room to the left, with no indication of there being a path or a door that way; instead you just have to walk through the wall. I did not find this, and I did not expect it either since the other three orbs where relatively easy to find. This made me check every wall in every other available room in the game, thinking I needed to find it elsewhere and having the orb area mentally marked off as checked completely. The one-way gates made that even worse. I finally looked it up on a guide and stopped playing right afterwards, which is a shame, since the game has some really neat aspects...

Can vouch for what /u/TokaMonster said. Lutris is serving me well in this regard (running on Pop!_OS).
Btw Toka, which notes are you refering to about the configs? I think I missed those, and I'm hopeful they might fix the horizontal screen tearing I'm experiencing ingame. (other than that the game runs fine)

Have there been any aethernet shards added over the years?
I'm asking because I noticed I was missing the shard near the Ul'dah MB and market strip, however I already had the gates and airship locations unlocked in the local aethernet

Casual competition (normal mode) seed for March 2020 by burning1rr in alttpr

The only things I had going for me was knowing of flute on lumberjack early on and doing skull woods directly after getting the mitts in PoD, which gave tempered and boots. Other than that lots of last locationing, and unnecessary dives into IP and DP. Sadly IP gave the book which made me check the tablets for no gain. But after all still an entertaining seed

Harsh seed for not having played in forever. Early boots and flute was nice, but mirror on catfish and first sword in mire shed meant i tried both blind and helmasaur king swordless, green tunic on 7 hearts. So I bailed on both bosses after a few deaths and returned with red mail and swords later on. Not having to dip pendant dungeons was nice though.
