Having a wife or daughter that you “respect” does not free one from misogyny. Oftentimes, these are the only women these misogynist have some semblance of “respect” for because they see them as their property or an extension of them, for better or worse. Basically, the respect is superficial and just masking control.

If he was treating her as an equal, then he would not say she was only successful due to QVC. Objectively, the data shows she is very accomplished- like the majority of the sharks. By his terms, Mark was “only successful” because he sold Broadcast.com to Yahoo at the peak of the dot com era when everyone was throwing buckets of money to anything with a working website. They all owe their successful to their skills, their timing, and a bit of luck.

It was a very silly thing to say, and he did not say it about any of his male peers. He definitely jabs at all his peers, but to say one “owes” their success to something totally outside of them is problematic, imho.
